SH6 New Taramakau Bridge Project (By Drone), Greymouth, New Zealand
SH6 New Taramakau Bridge Project (By Drone), Greymouth, New Zealand
The new two-lane bridge will be built between Greymouth and the Kumara Junction, 30 metres downstream of the existing single-lane road and rail bridge.
The new bridge will be 250 metres long, 10 metres high and 15 metres wide. The project will see a section of State Highway 6 realigned and an overpass built to take road traffic over the railway line.
A 2.5 metre wide, off-road cycle and pedestrian facility that will link into an existing cycle track will also be built.
The existing bridge will remain in place and will be used solely as a rail bridge. The clip-on cycle and walking bridge will be installed at another yet to be determined site.
This is a Government Accelerated Regional Roading Project (external link). Fulton Hogan has been awarded the contract for the project. Work is expected to be complete by the end of 2018.

Taramakau Bridge Event
Events leading up and including the crossing of the Taramakau Road/Rail bridge on the West Coast of New Zealand soon to be rail only. Apologies for the shaky quality of the video, was a little unwell on the day
Karangahake Gorge Former Road Rail Bridge
This is the site of the former rail road bridge. This line used to be part of the former ECMT to Tauraunga. The line was made redundant by the building of the 8+ km Kaimai Tunnel
Shared one-way road / rail bridge!

Arahura road/rail bridge
Here is one from my achieves, taken on the 19th of June 2008. In the video we see a Dsc leading the Hokitika Train across the Arahua combined road rail bridge heading for Hokitika. This scene is now in the history books as the bridge has been replaced with two bridges, one each for road & rail. I also have no idea when a Dsc last went to Hokitika, as this milk season (2012) the trains have had Dx/Dc combo's on them.

The Coasters Club was there when the first sod was turned and its been fun keeping Coasters updated on progress.
“The new two-lane bridge will replace the existing single-lane road/rail bridge, providing a safer and more efficient transport link for West Coast locals and for tourists,” says Jim Harland, Southern Regional Director for the Transport Agency.
The new bridge will also incorporate a separate off-road, shared facility for pedestrians and cyclists.
Rail traffic will continue to use the existing bridge, and the realigned road will pass over the existing rail line on an overpass south of the river.
Its scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018.

AB 608 Centennial S.I Tour Day 12: Hokitika and Stillwater Trips 30/10/2015
On Friday 30 October 2015, Day 12 of the AB 608 Centennial South Island Rail Tour, AB 608 Passchendaele ran her Tour Train Numbered X017 along the Hokitika branchline from Greymouth to Hokitika and return and later in the day AB 608 Passchendaele ran another train trip to Stillwater and back to Greymouth. On the Greymouth to Hokitika trip I filmed AB 608 at Karoro/Wharemoa, Paroa, going over the Taramakau Road/Rail bridge, going through the roundabout at Kumara Junction, Chesterfield, Awatuna, Arahura, going across the Hou Hou creek bridge and finally arriving into Hokitika. At Hokitika I got a quick shot of the Hokitika clock tower and 2 shots of AB 608 running around and coupled to the tour train. From Hokitika to Greymouth I captured AB 608 departing Hokitika at the second crossing north of Hokitika township, going across the Arahura River bridge, going over Kapitea creek, going across the Taramakau Road/Rail bridge, going across the Saltwater creek rail bridge, speeding through Wharemoa and finally arriving into Greymouth Station. At Greymouth Station I got a few shots of the tour train sitting at the station before it made way for the Tranz Alpine which I then filmed arriving into Greymouth with DFB 7241 at the head of it, DFB 7241 arriving back at Greymouth station with the Tranz Alpine ready for the return journey back to Christchurch and I then captured DFB 7241 departing Greymouth with the Trainz Alpine (Train 804). After the Tranz Alpine had left, AB 608 brought her tour train back to Greymouth station ready for the short run to Stillwater. On the Stillwater trip I captured AB 608 Departing Greymouth station, passing the Brunner Mine, arriving at Stillwater, turning on the Triangle at Stillwater, going through Omoto and then arriving back at Greymouth Station. Finally, at the end of the day, AB 608 was topped up with water, as seen in some of the shots I got at the station and then she is seen making her way slowly towards Greymouth's Elmer lane yard, as she passes the industrial buildings along the road and the final shot of the day shows AB 608 entering the Greymouth Elmer lane yard.

732. combined road - rail bridge. 20171028 181122
Near Greymouth, South Island's West Coast, of New Zealand. This bridge has both way car traffic, plus trains. Fortunately trains are just two a day, and not too much road traffic. My cousin Paul from England and I, went on a one-day road trip to the West Coast and back.

And featuring one of the only road / rail combination bridges left in the world, definitely the only one in NZ.
