Thai Street Food: The ULTIMATE Chinatown Bangkok Tour (เยาวราช) - Bangkok Day 9
Chinatown Bangkok (เยาวราช) is one of the best Thai street food areas of Bangkok. Download your free Bangkok food guide here:
On Day 9 of this Bangkok travel guide video series (2 Weeks in Bangkok) we spent the entire day eating Thai food in Yaowarat (เยาวราช), which is Chinatown Bangkok. There are some seriously amazing dishes to eat!
1:20 Thai Haeng (ร้านไท้เฮง) Restaurant - To begin out Thai street food tour in Chinatown we started at a restaurant called Thai Haeng (ร้านไท้เฮง), and to specifically eat a dish called suki ruam mit haeng (สุกี้รวมมิตรแห้ง), which is Thai style suki, the dry version. It included napa cabbage, some other vegetables and a mix of seafood and meat, all stir fried with mung bean noodles. It had the most amazing smoky flavor, and was served with a Thai sauce made with fermented soy. We also had a plate of khao man gai (ข้าวมันไก่), which is Thai style chicken rice.
6:28 Sampeng Market (สำเพ็ง) - Along with Thai street food, one of the most famous things about Yaowarat (เยาวราช) is the shopping - both for food shopping and things shopping. Sampeng Market (สำเพ็ง) is a long market that occupies a walking road within Bangkok and you can find all sorts of random things within the market - especially buttons and textiles.
Eeia Saey (ร้านเอียะแซ) coffee shop and Kan Kee Namdaothong (ร้านคั้นกี่น้ำเต้าทอง) Chinese health drink - After finishing a little bit of shopping on this food tour, we stopped at two different places to get a drink. One of them is an old school Bangkok Chinatown heritage coffee shop, and then we had a bitter health beverage that was so intense it almost made me shiver. We then just quickly stopped off at Wat Leng Noi Yee (วัดเล่งเน่ยยี่), one of the most well known Chinese temples in Bangkok.
10:51 Khao Gaeng Jek Puey (ข้าวแกงเจ๊กปุ้ย) - I wasn’t actually planning on eating here on this day food tour in Bangkok, but after passing it, I couldn’t resist sitting down for a quick plate of Thai rice and curry at Khao Gaeng Jek Puey (ข้าวแกงเจ๊กปุ้ย). I got my usual order of stir fried crab, and I also decided to have the panang curry as well. This is one of the best Thai street food stalls in Bangkok especially for the incredibly atmosphere. We continued walking through Talad Drok Itsara Nuphap (ตลาดตรอกอิสรานุภาพ) - a market in an alley.
15:07 Lek and Rut Seafood (ร้านเล็กกับรัตน์ซีฟู้ด) - When it comes to Thai food in Chinatown, seafood is one of the most popular choices. This time we ate at Lek and Rut Seafood (ร้านเล็กกับรัตน์ซีฟู้ด), which is right across the street from the other famous T and K seafood restaurant. We ordered some roasted prawns, and squid steamed in lime juice, garlic and chilies. The food was delicious!
21:56 Kuay Jab Nay Lek (ร้านก๋วยจั๊บนายเล็ก (อ้วน) - A Thai food trip to Chinatown wouldn’t be complete without a bowl of kuay jab tuk yang (ก๋วยจั๊บทุกอย่าง), which is a bowl of noodle rolls in a peppery broth. It’s one of the ultimate Thai dishes in Chinatown.
25:28 Hoy Kraeng Pa Jeen (หอยแครงป้าจิน) - To end the day of eating, at least for main street food stalls, we headed to Hoy Kraeng Pa Jeen (หอยแครงป้าจิน), a place that specializes in boiled blood cockles and mussels. They are some of the finest shellfish you’ll find anywhere in Bangkok, and this Thai street food stall has been around for over 50 years I believe. It’s an amazing place!
30:15 For dessert we had Khanom Pang Jao Gao (ขนมปังเจ้าเก่าเด็ดในเยาวราช), an incredibly popular place that specializes in grilled bread, and bua loy nam king (บัวลอยน้ำขิง), which is ginger soup and sesame dumplings.

