Tangier, Morocco: Europe Meets Africa
More info about travel to Morocco: Most visitors to Tangier take a tour, daytripping in from Spain for a predictable series of experiences. But wandering through this delightfully disorienting town, at your own pace, is more fun. And to enjoy it with maximum understanding, you can hire a local guide.

Morocco Day Trip from Málaga to Tangier, Part One | Tangier, Morocco
On a whim, we booked a day trip to nearby Morocco from our base in Málaga. We took a bus to the Spanish port city of Tarifa and then a ferry over into Moroccan territory. We chose a guided tour because we were both a little dubious about travelling to Africa-- it was the first African country for both of us!
In this video we have lunch -- our first taste of Moroccan food -- take a walk through a souk, and learn about just how multicultural Morocco is.
The tour was a bit of a mixed bag. It was a very long, exhausting day with too many pushy vendors and a very structured itinerary, but there were highlights like the Moroccan lunch, the multilingual tour guides, and a few more things coming in Part 2. In the end, we're glad we did it because we don't think Tangier is a city we'd want to explore on our own. It's not usually our travel style, but in this case we were very happy to have the whole trip planned out for us.
We'd recommend you watch this video and the next to get an idea of how the day trip panned out. If you're still interested after that, this is the specific tour that we went on:

Welcome to Tangier, Morocco! We started off our trip visiting the square of the ninth of April, one of the biggest squares in the city. We explored the old medina before stopping to shop for a jalaba and the traditional Moroccan sandals.
Next up we headed to Tangier beach to ride a camel. It cost about 5 euro per person for a 30 minute ride along the beach. If you don't make it down to the Sahara you should definitely try to ride a camel in Tangier.
There is two restaurants I recommend when in Tangier, Riad Tanja and the El Morocco Club. Riad Tanja, has live music every night and serves some delicious moroccan tangines. El Morocco Club serves more of a gourmet fusion Moroccan cuisine mixed with a few other cuisines.
This is Dar Nour Guest House, one of the few properties located in the Kasbah. It's a boutique bed and breakfast, they have 10 rooms and they have 3 terraces on the roof top with a 360 degree view of Tangier.

A Walk Around Tangiers, Morocco
Tangier (/tænˈdʒɪər/; Arabic: طنجة Ṭanjah; Berber: Ṭanja; old Berber name: Tingi, ⵜⵉⵏⴳⵉ; adapted to Roman: Tingis; other English name: Tangiers) is a major city in northwestern Morocco. It is located on the Maghreb coast at the western entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar, where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean off Cape Spartel. It is the capital of the Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, as well as the Tangier-Assilah prefecture of Morocco.
The history of Tangier is very rich, due to the historical presence of many civilisations and cultures starting from before the 5th century BC. Between the period of being a strategic Berber town and then a Phoenician trading centre to the independence era around the 1950s, Tangier was a nexus for many cultures. In 1923, it was considered as having international status by foreign colonial powers, and became a destination for many European and American diplomats, spies, writers and businessmen.
The city is currently undergoing rapid development and modernisation. Projects include new tourism projects along the bay, a modern business district called Tangier City Center, a new airport terminal and a new football stadium. Tangier's economy is also set to benefit greatly from the new Tanger-Med port.

HOLIDAY IN TANGIER MOROCCO
DAY TRIP to TANGIER MOROCCO from SPAIN (people are so friendly!) | Tangier (Seville) Travel Vlog #3
A day trip to Tangier, Morocco from Spain is definitely a super fun, interesting and memorable way to spend a day on your trip to Southern Spain. Tangier is a fascination, old but at the same times modern city in Northern Morocco that has an interesting atmosphere and culture with many beautiful streets, markets and sights to explore and walk around. I absolutely love Morocco and the Moroccan people and it is probably one of my favourite travel destinations!
I used to travel to Morocco a lot as a child and I still to this day know many Moroccan people and eat Moroccan food very often. However, I hadn't been to Morocco in a very long time, so during this trip, I wanted to remember Morocco in a way and during this day I definitely felt a very warm welcome and thought I'm back!.
Hope you enjoy this Tangier Travel vlog and that it gives you an idea of what to expect during one of these day trips to Morocco and what to expect from Tangier in general.

A DAY IN TANGIER, MOROCCO :: DON'T FALL FOR THESE TOURIST TRAPS
tourist traps in tangier, don't fall for these!! while we still had the best time possible a 300 dirham dinner where we didnt even get to choose what we ordered was not really part of the plan + an extra 100 dirham for the 'tour guide' that really gave us no choice. while the food was good -- I still wish we would've stuck to our original idea of eating at rib kebdani although the line was out the door!

Things To Do In Tangier!
Full Tangier Morocco blog:
We just landed in Tangier, Morocco! Tangier is said to be the gateway city between Europe and Africa. In this vlog we explore some of the fun things to do in Tangier. First off, the call to prayer, interesting fact.... this prayer call is played 7x a day!
Luckily, we had a really cool local show us around. He took us to the Tangier medina, which is the old part of the city. The Tangier medina (and all medinas in Morocco) are known for their very narrow streets, but sometimes you'll see scooters flying by as well as donkeys and carriages. After finding our way through a maze of streets in the Tangier medina, he took us to the souk or market. You can find all kinds of stuff in the souk, and they welcome a good bargain for their products. Next was the Nahon Synagogue, one of the oldest Jewish worship centers in the city.
Moroccan food:
We got a chance to eat all kinds of traditional Moroccan food like chicken tagine, but we also ate at local seafood restaurants where we had this chicken and olive dish, fried calamari, dates, and the best seafood I've ever had at Le Saveur du Poisson. The owner, who calls himself Popeye, gave us an assortment of dishes. You don't even order from a menu, you just sit down and they start bringing you food. It was excellent!
No trip to Tangier is complete without a camel ride! I was very curious what the Tangier beaches looked like in Morocco, and to my surprise, they reminded me of back home in California. All I saw were palm trees, and beautiful long stretches of sandy beach on the Atlantic coast. I literally only saw one other person on the beach with us. We rode the camels on Achakar beach. After riding the camels we went to the cave of hercules which was... meh. I'd heard that the cave of hercules was a must see attraction but to be honest, it wasn't that exciting.
So... my top things to do in Tangier definitely include Moroccan local food, you must eat at Popeyes, and go on a camel ride! I would also have to highly recommend a day trip to the blue city of Chefchaouen. You can find that vlog here:
Tangier Morocco is an easy trip by boat from the Strait of Gibraltar, or is very accessible through most European countries by plane.
