in continuation with our series of videos of Lansdowne, we take you toady to the tour of Tarkeshwar mahadev temple, this temple is about 40 Kms from Lansdowne and is located in a very secluded area, this temple is surrounded by very tall Deodar trees, it is a very peaceful place where many sage come to medidate and offer prayers.
This temple is named after a Demon named Tarkeshwar, who after receivng boon from Lordshiva, went on path of destruction and killing, he was killed Lord Kartikeya ,SOn of Lord shiva, at the time of death Tarkasur asked pardon for his sins to Lord shiva, Lord shiva then attached his name with this temple , so the name tarkeshwar mahadev. AN ashram and dharamshala is present in the temple premises and stay arrangement can be done if informed in advance to temle authorities.
We need to walk down for about 15-20 minutes to reach the temple, the pathway is good as the monsoon rains hasn't started yet, but during monsoon the it may be tough to walk,so plan the trip accordingly, due to thick plantations and trees the weather is cool and pleasant, so walking doesnt feel stress ful, lets continue our walk and enjoy the nature,
as mentioned on the board, this are is plastic free place, so it is advised not to carry any polythene bags and do not litter. so finally we have reached the temple, and as you can there are many bells placed in temple premises, these are offered by devoteees, as we are not allowed to take photograph inside the temple, we conclude our video here,

Sri Tarakeshwar Mahadev Mandir is located in Tarakeshwar Dham, Bichla Badalpur Patti of Rikhnikhal Block of District Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand, and is about 36 km from Lansdowne. It is believed that Goddess Parvati prayed in Tarakeshwar to get Lord Shiva. It is in the foot hills of the Himalyas. Bells are offered at the Tarakeshwar Mahadev Temple. The devotees especially those who stay away on fulfilment of a prayer or after pious occasions like marriages or the birth of a child come to Tarakeshwar and offer a bell at the temple. There is another story about Tarkeshwar mahadev Temple, according to folklore after killing the demon Tarakasoor, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati came to Tarakeshwar to take rest. Since the sun was shining on Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati transformed herself into seven Deodar trees to provide shade to Lord Shiva. These seven trees are situated in the Temple complex. All the other deodar trees have originated from these seven trees. The whole area is now therefore called Tarakeshwar.

Tarakeswar (pronounced Tarokeshshor) is a town and a municipality in Hooghly District in the Indian state of West Bengal. ताड़केश्वर महादेव मंदिर टिहरी गढ़वाल जिले के लैंसडाउन क्षेत्र में स्थित पवित्र धार्मिक स्थान है | ताड़केश्वर महादेव मंदिर भगवान् शिवजी को समर्पित है | यह मंदिर समुन्दरी तल से 2092 मीटर ऊँचाई पर स्थित है | ताड़केश्वर धाम मन्दिर 5 किमी. की चौड़ाई मे फैला हुआ है | यह मंदिर बलूत और देवदार के पेड से घिरा हुआ है जो कि प्रकति की सुंदरता के लिये बहुत ही अच्छा है । साथ ही यहाँ कई पानी के छोटे छोटे झरने बहते हैं । ताड़केश्वर महादेव मंदिर सिध्द पीठों में से एक है और इसे एक पवित्र स्थल माना जाता है । श्री ताड़केश्वर महादेव की पूजा एक वर्ष में चार बार होती है , जिसके अंतर्गत एवम् अधीन 76 गाँव आते है । गाँव में फसल होने पर सर्वप्रथम मन्दिर में भेंट चढ़ाई जाती है । इसके पश्चात ही गाँव वाले फसल को इस्तेमाल करते हैं । इस मंदिर के दर्शन करने के लिए हर साल हजारों श्रद्धालु आते हैं। यह मान्यता है कि इस मंदिर में माँगी गई हर मन्नत भगवान पूरी करते हैं । हर साल महाशिवरात्रि के दिन मन्दिर मे विशेष पूजा का आयोजन किया जाता है जो कि मंदिर समिति के द्वारा होता है | जनश्रुति के अनुसार यहां पर सरसों का तेल और कन्दार (शाल) के पत्तों वर्जित है | मंदिर परिसर में एक कुंड है माना जाता है कि यह कुंड ‘देवी लक्ष्मी’ के द्वारा खोदा गया था | इस कुंड के पवित्र जल का उपयोग शिवलिंग में होता है |

ताड़केश्वर महादेव मंदिर की पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार ताड़कासुर एक राक्षस था , जिसने भगवान शिव जी से अमरता का वरदान पाने के लिए इस स्थान पर ध्यान अर्थात तपस्या करी थी | भगवान शिव ताड़कासुर की विशाल भक्ति और पूजा को देखकर ताड़कासुर को अमरता का वरदान प्रदान कर देते है | समय बितने के साथ ताड़कासुर अमरता के वरदान से पृथ्वी मे गलत कार्य करने शुरू कर देता है और संतो को मारने लगा | पृथ्वी का शांतिपूर्ण वातावरण ताड़कासुर के द्वारा मुसीबत में देखते हुए संतो ने भगवान शिव से मदद मांगने का अनुरोध किया | ताड़कासुर से युद्ध करने के लिए भगवान शिव ने माँ पार्वती से विवाह करके कार्तिक को जन्म दिया | जैसे कार्तिक के हाथो ताड़केश्वर मारे ही गए थे तभी ताड़कासुर भगवान शिव से प्रार्थना करने लगे और क्षमा मांगता है | तब भगवान शिव उन्हें माफ़ करते हुए कहते है कि कलयुग में तुम्हे लोग भगवान् शिव के नाम से ही पूजेंगे एवम् ताड़कासुर की पूजा भगवान् शिव के नाम से ही होती है , इसलिए इस स्थान का नाम “ताड़केश्वर महादेव” पड़ा | इससे पहले ताड़केश्वर महादेव मंदिर में शिवलिंग मौजूद था लेकिन अब भगवान शिव की मूर्ति मौजूद है जिसकी पूजा होती है । भगवान शिव जी की मूर्ति उसी जगह हैं जहां पर शिवलिंग मौजूद था ।

ताड़केश्वर महादेव मंदिर की मान्यता के अनुसार यह भी कहा जाता है कि कहते हैं कि ताड़कासुर का वध करने के बाद भगवान शिव ने यहां विश्राम किया था | जब माता पार्वती ने देखा कि भगवान शिव को सूर्य की गर्मी लग रही है तो माता पार्वती ने स्वयं देवदार के वृक्षों का रूप धारण किया और भगवान शिव को छाया प्रदान की । ताड़केश्वर महादेव मंदिर के प्रांगण में आज भी वे सात ताड़ के पेड़ विराजमान हैं । रामायण में भी ताड़केश्वर का वर्णन एक पवित्र तीर्थ के रूप् में मिलता है। यहां बाबा ताड़केश्वर के पास लोग अपनी मुरादें लेकर आते हैं और भोलेनाथ अपने भक्तों को कभी निराश नही करते हैं । ऐसी मान्यता है कि जब किसी की मनोकामना पूरी होती है तो वे यहां मंदिर में घंटी चढ़ाते हैं। यहां 0014इस बात का प्रमाण हैं कि यहां बाबा की शरण में आने वाले मनीषियों का कल्याण होता है।