THAI FOOD FESTIVAL in Bangkok! (Amazing Thai Taste Festival) - Hot Thai Kitchen
The Amazing Thai Taste Festival is a fantastic stop for foodies if you happen to be in Bangkok around this time! The festival has booths from all sorts of vendors: street food, restaurants, even a cooking school! And it has a stage with live cooking demo and performances (which was incredibly LOUD hence me yelling my way through this place! Sorry about that...).
It was actually not as big as I expected, which isn't a bad thing, because it means that you CAN realistically see everything in one evening. There are some seats and tables for eating there as well, but not much. It's hot though, so be prepared!
WANT TO GO NEXT YEAR? I think this is the first time they organized this festival so hopefully there will be a next year! This year (2017) it took place at the Makkasan Airport Link station around mid June. Location may change next year so definitely look it up! You can check out the Tourism Authority of Thailand website and Facebook page for more info on festivals like this.

Thai Street Food in Bangkok - MOST POPULAR LUNCH Noodles in Downtown Silom, Thailand!
Thai street food lunch tour in Silom, Bangkok!
I met up with my friend Drew Binsky (check out his YouTube channel: and Facebook: to go on a lunch-rush street food tour of Silom.
Silom is one of the main financial business districts of Bangkok, it’s a downtown of Bangkok. Everyday at lunch floods of people from their offices come down for lunch and enjoy delicious street food. What I love so much about Silom is because it has such a vibrant and busy lunchtime rush, and that’s part of the fun.
We arrived a little early, to get a couple lunches in before the main lunch. The highlight of this Thai street food tour for me was Kuay Teow Khae (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวแคะ (โคตร โคตร) คอนแวนต์), one of the most popular lunch noodles shops in Bangkok!
Ok, here’s all the food we ate in this tour:
Khao Man Gai Ban Deed Kim (ข้าวมันไก่บัญฑิตคิม) - If you’ve ever gotten off the BTS at Sala Daeng station and walked down Soi Convent, you’ve probably walked right by this stall. And I’ve walked past it hundreds of times, but this was actually my first time to stop and eat there. They are well known in Bangkok for their khao man gai (ข้าวมันไก่), Thai style Hainanese chicken and rice. We each ordered a plate to get things started. Overall, very good, light fluffy rice with just the right amount if chicken oil, bouncy chicken, and fermented soybean sauce.
Price - 50 THB ($1.52)
Yee Jay (ยีเจ ก๋วยเตี๋ยวเนื้อตุ๋น-หมูตุ๋น) - Next we took a little walk through Silom, Downtown Bangkok, to another popular beef noodle shop. Again, it was my first time to eat here. We arrived before the main lunch rush, but at 11 am they were already preparing for the crowds with big amounts of meat waiting to be served. We had bowls of everything (เกาเหลาทุกอย่าง), including organs and braised beef. Their soup was fragrant with Chinese spices and the aroma of beef. It’s not the best bowl of braised beef soup in Bangkok, but it’s decent.
Price - 70 THB ($2.14)
Kuay Teow Khae (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวแคะ (โคตร โคตร) คอนแวนต์) - Finally for the main lunch, we went to one of the most popular Thai street food noodle stalls in Silom. For lunch everyday they are packed, every single seat, and if you arrive at a time like when we did, you have to wait to get a seat - sometimes 30 minutes or more. They have a few different options, but we all ordered their signature special bowl (เส้นโซบะยำแห้ง), including egg noodles topped with everything. This is one of the better single bowls of noodles in Bangkok in my opinion.
Price - 60 THB ($1.83)
Khanom Tokyo (ขนมโตเกียว (ลุงโตเกียว) - Lastly, to end this Thai street food tour in Bangkok, we were just walking past with Uncle Tokyo called us over to try his snacks. He makes both savory (with a hot dog) and sweet versions, filled with a variety of different custards. Drew and I had to try the hot dog, mostly just for fun… I’ll be honest, not a big fan of Thai hot dogs, but the sweet ones were great. And Uncle Tokyo is such a nice friendly man. If you are on Soi Convent in Silom around lunchtime, go say hi to him!
