Van Life - Hood River and Hiking Tamanawas Falls
Day 27 on the Road - We found a great campsite at Tucker Park on the bank of Hood River and were able to share a big site with our friends, the @sprint2explore fam bam. It was $19/site and we paid like an extra $7 or $10 for the second vehicle.
After being in Portland for a few days, we were excited for a day on the trails and hiked the Tamanawas Falls trail (4 miles round trip) and it was gorgeous! Highly recommended. We went in the morning and beat the afternoon crowds. FYI, they did have parking fees but our National Parks pass worked, just put it in your window and you're good.

Tamanawas Falls Hike - Getting under the waterfall!
EPIC! There is nothing like standing under a 100 foot waterfall! The force of the falls almost knocked me over! Freezing cold is an understatement... After hiking to Tamanawas Falls I went over to White River for more hiking (impromptu decision because the road to Umbrella falls was closed) and that was well worth it. I have been to White River to snowshoe during the winter(link of snowshoe video below!) and it was completely different in early summer. The snow doesn't fully melt until early to mid July in this area, but as soon as it does beautiful wildflowers start blooming everywhere. I was lucky to be out there all alone. At one point I was surrounded by at least 50 fluttering butterflies and I legitimately thought I was dreaming. The entire day was a dream really.
Travel & Trail Tips:
The trailhead to Tamanawas Falls is on the east side of Mount Hood, about an hour and forty five minute drive from the Portland Area. You will need a Northwest Forest Pass. If you do not have one, you will be required to pay a $5 fee (WELL WORTH IT!).
The trail is not bad at all for an experienced hiker. Younger people & elderly people may have difficulties with the rocks near the top, but it is nothing to be overly concerned about. *Going behind the waterfall is dangerous and there is no actual trail... only do this if you are capable.*
Trekking poles would be useful on the trail but not necessary. I always have mine with me but did not end up using them on this hike.
White River snow park is free during the summer! Get out there and enjoy this area if you are looking for a less crowded trail. The wildflowers are just incredible. Here is the link to my snowshoe video from the winter!

Tamanawas Falls Trail Review
Rocky Hike to Beautiful Tamanawas Falls Oregon
Today, we're back with another hike. We're hiking Tamanawas Falls. Tamanawas Falls is a moderate difficulty trail on the eastern side of Mount Hood. Tamanawas Falls Trailhead has ample parking, but you should still arrive early. I suggest wearing high ankled shoes, but pants aren't absolutely necessary as I didn't see any poison ivy or oak. Tamanawas Falls itself is a stunning sight and the perfect blue-green pools shouldn't be missed all along the trail. Thanks so much for stopping by, friends!

Tamanawas Falls is the best hike in Mt Hood, Oregon - Adventure Guru
Tamanawas Falls is my favorite hike in the Mt. Hood area! It's an extra treat if you hike it during Autumn. The Fall foliage will blow your mind.
*Bring water shoes if you like to scramble up and around the rocks and river. You can access directly behind the falls with a 40-foot rock scramble.
ADA: This hike has roots and rock and is narrow in places. There are a few small sections with steep climbs as well. There is no bathroom on site.

Columbia River Gorge, Best Waterfalls in Country
After playing disc golf at Blue Lake Course I Started down the Columbia River Gorge to see all the waterfalls and lookouts that are along the way. Vista House was the first lookout I came to and it had great views, then i came to Latourell Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. The one waterfall that you have to see is Multnomah Falls, it is by far the best in the gorge in my opinion and that is why it was the busiest. After it I stopped at Horsetail Falls but after Multnomah Falls the rest all seem small and boring so I ended the day with a drive over Bridge of the Gods and found a campsite near Beacon Rock.

Tamanawas Falls
To take a trip into the wilds of the eastside of Mount Hood that is truly a highlight of the Mount Hood Loop, scoot off HWY 35 to visit Tamanawas Falls. This 100 ft waterfall is less known than its rivals in the Gorge, but is equally as breathtaking. Besides delighting in this beautiful waterfall, hikes in this area take you through lush vegetation and critical wildlife habitat.
The water that spills over Tamanawas Falls is from Cold Spring Creek; a clear, cold creek that is a tributary to the proposed Wild and Scenic East Fork Hood River. This area, which includes nearby scenic Polallie Creek, hosts winter and summer steelhead runs. In addition, these cold waters help keep the East Fork of the Hood River cool for the river's threatened Coho salmon.
While you're noticing the creek's ideal steelhead habitat, be sure to look up and notice the area's diverse vegetation. The Tamanawas Falls area has remnant old-growth Pondersa Pines along with a mix of Western Red Cedar and Douglas Fir trees. Don't miss Tamanawas Falls in the fall, as the area's Western Larch and Cottonwood trees turn brilliant shades of yellow that contrast nicely with the area's abundant evergreen trees. Elk enjoy the vegetation of this area, as they benefit from the old-growth forests that provide protection and a corridor to other wild areas of the forest.
The Dirt
Oregon Wild and other conservation groups are currently working to gain Wilderness protection for the Tamanawas Falls area as part of the Lewis and Clark Mount Hood Wilderness proposal. Wilderness protection would forever safeguard the land from logging, mining, and other development while preserving the public's right to enjoy backcountry recreation.
How to Get There
From Hood River
From HWY 84 take exit 64 to the junction of HWYs 30 and 35 (the China Gorge restaurant is a great landmark at this intersection). Take HWY 35 south. The turn off for Tamanawas Falls is on your right, about 1.5 miles south of Polallie Creek campground. If you reach the Sherwood campground you have gone too far.
Tumalo Falls - Bend Oregon
In this episode of Cheap Family Travel ( Nick, Regan, Maggie and Kate visited Tumalo Falls in the Cascade Mountains outside of Bend, Oregon. (We’re sorry if we mispronounced Tumalo in the video). The 89 foot high falls is one of the most popular outdoor destinations in the vicinity of Bend. You’ll find the falls at the end of a 2 1/2 mile gravel road in the Deschutes National Forest. You can get a great view of the falls right out of the parking lot, making it accessible to everyone. We totally recommend taking the short hike to the top of the falls. The view is fantastic and there are several viewpoints to stop at on your way up. If you look closely, you can find the narrow trail that leads through the forest and behind the falls. It’s crazy! Tumalo Creek merges with Bridge Creek as they head toward the Deschutes River, and the clear icy water is beautiful. The surrounding forest is still recovering from the Bridge Creek Fire in 1979, but the greenery, the wildflowers, and the forest create the perfect backdrop to the towering falls. The Tumalo Falls Day Use Area has picnic tables, restrooms, and is the trailhead to many hiking and biking trails. If you’re visiting Bend, Oregon, Tumalo Falls should definitely be on your list.
Tamanawas Falls Oregon Columbia River Gorge Van Life Road Trip Vlog
This is probably the most fun I have had making a van life road trip vlog since Campervan Kevin and I ended our Washington road trip. I think it was a great RV living meets van life journey. In this video I drive up the Oregon Columbia River Gorge to Tamanawas Falls to do some hiking.
