The festival celebrates the happiness of farmers and villagers who have successfully paid their taxes; it is also an offering to the spirits in gratitude for a bountiful harvest and a prayer for a fruitful harvest during the forthcoming year.

I remember very clearly being taken to the festival by my mother when I was a small child. Things were different then. We didn't live in luxury like we do now. Packed lunch would consist of a sweet potato and not much else. It was that kind of era.

The festival will always be celebrated. We wouldn't think of giving it up because it's a harvest festival.

LEAD IN:
Tarama Island lies between Miyako and Ishigaki islands in Japan's Okinawa prefecture.
As with some of the other adjacent islands the people of Tarama speak Japanese, but are often more comfortable using their own indigenous language.
The islanders also have a culture and customs which are in some ways very different to those of the Japanese mainland.
One of the ways in which Tarama's unique culture is expressed is at an annual harvest festival known as Hachigatsu Odori.
STORY LINE :
Surrounded by the East China Sea, Tarama island covers an area of approximately 22 square kilometres and has a population of just over 1,200 people.
Sugar cane production is Tarama's main industry, but islanders also rear cattle and goats.
Surrounded by a reef, Tarama is also home to an abundance of marine life.
Odori means dance, and although the festival took place this year from 7th-9th September, Hachigatsu means August.
With the exception of the island's two villages, Nakasuji and Shiogawa, the rest of Tarama is virtually deserted for the duration of the festival.
Nearly all businesses close, fishing stops and only essential agricultural work takes place.
Otherwise everybody on the island congregates around one of the two stages located in the two villages.
Hiramina Mitsuo, deputy Mayor of the Tarama District, explains that the festival originated as a celebration after the completion of the payment of an annual tax.

In order to make truly “everyone” happy, including those who are used

innovation personalized to each and every individual.
The story takes place in Tarama Island, an area with one of the lowest
smartphone diffusion rates in Japan.
We updated Granny’s familiar old-fashioned tools, because she cannot
use smartphones.
Trek at Hiji Otaki (Hiji Falls), Kunigami, Okinawa Oct 16, 2015
Of the many hiking trails on Okinawa this is one of my favorites. The trailhead is about 2 km inland from National Route 58 along the island's western coast on the East China Sea. From there it's approximately 1.7 km along the forest paths, trails, stairs and bridges to get to the waterfall. The sound of the forest is amazing! At one point, maybe half-way of so along the trail we encountered a suspension bridge that was about 80 feet above the riverbed below. A very nice scene. Come on along - let's do this!

INS Sukanya and INS Sumedha anchored at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam
INS Sukanya is the lead vessel of the Sukanya class patrol vessels of the Indian Navy. In Hindu mythology, Sukanya was the daughter of Shryayati, son of Vaivasvata Manu and the wife of the great sage Chyavana. In 2006, INS Sukanya served as the Presidential yacht for the 2006 Naval Fleet Review.
INS Sumedha (P58) is the third Saryu class patrol vessel of the Indian Navy, designed and constructed indigenously by the Goa Shipyard Limited. It is designed to undertake fleet support operations, coastal and offshore patrolling, ocean surveillance and monitoring of sea lines of communications and offshore assets and escort duties. The Naval Offshore Patrol Vessel INS Sumedha was launched at Goa Shipyard on 21 May 2011, and was handed over to the Indian Navy on 11 March 2014.