Price - 4 for 10 THB ($0.30)
And that completes this Thai street food tour in Silom, hope you enjoyed it!

PRATUNAM Street Food! | AUTHENTIC Thai Dishes in Bangkok, Thailand
Pratunam area is one of my favorite places for street food in Bangkok. The pavements become cluttered as it is loaded with street food carts that dot the road.
These street food carts and restaurants are the best way to sample some tasty Thai cuisine, with all regular snacks and dishes cooked up in front of you, all for just a few baht.
After wondering around the very busy streets of Pratunam, I noticed a very nice couple selling some very interesting and authentic Thai dips. I was drawn to this particular dish because it looks very similar to a Cambodian dish that I have had before.
First up, I had the Fish Dip, which was seasoned perfectly. A little salty, a little sour and packed with herbs. The fish itself was quite tasty as it did not give off a very fishy taste.
Second was the Eggplant and Mushroom Dip. This vegetarian style dip was very fresh and light. Also seasoned perfectly with fish sauce and herbs. The Eggplant and Mushrooms really gave it an interesting texture.
Third up was the Mango and Fish Dip, which was my favorite one. This was made with green mango and dried fish. This dip was just full of flavor as it was jammed packed with herbs and spices, and tang from the fresh mango. The dried fish had a very interesting smoky flavor and crunchy texture.
Lastly was the Fermented Fish and Chili Dip. This was the most intense out of the group! Not only was the chili very hard to handle, but the fermented fish definitely had a kick as well. This dip is probably not for everyone, as it has a very strong fish taste.
In addition to the dips, there are also a wide range of fresh vegetables to choose from. These dips are traditionally dipped with these vegetables and eaten with rice. I went with the Thai Eggplant, Okra, Banana Flower and Sticky Rice.
Very delicious dish in my opinion. Be sure to give it a go if you happen to see it around.
The Pratunam Market area is opposite the Platinum Fashion Mall, this area has streets and alleys that are full of food and shops. Walk into the street towards the Pratunam Post Office, until you hit a T junction. You will see the area exploded with activity!
The closest BTS station is Chit Lom Station, which is about a 10 minute walk.

1. TALAD KAO MARKET: Mrs. Pan’s Bug Cart
ADDRESS: Soi Lat Krabang 5, Lat Krabang, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10520
OPEN: 2PM - 10PM
????The night before Mrs. Pan cooks the bugs she will later sell in the market, her son goes to Khlong Toei, Bangkok’s largest wet market, to purchase a variety of insects. She begins cooking each morning in order to make it to the market and set up her cart by 2pm. To cook the bugs, Mrs. Pan first adds oil and chopped pandan leaves to a frying pan. The pandan leaves add a nice fragrance to the bugs while cutting the bitter taste. She adds her first round of bugs and allows them to fry for roughly 30 minutes. She allows the crickets to cook for only 15 minutes. To enhance the flavors, she does not clean the pan between bugs. Then she’s off to the market, to fill hungry bellies with bugs!
????PRICE: 1.50 USD/50 THB for Mixed Bowl of Bugs
1.20 USD/40 THB for Giant Water Bug
2. TOY KUAY TEOW: Boat Noodles (Blood Noodle Soup)
ADDRESS: 15 Ratchawithi Rd, Khwaeng Thung Phaya Thai, Khet Ratchathewi, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon
OPEN: 8AM - 6PM
????Toy Kuay Teow has been serving up boat noodles for 50 years and is on its third generation. To make one of Bangkok’s most beloved noodle soups, combine chilli dressing, pork, meatballs, vermicelli noodles, pork blood, pork soup, scallions and herbs, bok choy, fried pork skin and fried flat noodles (optional). Beef boat noodles include beef blood, rather than pork blood.
????PRICE: .46 USD/15 THB for a small bowl
.91 USD/30 THB for a normal bowl
3. J'KHAI SEAFOOD: Horseshoe Crab Eggs
ADDRESS: 1300/3-4 Prachachuen Road, Bangsue Bangkok
OPEN: 3PM - 12AM
J’Khai Seafood started when the owner began selling food from a small cart 34 years ago. It is now a multi-story restaurant in Bangkok, and their signature “Thai curry steamed horseshoe crab eggs” recently won Wongnai Users’ Choice for best dish.
