Trip to Tamsui Old Street (淡水老街) and waterfront in Tamsui District (淡水區; formerly called Danshui District and also spelt Danshuei District and Tamshui Township) in New Taipei City, Taiwan (ROC).
Tamsui [1] (淡水, or Danshui, Danshuei, Tamshui) is a smaller city to the north of Taipei that was the center of shipping and commerce in northern Taiwan in the 19th century. The city is still popular with visitors from Taipei and boasts many historical attractions, and is a popular location for viewing the sunset.
Hongmao Castle (Fort San Domingo) (紅毛城, lit: Red Hair Castle) was constructed by the Dutch as 'Fort Anthonio' in 1641, and gained its present name in reference to the red-haired Dutch. The compound also served as the British Consulate in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It enjoys commanding views over the mouth of the Tamsui (Danshui) River. Address: 1, Lane 28 Zhongzheng Road, Danshui. MRT to Danshui Station (Danshui line), shuttle bus red 26 to castle. Tel:2623 1001.
Tamsui Old Street and waterfront (淡水老街): Located along the Tamsui (Danshui) River, this pedestrian shopping area offers tourists a wide selection of restaurants, arcades, and stores specializing in traditional handicrafts. Visitors can sample Tamsui's local specialties: A-Gei (crystal noodles stuffed in fried bean curd, served with a mild hot sauce), fish ball soup, and iron eggs (eggs which have been stewed in a mix of herbs and spices until pickled). The area is located right outside the north side of the MRT Danshui Station and stretches north to the ferry docks. Do try the food vendors which are located up and down the strip.
The Tamsui Ferry Pier is located near the north end of the waterfront area and offers ferry rides across the river to Bali Township, as well as to Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf further north. Tickets run around NT$50 to Bali, and NT$100 to Fisherman's Wharf. When taking the ferry don't stand outside unless you enjoy getting wet! Closed in the event of bad weather.
Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf (淡水漁人碼頭) is located further downstream from the town itself and offers a boardwalk, chic coffee shops and food stalls, and some seafood restaurants with prices that the average local would consider outrageous (but may seem reasonable to visitors from Western countries). Fisherman's Wharf is also a departure point for tourist boats traveling along Taiwan's scenic northeast coast. The Lover's Bridge, a single slanted tower cable stay pedestrian bridge, that is modeled after a sailing ship's mast and rigging, spans the harbor. The bridge is illuminated by different-colored lights at night, making this area a favorite with local couples and romantics, and a popular site for shooting Taiwanese serial dramas. Outdoor concerts are sometimes held in the amphitheater, and some of the restaurants feature occasional live music.

從淡水捷運站走出來右轉，中正路及延伸的重建街、清水街一帶，就是鼎鼎大名的淡水老街。街道兩旁林立著熱鬧的商店，有的帶有濃濃古早味，如米行、餅舖、布店、雜貨店等，有的販賣潮流服飾、玩具，形成古今交融的特殊商圈文化。老街裡可以尋寶，可以品嚐美食，還有古蹟可參觀，怎麼玩都不會膩，是遊人必去的超人氣景點。淡水老街包含重建街、中正路與清水街。淡水的發展由福佑宮一帶開始，重建街因地利之便，向南可通往福佑宮前的淡 .

One of the most famous locations in Taiwan, the Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf is well known for its beautiful sunsets, seafood, and, more recently with young people, its high amount of party boats. Within the past few years, the wharf has gone through a major renovation process, building several new buildings including restaurants, hotels, shops, and the Lover Bridge of Tamsui, completed in 2003. At night, the bridge illuminates with a wide variety of colours. Since the wharf is located a bit outside of Taipei City, some visitors choose to stay overnight nearby the wharf. The wharf is located in Tamsui (淡水, Danshui) north of the Tamsui Old Street (淡水老街) area nearby Shalun Beach (沙崙).

On our last day in Taipei, we explore Danshui river and the nearby fisherman's wharf at Tamshui.

On the coast north of Taipei, tourists and locals come to Danshui to enjoy great views of the sunset and enjoy the atmosphere. The music you hear in this video is a live performance from an outdoor restaurant. Sorry about the wind noise. I wish I could edit it out, or lessen it. But you can see from people's hair, especially women, that it was windy atop the bridge.
TAMSUI OLD STREET//BALI TAIWAN TOUR//HOW TO GET THERE! (淡水, or Danshui, Danshuei,)
(淡水, or Danshui, Danshuei, Tamshui) Tamsui Old Street is a street in Tamsui District, New Taipei, Taiwan. The street is accessible within walking distance north west from Tamsui Station, Taipei Metro. You can use the MRT Red Line to reach Tamsui. It would take approximately 30 - 40 minutes ride from the Taipei Main Station.
Upon arriving, exit the station and turn right. You can also follow the crowd as most of the people will be heading towards Tamsui Old Street.
This is a place that a lot of people come to spend eating(feast of food again)walking and cycling around
A good place to enjoy the sea breeze and ocean views especially when there are clear skies for sunset.
We also enjoyed the amazing performance of the performers.
We had a great fun experience during our trip in Tamsui.
