Taq e Bostan, Kermanshah, Iran
I visited Taq-e Bostan in Kermanshah, Iran in November 2019 as a part of my retirement project to photograph a day in the life of the Silk Road. This complex consists of a series of properties from prehistoric to historical periods such as Morad-Hassel Tepe, an ancient village, a Parthian graveyard, and Sassanid hunting ground. The most significant property of the complex belongs to the Sassanid one which comprises of two porticos (large and small Ivans) as well as outstanding bas-reliefs from the same period. Περσία : Σούσα, Κερμανσάχ - Iran: Sousa - Kermanshah
Photos and full video Iran, Turkey - giannispsaroudakis.comΤα Σούσα ήταν η διοικητική πρωτεύουσα των Αχαιμενιδών Περσών από το 675 μέχρι το 330 π.χ.

Tagh Bostan طاق بستان means 'Arch made by stone' is a site with a series of large rock reliefs from the era of Sassanid Empire شاهنشاهي ساسانيان of Iran, the Iranian dynasty which ruled western Asia from 226 to 650 AD. This example of Sassanid art is located 5 km from the city center of Kermanshah.
It is located in the heart of the Zagros mountains كوههاي زاگرس, where it has endured almost 1,700 years of wind and rain. Originally, several sources were visible next to and below the reliefs and arches, some of which are now covered. Sources next to the reliefs still feed a large basin in front of the rock.
The site has been turned into an archaeological park and a series of late Sasanian and Islamic column capitals have been brought together (some found at Taq owsa , Taq owsan (the old arch) , or Taq wa san, others at Bisitun and Kermanshah).
The carvings, some of the finest and best-preserved examples of Persian sculpture under the Sassanids, include representations of the investitures of Ardashir II (379–383) and Shapur III (383–388). Like other Sassanid symbols, Taq owsa (the old arch) or Taq bostan, and its relief patterns accentuate power, religious tendencies, glory, honor, the vastness of the court, game and fighting spirit, festivity, joy, and rejoicing.
Sassanid kings شاهان ساساني chose a beautiful setting for their rock reliefs along an historic Silk Road caravan route waypoint and campground. The reliefs are adjacent a sacred springs that empty into a large reflecting pool at the base of a mountain cliff.
Taq owsa (the old arch) and its rock relief are one of the 30 surviving Sassanid relics of the Zagros mountains. According to Arthur Pope, the founder of Iranian art and archeology Institute in the USA, art was characteristic of the Iranian people and the gift which they endowed the world with.

Spinning at the Ancient Site Taq Bostan in Kermanshah, Iran
Taq-e Bostan (known also as Taq va san) is an archaeological site located in Kermanshah, a western province in Iran. This region is best-known for its numerous monuments dating to the Sassanian period. Taq-e Bostan is a site with a series of large rock reliefs, which includes a number of themes. It may be added that in recent years, a Late Sassanian stone-cutting workshop was discovered at the site, which suggests that the site served not only a propagandistic function (through its rock reliefs), but also a utilitarian one.
