Pangong Tso aka Pangong Lake, Spangmik, Ladakh, India (2016) - 1 of 2
This is the general route to Pangong Tso that most people take to visit this ever beautiful lake in Ladakh. You can reach in about 5 – 6hrs depending upon the number of break you take in between. The route along with distance between the subsequent places is as follows:
Leh – Karu (36km) – Sakti (10km) – Chang La (34km) – Durbuk (32km) – Tangste (9km) – Lukung (34km) – Spangmik (16km) = 171km
You can cover Thicksey, Hemis and Shey Monasteries while going through this route. This route provides the best road conditions among all other routes. So, if you are one of those who prefer relaxing vacation and do not want to rush through places then, I will suggest make a two day trip to Pangong Tso Lake via this route from Leh. Of course, I assume your body has been acclimatized properly by staying for couple of nights in Leh and spending a night or two in Nubra Valley before attempting to sleep near Pangong Tso. If you are short on time then you should make a day trip to Pangong Tso via this route only, being best in road conditions, so fastest among all.
This slat water, beautiful ocean like lake is about 5km wide at its broadest point and about 134km long with about 60% of the length extending into Tibet. During winters the lake freezes completely, which itself is a great experience to witness if you have seen the other colours of the lake. Pangong Tso Lake is one of the high altitudes lakes of India at a staggering altitude of 4350m or 14270ft.
Man is located about 10km from Pangong and Merak further 10km from Man. The road to these tiny villages run parallel to the lake all along the bank which is one of the most scenic in the world.

Hunder to Khalsar Drive - Nubra Valley, Ladakh
Tourists traveling from Nubra Valley to Pangong Tso can go direct without returning to Leh. The journey begins from Hunder village-the first break could be at Diskit for visiting seven storied Diskit Monastery. However we bypassed it to reach Milkha Point Khalsar in 45 minutes. The topography is plane land with adequate sand masses on ether side of road.
Solo Tsaga La - Tangtse on an Enfield
Here’s posting my first video log from the not so new SJ4000. Video was shot around 1400 hrs on 30th Oct.14. Please ignore shakes since the temp was constantly dipping (-1.8 at the time of this video) and in order to save time I mounted SJCam on my wrist. This was almost 3 hrs ride from the Tara Post while returning from Hanle via Chusul to Tangtse. The tracks are mixed of dry river bed, sleet and mud with just no sign of civilization, the establishments are either locked or left open and vacant by locals who moved to lower altitudes. Riding solo without any network or gps signals and completely relying on paper maps. Not just kiangs even the clouds r moving faster while I move slowly following the tyre tracks and making decisions to the best f abilities to save petrol since I didn't cross a live fuel bunk in past 400 kms.
