The revival of old Tangier, the pearl of Morocco
In the North of Morocco, residents of the city of Tangier have mobilized to give new life to abandoned streets of their mythical city.
Murals, colorful facades, flowery streets ... The idea came to the inhabitants, without the intervention of political parties or associations, said al-Rafih KANFAOUI, 33, from the neighborhood Ibn Battuta.
Gradually, the district has taken a pace that nobody would have imagined, he says proudly.
Standing on the heights of the city, the old districts of Tan…

Gibraltar and Morocco Business Association to open office in Tangier
The Government has welcomed a proposal from the Gibraltar and Morocco Business Association for the opening of an office in Tangier. It follows a meeting between the Deputy Chief Minister and the Association.
The office in Tangier would be run privately by the Gibraltar and Morocco Business Association and seek to develop trade and commercial links between Gibraltar and Morocco.
The Association says it is also important to develop air and sea links between the two communities which could see far greater collaboration in education, sporting and cultural events as well as boost tourism.
Ros Astengo spoke to Vice President of GibMBA and President of the Gibraltar Strait Association, Brahim Krikaz, about the scope of opportunities available, particularly with Brexit on the horizon.
Lunch in Tangier - Morocco
Since Tangier is just a 30 minute ferry ride across the Strait of Gibraltar from Spain, we decided to stop over to Africa for lunch.
The cafe we visited is the Cap Spartel Cafe in Tangier, Morocco.

Woman saves stray animals and educates locals
(28 Jul 2017) LEADIN:
An animal sanctuary near Tangiers is helping injured and abandoned animals, as well as educating locals about animal welfare.
The sanctuary is the brainchild of one woman, who is fulfilling her childhood dream.
STORYLINE:
Salima Kadaoui loves animals.
She works tirelessly to help injured and abandoned animals in the village of Azzinate near Tangiers.
Salima says her passion for animals is not new.
When I was little, I saw many stray animals in bad situations, and nobody helped them. They said that there was nothing they could do for them, she says.
But she disagreed and has gone on to open her own animal sanctuary.
Every day Salima tours the village of Azzinate and the surrounding local area to help the villagers and check on their animals.
She helps out sick and injured animals and takes in abandoned ones.
She also teaches locals how to look after the animals in their care.
Everyone is proud of sanctuary, including local resident Ahmed.
We thank her very much for what she does for our animals, he says.
Salima, who was born in Morocco then brought up in London, returned to live near Tangiers in 2012.
She started up 'The Tangier Wildlife Sanctuary' in 2013 - 400 animals now live there.
She says she looks after the animals as if they were her children.
This association has been created not only to collect animals and to give them sanctuary, as people say. But essentially we do not consider animals just as animals, no, they must be considered even as humans, she says.
Salima shares her life with 245 dogs, 130 cats, 22 donkeys, two mules, along with wild animals such birds, goats and a monkey.
Injured or disabled animals are helped to walk again using small modified carts.
For Salima educating the community is the most important thing because, she says, many cases of animal cruelty are due to ignorance.
The sanctuary teaches animal owners how to provide the right care for the animals, including the provision of food, water, shelter in a clean environment.
They also provide guidelines on how to treat working animal such as donkeys.
The sanctuary has emergencies almost every day - from a new litter of puppies dumped on the side of the road to donkeys being hurt by dogs.
Salima says the sanctuary always tries to help.
When these animals suffer from any disease or any problem, I visit the veterinarian in my car which I call the 'Tangier Animal Ambulance'. However, the association always has medicines for first aid emergencies.
There are many stray animals on the streets of Tangier, according to Salima.
She says while she loves animals, the only way of effectively managing the population is through birth control.
The most essential thing that must be done for animals in Morocco is the sterilisation. Why? Because already there are too many, and most of them die of hunger, thirst, in accidents and at the hands of people. So the best thing is that they should not be born.
She says such a measure will control the animal populations as well as help control diseases such as rabies and Lyme disease.
The sanctuary is currently in jeopardy because of financial problems relating to food and vaccination expenses.
Far from giving up, however, Salima says each animal deserves a chance and she will continue to provide it.
