Tambopata River and Eco Lodge - The Amazon, Peru May 2017
What to expect staying in a rainforest lodge in Peru ????????
As part of our superb Peru tour with GAdventures, we visited the amazing Tambopata Eco Lodge for 2 nights, led by our friendly, well informed guide, Leo.
We stayed in a bungalow with no electricity and solar heated shower, which might sound a bit rustic but was actually lovely. Well equipped with a real bathroom, flushing toilet, real beds and mosquito nets, table, chairs and hammock!
The restaurant served excellent, fresh buffet food and in the bar you could buy an ice-cold beer in the evening while they ran the generators for a couple of hours until blackout. After this all you could see were fireflies!
We did a night wildlife walk on the first evening, taking strong advice to tuck trousers into socks to stop ants crawling into socks/shoes. Then the second morning we did an early morning explore, spotting wildlife all the way.
This was an awesome experience, really well prepared, really well guided, yet still felt like miles from civilisation!

Peru - Amazon: Macaws at theTambopata Research Center with Rainforest Expeditions
On October 21, 2012 I began the second leg of my Peruvian adventure by traveling with Rainforest Expeditions to the south of Peru and into the Amazon jungle to visit the Macaws and other wildlife at the Tambopata Research Center. This video is an image journal of the various plants and animals that I was fortunate enough to see. The photos in this video were taken by me, my traveling companions or are from other sources on the internet. This was an amazing adventure and I hope you enjoy the video.
We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open. -- Jawaharial

Tambopata River Jaguar, Amazonia, Peru
We were cruising back to the eco lodge in our 12m canoe when this Jaguar appeared on the river bank about 60m away.
Lake Sandoval, Tambopata National Reserve, Puerto Maldonado, Peru
Sandoval Lake, formed by the shifting waters of the Madre de Dios River is located in the heart of the Peruvian rainforest. Access to this tranquil haven is by boat before walking along a boardwalk through the forest, which delivers you close to the lakes edge. A final boat ride will paddle you across the lake which is rich with flora and fauna to feast your eyes.

Jaguar spotting at the Tambopata river basin in Peru
We were going upstream the Tambopata river in the Amazon river basin in Peru, when our guide Oscar spotted the largest South American predator basking in the sun. You know this beast deserves respect when even the boat captain shuts downs the boat and starts taking pictures. This is a rare opportunity for everyone and we were lucky to witness it

Peruvian Amazon Tambopata National Reserve | Puerto Maldonado, Peru | Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica
On day three of our stay at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica in the Peruvian Amazon, we cruised down the Madre de Dios river to the vast Tambopata National Reserve. More than 1,000 pristine square miles of nature, the preserve is a beautiful combination of Peru’s warm and wet habitats - wetlands, rainforest and oxbow lakes. The oxbow lakes - free-standing bodies of water - are created by the jungle slowly cutting off a portion of a greater river. The Amazon is in a perpetual cycle of consumption and creation. The forest is forever eating into its lakes as the river simultaneously expands by digesting evermore of the forest.
