Taste of Okinawa Cooking Experience
This is a 3-hour cooking class including a food market tour where you can cook like a local while learning the secrets of Okinawa’s food culture that contribute to longevity.
On the food market tour at the Naha Public Market located nearby, you will learn about locally grown products and select ingredients used in the cooking class.
Upon returning to our studio, you will prepare a three- or four-course menu consisting of a classic appetizer, main dish, soup, and dessert. The class is facilitated by a bilingual Okinawan food enthusiast and instructed by professionally trained chefs.
The classes are a fun, social, hands-on experience where you will not only prepare various dishes in a teamwork setting but also learn about ingredients and cooking methods that contribute to Okinawa’s longevity food culture.

Grand Okinawa Food Tour
This is the GRAND OKINAWA FOOD TOUR! I will show you all the great food that Okinawa has to offer, everything from Okinawa Soba to Rafute, but you will also see obscure dishes like Okinawan goat soup and goat sashimi.
I went at to Okinawa at the end of November and the weather was still fantastic. An average of 22°C to 25°C during the day with a water temperature of 26°C. Warm enough to go snorkeling for hours! And definitely the right temperature to get stuffed with good food on Okinawa.
The main dishes that you will see in this video:
Goat Soup
Recently goat soup has seen a renaissance on Okinawa, although even some locals don't really like the taste and smell of it. And trust me: That stuff SMELLS! To get rid of that smell, oftentimes yomogi (Artemisia princeps) is added to the soup. This is also true for the goat soup in the video. To make a long story short, if you like lamb, you should also give this soup a try!
Goat sashimi:
I did not even know that you can eat goat raw. Apparently you can. That does not mean that you should. But you can get goat sashimi at many places that sell the more popular goat soup.
Okinawa Soba:
Looks similar to ramen, but has a completely different flavor profile. The so called soba noodles have nothing to do with the buckwheat soba from the Japanese mainland. Okinawa soba are made from wheat and are served in a pork broth, flavored with konbu and katsuboshi.
Wagyu Soup:
Similar to the goat soup, the base soup is very hearty and a tad sour, probably from vinegar. You will find all kind of cuts in this soup, from lean to fatty, from skin to offal, it is all in there. You definitely have a gutsy flavor in the soup, but it is not too bad. No comparison to the goat soup. If you are not a fan of goat, this is the way to go!

If you want to eat like the locals, the First Makishi Public Market in Naha is an absolute must visit. A bit away from the main tourist street called Kokusai Dori, you will find all the popular Okinawan dishes in their best form. There is almost nothing you cannot get here (maybe except goat soup).

Where to Eat in Okinawa Japan | Best Foods on Island
I am really excited to share with you where to eat in Okinawa, Japan! These places have some of the best foods on island with great prices and great dining experiences. Some of these places are old favorites but others are new discoveries that we instantly fell in love with. This is part 3 of my good eats in Okinawa series, so do go check out my first two videos to see more must-go restaurants in Okinawa. After living in Okinawa for about 15 years, I now live in the states so when I do my yearly visit I try to go to as many places as I can, as well as try new places. JICA Okinawa Global Festa 2019. Part 2. おきなわ国際協力・交流フェスティバル2019.Part2.
On the 2nd and 3rd of November 2019, Global Festa Okinawa 2019 was held at JICA Okinawa. This annual event, co-hosted by Okinawa Prefecture, Urasoe City and Okinawa International Exchange and Human Resources Development Foundation, marks the 24th years and became one of the biggest event on international cooperation and exchange in Okinawa. This year, the festival attracted more than 6,150 guests. The guests enjoyed talking with the JICA OIC participants, strolled many booths related to international exchange and cooperation, and tasted the cuisine of the world.
This video shows the highlight of the festival, the World Dance and Music, Choir, singing performed by overseas participants, Okinawan music and EISA Dance by Maeda EISA team.

I list four restaurants Americans love in Okinawa, Japan. These places have some of the best foods on island with very low prices and a great dining experience. Wondering where to eat off-base? Start with these restaurants to get a feel for the dining scene in Okinawa! Be sure to read the rest of the description box for more details on the places I mentioned.
Please note that this isn't an exclusive list. These are the restaurants that first came to mind due to their unwavering popularity over the years. I have lived in Okinawa for about over 13 years and these are the places that I have enjoyed going with friends and family. While I now live in the states, I still visit once a year and I try to go to as many places as I can during my visit, but unfortunately can't go to all my favorites! So there are definitely more good places to eat and I do have past videos that touch on other restaurants and a couple coming up soon.

Okinawa (沖縄県, Okinawa-ken) is Japan's southernmost prefecture, consisting of a few dozen, small islands in the southern half of the Nansei Shoto, the island chain which stretches over about one thousand kilometers from Kyushu to Taiwan. Okinawa Prefecture can be divided into three major island groups, the Okinawa Islands (Okinawa Shoto) around Okinawa Island (Okinawa Honto), the Miyako Islands (Miyako Retto) around Miyako Island and the Yaeyama Islands (Yaeyama Retto) around Ishigaki Island. Okinawa's climate is subtropical, with temperatures barely falling below 15 degrees in winter. We had tons of fun here and it is definitely a wonderful vacation spot for any travelers venturing off to Japan.

There are two primary franchise competitors for sushi in Okinawa, Kura-Zushi and Hama-Zushi. Our favorite of the two is definitely Kura-Zushi, for its better menu selection and convenient serving system. If you are a sushi lover like us, be sure to check out this delicious rotating sushi restaurant while in Okinawa. Most of the plates at this establishment are 90 yen on weekdays and 100 yen on weekends.
This delicious rotating sushi bar is definitely one of our favorites of the good eats in Okinawa.
