Tanuf:
Tanuf is a seaside resort in the Sultanate of Oman at the foot of Jebel Akhdar between Al Hamra and Nizwa, in the north of the Ad-Dākhilīyah region. It consists of the former partially ruined village, popular with tourists, and a more modern part linked to the presence of a bottling plant of mineral water. The irrigation system known as falaj is widespread in the Sultanate of Oman. That of Tanuf is quite particular, insofar as it is built against the cliff and raised to a height of up to 10 m1. With a length of 200 m, the falaj has retained for the most part its original route, designed more than 300 years ago. It is always used. The mosque is also preserved. During the revolt of the late 1950s, the rebels had taken refuge in the Jebel Akhdar, many of whom came from, which gave them an excellent knowledge of the terrain, particularly difficult to access. Sultan Said ibn Taimur, the father of the present Sultan Qabus ibn Said, solicited British military assistance, but their joint efforts failed at first. After further incidents, two squadrons of SAS Special Forces were called upon. It was in the context of these operations that the village was bombed on July 27, 1957 by De Havilland Venom planes of the Royal Air Force, in the absence of its inhabitants, warned.
Destroyed Tanuf, Oman
Tanuf village, in Oman, is one of the villages that the RAF had brutally bombed to break the resitance against the Sultan of Muscat during the Jabal Akhdar war.
Only ruins are left.

Oman - Middle East's best kept secret, part 1: Day trip to Nizwa & Tanuf
As a first trip to the Middle East we chose The Sultanate of Oman and the area around the capital of Muscat. It was a trip with interesting impressions and a totally different landscape than we have ever seen before.
Do you want to travel to Oman? This is a short sneak peak of what you can expect, and we recommend a rental car so you can drive around and explore on your own in this beautiful country.
We decided to drive southwest of Muscat and drove to the town Nizwa, enjoyed its quiet and calm souqs as well as the old Nizwa fort. On the way back to Muscat we made a stop by Tanuf ruins. This town was bombed by the British during the Jebel Akhdar war in the 1950s and still stands as a spooky (but not totally deserted) reminder of the past.

Birkat Al-Mawz:
Birkat Al-Mawz is a village in the Ad Dakhiliyah Region of Oman. It is located at the entrance of Wadi al-Muaydin on the southern rim of Jebel Akhdar and home to a restored fort called Bait al Redidah. A road and a walking route through Wadi al-Muaydin up to the Saiq Plateau start from here.
The name Birkat al Mouz literally means “a pool of bananas”. There is now a new town nearby, and the whole area is peppered with a planation of verdant green date trees, while the Jebel Akhdar mountain range presides over the area with an air of authority. The village is nestled at the base of the mountain. The houses are made of mud, and some of them are starting to crumble. It certainly gives me plenty of opportunities to get some nice shots. One of the houses still has an active falaj (water channel) running through it while in another, we came across a pair of men’s shoes and noted the chipped painted remnants of traditional Omani décor. In the old mosque, the roof has fallen in and the beams are forlornly strewn on what remains of the floor. The door still bears its brass knob, though.A few birds can be seen teetering on some of the walls but they are the only living things you will find here, apart from insects.

Misfah:
Misfat Al Abriyeen has become attractive destination for tourists touring Oman due to the agricultural terraces, beautiful wadi, hiking options and old houses.
As Oman Tourism describes it: The homes of its inhabitants are at the top of the mountain and their farms are on the slope.
The village rises around 1000 meters above sea level and is named after the original inhabitants, the Al Abri family.
In the mountains above Nizwa, Misfah is an old village and its uniqueness is best appreciated from a distance, because its only from the opposite side of the valley where you can see just how precariously the village is balanced on the edge of a sheer slope. A riot of palm trees burst up the canyon side, and sprouting from them, hanging over the valley side is a still-inhabited village of narrow houses piled one on top of the other. After taking your photos and drawing your breath, you can drive round to the village and take a walk between the mud brick buildings, catching glimpses of brightly dressed children running down narrow streets whilst their parents glide by like ghosts in the pale dishdashas (traditional ankle-length garment for men) and abayas (black over-garment for women) every adult wears.
Wadi Taab, Oman advanture, Dec 2018
An extreme canyoning trip on the Salmeh Plateau, with multiple drops of 50m followed by another few smaller abseils between 10 and 30m along the way. This trip took us about 8 hours from start to end.