????To make this tasty meal, they first steam the horseshoe crab, cutting open the lower part of the crab to remove all of the eggs. Separately, create the seasoning, mixing Thai red curry paste, sugar, MSG, oyster sauce and carnation milk. Add the seasoning to an oiled, heated pan before adding chicken egg and finger root. Allow to stir-fry for a bit, then scoop everything back into the horseshoe crab shell. Take the horseshoe crab and grill it over hot charcoal until bubbling. Top it off with coconut milk, sliced lime leaves and carrots before diving in.
????PRICE: 15 USD/500 THB per Horseshoe Crab (may vary)

Thai Street Food Tour in Bangkok, Thailand at Chatuchak Market (จตุจักร)
Join us for a Thai street food tour in Bangkok as we visit Chatuchak Weekend Market (ตลาดจตุจักร) which is the biggest market in of of Thailand and a great place to sample cheap Thai food.
Also known as Jatujak or JJ Market (จตุจักร) you'll find over 15,000 booths spread out over 27 acres of space. To cover the entire market would be a daunting task but just randomly wandering around and sampling cheap Thai eats is what we most recommend. For some reason we especially had a sweet tooth so you'll notice we sampled a lot of Thai desserts. Open on Saturday and Sunday it can attraction over 200,000+ visitors per day so be prepared to bump elbows with others. Also, we'd recommend visiting earlier in the morning to avoid crowds and the midday sun.
Here is a complete list of the Thai street food we sampled:
1) Itim Kati - ไอติมกะทิ: Thai coconut ice cream inside a coconut
2) Kluay Tod - กล้วยแขก: Fried battered Thai bananas or plantains
3) Thai Coconut Solution Noodles (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวแก้ปัญหามะพร้าว)
4) Thai beer (Leo เบียร์ลีโอ)
5) Thai chocolate, banana and egg pancake (roti) (โรตีกล้วย)
6) Thai Mango Sticky Rice (Khao Neow Ma Muang - ข้าวเหนียวมะม่วง)

Thai Street Food Tour in Bangkok, Thailand at Chatuchak Market (จตุจักร) Video Transcript:
So it is a Sunday here in Bangkok (กรุงเทพมหานคร) and today we're visiting one of the most popular markets in all of Bangkok. We're going to Chatuchak (จตุจักร). Yeah. Woo hoo.
It is a massive market. It is open only on the weekends and we're going to get to eat a lot of Thai street food today. So come join us. That is the plan.
We are now officially entering the market and it is packed. We're here around noon and it is just full of people. And this is just the entrance. Ah!
So one of the recommendations I read online for this market is to visit early in the morning before it gets really busy. Um, and we were like no we should wait until it is crowded that way we'll have ambience and we can show you what it is really like. But the problem now is that it is super hot. It is probably like 12 noon and it is jammed packed. There is almost nowhere to walk and it is a little bit overwhelming but I guess that is to be expected from Thailand's biggest market. So here we are looking for food.
Oh man. It is so good. This is one of those Thai desserts that no matter how much I've eaten for the day I could like be totally stuffed and I'm still got a bit of room for this. There is always room for sticky rice. It is just that good. It is just that good. Love that stuff. And if you're coming here I mean at 50 Baht it is really cheap and I highly recommend trying this. You can have it on the street, you can have it in restaurants. You can have it just about anywhere. This is a classic Thai dessert.
Alright guys so we just finished visiting Chatuchak Market (จตุจักร) and now we're relaxing and resting a bit at Chatuchak Park (สวนจตุจักร) which is like right down the street basically.
This is basically an oasis. It is an oasis after the market. Oh my gosh.
The market is overwhelming. Just to give you a little bit of perspective the market has over 8000 stalls. It has 27 different sections and apparently it takes up something like 35 acres of space.
