Le Langhe Piedmont | Piemonte 4k | Italy HD Drone Movie | Atellani
The stunning Langhe in the Piemonte (Piedmont) region in Italy.
Piedmont, a region of Italy bordering France and Switzerland, sits at the foot of the Alps. It’s known for sophisticated cuisine and wines such as Barolo and the Tartufo Bianco (White truffle). Turin, the capital, has abundant baroque architecture and the monumental landmark Mole Antonelliana, with its soaring spire. The Automobile Museum is devoted to Turin’s main industry. The Egyptian Museum displays archaeological and anthropological collections.
Le Langhe (The Langhe). Langa is from old dialect Mons Langa et Bassa Langa) is a hilly area to the south and east of the river Tanaro in the province of Cuneo in Piedmont, northern Italy.
It is famous for its wines, cheeses, and truffles—particularly the white truffles of Alba. The countryside as it was in the first half of the 20th century features prominently in the writings of Beppe Fenoglio and Cesare Pavese, who was born there, in Santo Stefano Belbo.
On 22 June 2014, Langhe were inscribed on UNESCO World Heritage list. They bear witness to an extremely comprehensive social, rural and urban realm, and to sustainable economic structures. They include a multitude of harmonious built elements that bear witness to its history and its professional practices.
Its vineyards constitute an outstanding example of man’s interaction with his natural environment. The wine growing landscape also expresses great aesthetic qualities, making it into an archetype of European vineyards. Feature in the video are three gorgeous villages:
SERRALUNGA D'ALBA with the amazing castle that overlooks the town and hits the visitor for his gothic architecture. It's front is made of bricks with little arches. Few windows, and only at the top. The way in was guarded by a wide ditch, a rolling shutter and a drawbridge. Inside you can see still some fireplaces, wood ceilings and a chapel with frescoes. Slender and majestic, the Castle of Serralunga d'Alba overshadows one of the most beautiful and historically intact villages of the Langhe, surrounded by the hills of Barolo vineyards. Considered to be one of the best-conserved examples of 14th century noble castles in Piedmont, this castle represents a unique piece of history in Italy with an architecutral structure of a French donjon.
The castle's construction was carried out between 1340 – the year in which the Falletti family received its estate as recompense for military involvement – and 1357. This information is gleaned from documents that register a sale carried out in one of the castle rooms.
The fact that it was never the object of military importance nor was it structurally transformed over the centuries have kept this castle unaltered. Its Medieval fortress is, in fact, the original structure.
Instead of military use, this castle was used throughout the centuries as a point of control over the production activities in the territory, as evidenced by its imposing, vertical stance that was intended to emphasize the prestige of the Falletti family.
BOSSOLASCO is one of the main touristic centers of the Langhe. Set in a wonderful panoramic place, it’s the official site of the Mountain Community.
The historical center of the town has been decorated with thousands of roses, and in summer all balconies are enriched with flowers. Bossolasco is also known as the “Il PAESE DELLE ROSE” (Village of the roses)
The Balestrino castle, on the road to Murazzano, was built in 1600, while the parish church is a 14-century Gothic stone building.
The patronal fair takes place in June, on saint John the Baptist’s day.
PERLETTO is characterized by a tall medieval square tower, a trace of the ancient castle. The chapel of sant’Antonio (1100) is built in an austere Romanic style.
On the first Sunday in September the patronal fair is held; during the fair it’s possible to taste wonderful wines (Dolcetto and Moscato above all).

Nada's Italy Small Group Tours | Italy Tour Director Spotlight - Marco Scaglione
When Marco and Nada met in 2012, there was an instant connection - they realized they had more things in common that they could have ever imagined, and their style of leading groups around Italy was almost identical. Marco has been working as a Tour Leader for some of the most important North American Tour Operators since 2007.
He likes to focus his adventures around culinary experiences, tastings, cooking demonstrations, meeting local people who prepare local food. He says: “I always say that Italy is like an open book where signs left by ancient civilizations are surrounding each traveler. It is just a matter to be able to read those signs.”
Marco is a super-fun, educated, always professional individual who can be considered a true perfectionist. His attention to detail is unrivaled, but he also knows when to loosen up, get silly with the group, and sing tunes from famous American musicals! Marco always makes sure everyone in the group is having a great time and his caring approach has made him an important Nada’s Italy team member. Marco is from Alba, in the Piedmont region, an area famous for the highly esteemed white truffle, amazing wines like Barolo, and chocolate.

Fabrizio Iuli - Winemaker Stories
Fabrizio Iuli, Vignaiolo in Monferrato
Winemaker in Monferrato, Piedmont
This is not Barolo
Making wine in Barolo, it's simple
But not because it is called Barolo
It is easy because with 4 acres of vineards
you can go to the bank and they'll give you a 2 million dollar loan
And here even with 80 acres they won't give you more than $100k
With money, you have more options. Here it takes an entire life to do experiments
With money it's easy
What I tried to do with the Nebbiolo
even the one we tasted yesterday at dinner
I think Nebbiolo is a great grape variety
But sometimes certain Barolos and Barbarescos...
... incidentally my wine is aged for 28 months in large barrels...
this is a wine meant to stay a long time in the aging process
to make them more delicate
sometimes you open a bottle of Barolo and getting to the end of it is a 'job'
Here we have white soil
so the wines are more linear and straight
Acidity, aromas and a salty finish
Cement vats
These two hold 12k and 13k liters
Because cement maintains stable temperatures
if you put the same wine in cement and stainless steel, the one in cement tastes better
maybe because it breaths more, I don't know why
Because... It's better, that's it
Period.
It is more difficult to clean
but there's no temperature leap
As I go along and rack the barbera Umberta I'll put it here
one vat after the other
So all the wine will be here. I take a sample to check the malolactic fermentation
Then you clean it and it's done
I prefer to harvest a bit earlier
Grapes are like apples
when you eat an apple that is too ripe, it's not good anymore
the crunchiness
I prefer to harvest a couple of days on the earlier side, than later
I rack now, before I check that it went through malolactic fermentation
I add a gram of sulpher and it's done.
No batonage or anything else
I just leave it there
Acidity and Barbera
Acidity in Barbera is indispensable because...
Barbera is a wine for food
It's a wine that cleans your palate
You eat, you drink a glass of wine, you eat again and then another glass of wine
This is a Barbera called 'Barabba'
The acidity is really important
I never do a chemical analysis on the wine
When I think it's time to harvest, I harvest
Lot's of people are scared to having wines with 12-13 grams in acidity
But it's a Barbera, already after the fermentation you'll loose 2-3 grams
It also depends on how much malic acid that you have that will become lactic
But when you have 13.5-14 degrees in alcohol
having between 6.5 to 8 in acidity is perfectly normal
