Mt Cook National Park is spectacular World Heritage Area. Of the 23 NZ Mountains over 3000 m, 19 are here including the highest – Aoraki/Mt Cook (3754m). One third of the park area is covered by permanent glacial ice and snow. We have checked out Tasman Glacier and took Hooker Valley Track, perhaps best of the area’s day walks. The track heads up the Hooker Valley and crosses three swing bridges and leads to Hooker Glacier. After the second swing bridge the Mt Cook dominate the valley and the view is truly spectacular!
Tasman Glacier viewing platform is just 15 minutes by foot from Blue Lakes Shelter and the view there is spectacular. Tasman is the largest of NZ glaciers, but shrinks around 800 metres a year! This is unbelievable ratio and global warming is the cause. Also glacier lost over 150 meters in depth over last hundred years. Tasman Lake just in front of Glacier is 4km long, but started to form only in early 1970s and it is expected that it will extend to 8km in next 20 years. The lake is covered by maze of huge icebergs and honestly we could spend over there whole day…

- it's less touristy here. The journey along the hike will bring you back to pre-historic era (untouched nature).
- to play with the glacier, make sure you follow trail to Tasman River on the right (not the Jetty = on the left)

ARROWTOWN, TASMAN GLACIER AND CLAY CLIFFS (EXPLORING NZ'S SOUTH ISLAND) /// THESTYLEJUNGLE VLOG #12
It was probably the most diverse day of our New Zealand road trip. We left Queenstown early in the morning to visit Arrowtown - a famous historical town nearby. Arrowtown is known for being one of the rare places in New Zealand, where you can still witness the real life of Chinese gold miners. After exploring local streets we drove further, all the way to Mount Cook and Tasman glacier. One of the three New Zealand glaciers is accessible by water, thus cheaper than the others, that require a helicopter flight. We absolutely enjoyed swimming next to giant icebergs and even tasting them! On our way back to Queenstown, we had some more time to explore Clay Cliffs - unusual formation near Omarama, created by a glacier, that was here many years ago. It is impressive at any time, but even more - during the sunset.

Tasman Glacier Explorers Tour (Aoraki/Mt Cook) in Winter - NZ Road Trip
An amazing encounter with New Zealand's largest glacier, the Tasman Glacier. Explore and learn about the ever-changing glacial landscape as our journey across the terminal lake in the custom-built MAC Boats with our experienced guides. Icebergs of every shape and size periodically tear away from the face of the glacier into the rapidly growing lake. Lateral moraines rear up almost 200m to remind us of the scale and greatness that the glacier has reached in previous times.
With the effects of global warming and other climatic processes taking their toll on New Zealand glaciers, their retreat is imminent. Now approximately 27km long and 600m deep, the Tasman Glacier is melting and calving at an exponentially increasing rate. In recent years the Tasman Glacier has changed from a 'melting' to a 'calving and melting' terminus, resulting in a terminal lake that is rapidly increasing in size.

On this evening the sunset was fairly uneventful for photography so I made the most of the calm conditions with my drone and was able to get some great shots of the icebergs.

The Tasman lake track is one of the tramping track that you can do Mt. Cook. It is a Proglacial lake from the Tasman glacier. It is such an amazing sight to behold. We went there at the start of spring season. There were icebergs at the end of the lake which was so surreal to look at. The colour of the lake was an unbelievable shade of ice blue. When we went there the weather was not very good as it was hailing quite hard, it could have been better if it was a sunny day but nevertheless the view was breathtaking.

Now let's imagine that you are able to access and explore the white ice of the Tasman Glacier where it runs beside the biggest mountains in New Zealand and where the glacier's forces work hard and often create spectacular ice formations. It's beyond gorgeous spot!
It took me two hours to complete the heli-hiking tour. Truthfully, the glaciers were real tough to walk on! I had my struggles with hiking cross several ices, yet it was one of my favorite adventures to do in New Zealand's south island!

A New Zealand Adventure (South Island) - Abel Tasman, Franz Josef Glacier, Queesntown, Kaikoura
In November 2019, my friend Susy and I did the roadtrip of a lifetime to New Zealand, and these videos give just a glimpse into the amazing 3 weeks we spent there.
The adventure continues on South Island, where, after leaving the ferry in Picton, we drove along the north coast to Abel Tasman (a national park with a coastal hike that takes several days). Sadly due to time limits we couldn't do all the hike, but despite that the first few kms were still beautiful and full of wildlife.
The next day we drove down the west coast to Franz Josef Glacier, stopping off along the way to see the totalyl unique Punakaiki pancake rocks).
After leaving Franz Josef, we were treated to spectacular views throughout Mount Aspiring National Park (chiefly Lake Wanaka), until we finally reached Queenstown. Due to weather conditions on our first day, our planned canyon swing was cancelled, but Susy still managed to get a bungee jump in despite the rain. The next day it was my turn to jump, and then the afternoon was spent white water rafting (sadly no footage of this either, as we weren't allowed cameras down the rapids, sorry again!).
After the few days at Queenstown, it was time for the 9 hour drive up the east coast to Kaikoura. Here we got to see all sorts of wildlife that calls this peninsula their home (I have to apologise in advance for the shaky footage whilst on the whale watching boat, i did my best whilst filming and editing to smooth it out, but there's only so much i can do!).
Our final stop of South Island was the Malborough sounds, from where the ferry leaves and takes us back to North Island for our final few days in New Zealand