So it is huge. And we couldn't find any maps that kind of like plotted out this is the food area, this is like the fashion. So we were wandering around aimlessly for a long time. And we finally just started purchasing random snacks along the way.
So I don't even know if we made it to the proper like food court area but we found Thai street food. We ate so we're full, we're satisfied and now it is time to go rest.

Thai cuisine and street food in Thailand has taken influences from many other styles of Asian cooking, including Chinese food. You’ll find Thai street food on many street corners in Thailand, as well as at every market, be it in Bangkok, Krabi, Phuket or Pattaya. Thai food markets are one of the best places to buy fresh and authentic Thai food while you travel in Thailand. There are loads of Thai food markets and night market all over Thailand, you’re never far from one. At the markets you'll find so many Thai dishes on offer and the foods here are cheap, and so tasty! And in case you’re worried, eating Thai street food is perfectly safe. It’s what the locals eat and it is cooked fresh and sold quickly. I’ve been eating it nearly daily in Thailand since I moved here in April, 2012 and my friends who have been to visit and tour Thailand have all eaten it, and none of us have had any problems. Thai street food is some of the best Thai cuisine you’ll find in Thailand!

Mike and I decided to go on a Thai street food noodles tour, where we tried 5 different types of Thai street food noodle dishes in one day. Mike was in Bangkok visiting from New York, and we got along very well - both of us are food lovers, and both of us are a little obsessed with spice.
Here are the restaurants where we ate in the Thai street food noodle tour of Bangkok.
1. Wattana Panich (วัฒนาพานิช) - This place is legendary for serving braised beef noodles, and most importantly for their giant everlasting cauldron of simmering meat that never stops. Their classic bowl of beef noodles is a little expensive due to the area and fame, but it’s so good. If you’re more adventurous you can also try their Soup Number 5, and the goat soup which is outstanding.
Kuay teow neua tukyang (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวเนื้อทุกอย่าง beef noodles with everything)
Soup number 5 (ตัวเดียวอันเดียวแพะ bull penis soup)
Sup peh (ซุปแพะ braised goat soup)
Total price - 765 THB ($22.01)
2. Nay Lao Radna Yodpak (นายเหลา ราดหน้ายอดผัก) - At this little restaurant you’ll find one of the best versions of Thai pad see ew in all of Bangkok. It’s smoky, full of flavor, and the egg makes it incredible.
Pad see ew sen yai (ผัดซีอิ๊วเส้นใหญ่)
Pad see ew sen mee paem kai jeow (ผัดซีอิ๊วเส้นหมี่เพิ่มไข่เจียว)
Sen yai radna (เส้นใหญ่ราดหน้า)
5 bowls of noodles - 275 THB ($7.91)
3. Kuay Teow Reua Khon Mee Sen (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวเรือคนมีเส้น) - Boat noodles are probably one of the most locally popular Thai street food noodle of choice in Bangkok. We went to a place that’s a little far out, but it was pretty good. There are also many places to eat boat noodles within Bangkok.
Kuay teow reua nam tok moo (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวเรือน้ำตกหมู)
แคปหมู
Price - 10 THB ($0.29) per bowl
4. Uan Bamee Giew Guangdong (อ้วน บะหมี่เกี๊ยว (กวางตุ้ง) - For years now, this has been one of my personal favorite Thai street food stalls in Bangkok for Thai Chinese egg noodles.
Bamee giew moo daeng haeng (บะหมี่เกี๊ยวหมูแดงแห้ง)
Price - 40 THB ($1.15) per bowl
5. Pad Thai Je Tim (ผัดไทยเจ๊ติ๋ม) - To be honest, we sort of just ran out of time, and needed to take the baby home to sleep, so we weren’t able to eat a better version of Pad Thai. This place was pretty average, but it finished off our 5 Thai noodles tour of Bangkok. For a better Pad Thai, I'd recommend:
Pad Thai goong sod (ผัดไทยกุ้งสด)
Pad Thai haw kai (ผัดไทยห่อไข่)
Total price - 95 THB ($2.73)
Thank you for watching, hope you enjoyed this Thai street food noodles tour of Bangkok!
