Japan, Part Three — Hachinohe City
Japan is my favorite place on the planet and I recently got to spend a week there as a guest of the Japan National Tourism Organization, and here's what happened. This is our third leg, a visit to the city of Hachinohe. It was a quick visit, but we managed to visit a 242-year old sake brewery, an island where 40,000 black-tailed seagulls breed, and a restaurant to learn about the city's annual Bouillabaisse Festa. I posted some photos and my story over at check it out to learn more!

Umineko (tanesashi Beach trails)
I ran the Umineko Half Marathon course in Hachinohe Japan today. Due to traffics I hit the beach and trails at the halfway point coming back. Beautiful views. My GoPro died so this is all IPhone, hence the shaky video.

Hachinohe Gokko - Hamaneko ( Play living in Hachinohe Hamaneko )
This visual production is a project of Hachinohe Portal Museum “hacchi”, a cultural facility located in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture.
The animation, set in the coastal area of Hachinohe, was created by Asako Ohshima, who has also worked for programs such as NHK [Minna-no-uta].
The story depicts the landscape and life in Hachinohe, from the eyes of a girl called Hamaneko, who came from the planet Nekoryoshka, and Kabu, a black tail gull, employing animations created from textiles.
Production partners include individuals who are close to Hachinohe, such as musician, Satoru Sakamoto, and [Bistrot Pot d’Etain] chef , Yuki Miura. Voices were performed by local Hachinohe residents. It is a unique [local district-oriented animation] that can only be created in Hachinohe. Please enjoy.

磐座には、たしかに何かがありますね。自然への畏敬の念は、いたるところで感じますが、磐座は別です。
人を寄せ付けない威厳。神々しいまでの威厳。が、それでいて人を包み込んでしまうような包容力。ときにその中に、吸い込まれてしまうような包容力さえ覚えます。私たちは威厳と包容力、それを前にして、しばし立ち止まります。立ち止まって、思わず手を合わせてしまいます。
八戸にお住いの、上野直輝？とおよびするのですしょうか。八戸にある種差海岸についての報告が届いていますので、みなさんにそのままお届けします。磐座というと、山岳地帯を重ね合わせますが、海岸や、海沿いにあってもおかしくありません。上野さんは、何かの遺跡が破壊された跡ではないかと考えておられます。つまりそのように上野さんが感じられたというところが重要なのです。
上野さんが撮られた写真をそのまま紹介させていただきます。上野さんの、この磐座、磐座といっても、さしつかえないと思いますが、それの磐座への熱い思いを、みなさんとともに共有したいと願っています。
