First of sorry about the shaky camera work and terrible sound. This was filmed before i upgraded to gopro 7 and gimbal. The gimbal is now broke and i still need a microphone that handles wind on the gopro 7. I also badly need more hard drives ideally i need four 8gb hard drives but for now one will have to do. If i do not get these there maybe a big hold on future videos until i do unless i can get the funds together as i this is a hobby not a job. Touring Tasmania Part 4: Mt Field National Park & Cradle Mountain National Park
I recently took a trip with some of my family to Tasmania! We took the Spirit of Tasmania, across the Bass Strait, then road tripped around the island.
In this video we visited a few of the National Parks and did some good hiking. These few days were some of my favorites!

Tarn Shelf - a delightful series of small glacial lakes get their first frosting of snow for the year, whilst at the same time the fagus (or decidious beech) turn a fiery gold, red and orange, making for a spectacular scene.

Mt Field National Park, Tasmania
Mt Field National Park and Tasmania’s spectacular Tarn Shelf. Beyond Russell Falls, the prettiest falls in Australia and nearby Horseshoe Falls, walk through Pandani Grove and the world’s tallest heath. Discover sub-alpine plants found nowhere else on earth. Climb past snow ski huts to a grand panorama lookout over Lakes Seal and Platypus then enter a dramatic Jurassic Dolerite field containing ski runs and the exquisite Tarn Shelf. Boardwalk trails lead into the wild where bold reflections distract and ancient pines have survived hard times. Care for the delicate cushion plants and pineapple grass bogs. There is tragic evidence of wild fires and an historic wilderness ski hut on Twilight Tarn - first ski hut in Tasmania 1927. Follow the trails through geological upheaval, walk the Tarn Shelf on a Tasmania National Parks Tour with Nature Bound Australia.

Tarn Shelf & The Watcher
A must do if visiting Mt Field National Park in Tasmania, the Tarn Shelf is a superb walk which gives the walker an idea of the effects of glaciation, while walking past some delightful tarns. A visit up to The Watcher via Newdegate Pass is well worth it too.
This is exposed to the elements, be prepared!
As mentioned at the 0:37 mark, I said I'd post the Mt Field West link. Here it is:

MOUNT FIELD NATIONAL PARK
HOW beautiful is this place! Incredible how we did a rainforest walk to an astounding waterfall (Russell Falls) and then the next day drove 16k up a mountain and it was a completely different eco system. That is basically Tasmania in a nutshell; you can drive 5 hours from top to bottom and drive through 5 different climates.
I can’t believe I worked less than an hour away from here last year but never made the trip out to see it! Accomplishing all the things I wasn’t able to do last year, now!
I hope you enjoy this video, starring my friends Bass, Mollie & Lee

Mt Field East Circuit
This is a great walk to do in the Mt Field National Park to get an idea of the stunning scenery. While not as long as something like Mt Field West, it is still a worthwhile trip, plus it is an Abel. There are plenty of scenic sidetrips such as Seagers Lookout and Beatties Tarn which add to the walk.
Snowboarding in Tasmania - Mount Field (Mount Mawson) 2017
Mount Mawson ski field is a small field located in the Mount Field National Park in southern Tasmania. The park is 1 hour drive west of Hobart and the drive up to the alpine section of the park is a further 30 minutes. From the car park at Lake Dobson, it is a 30 minute walk up to the ski area.
Mount Mawson comprises of three surface tows. One is seldom operating as it needs a lot of snow (Rodway Tow).
In late winter 2017 there was in fact too much snow so the tow wasnt't going so we hiked out there (its 1km or so past the two main tows at the mountain) and hiked runs all day.
Top day out. Here's hoping for more successful trips to the snow.
Railtrack Riders
A must do for anyone passing through Maydena or Mt Field National Park. You get to exercise and travel on the historic Maydena logging rail line. If you are lucky you will see a Tasmanian Tiger.

Waterfalls & Wonderment | Mt Field National Park, Tasmania
Tasmania is renowned for it’s largely untouched landscapes and it’s countless national parks (nearly each one heritage listed). For those reasons alone, it’s only natural that a visit to the island state involves plenty of time exploring the outdoors!
On our way from Hobart to Lake St Claire, we took a little detour and stopped at Mt Field National Park. A little over an hour outside of the city, Mt Field is a rather incredible place.
