On the first day in Guatemala we stayed the entire day at the hotel and ate traditional and gourmet maya Guatemalan food! To start we visited the Market restaurant there we tried Kak Ik soup and we also tried a flank steak with white cheese and black bean mash.
I hit up the spa for an amazing Cacao massage which was amazing! It felt like I was being covered with Nutella and then cooked! Such a great experience which I highly recommend!
For dinner we visited their Picasso restaurant and the chef prepared for us a food and drink pairing. These dishes were more gourmet maya Guatemalan food. My favorite was the tuna with avocado with smoke! It was unreal!
Big thanks to my friends at the Real Intercontinental Guatemala:

Chiquimula Hotel (La Caballeriza/Los Laureles):
I am not a coffee drinker, but of course if I am in Guatemala and doing a tour of a coffee farm in Antigua, then I need to try some coffee! This tour was super informative and entertaining. Our guide at Filadelfia Coffee Resort & Tours was funny and tried his best to help us understand the process of making Guatemala's famous coffee. Did you know that their largest export is to Japan? That's right, the Japanese love Guatemalan coffee. After hanging out at Filadelfia Coffee Resort & Tours for a bit, we then got on the road to Chiquimula where the group I was traveling with (Vivid Roots & Hopscotch the Globe) would be volunteering for the next few days.
On the way to Chiquimula, we stopped by San Antonio Aguas Calientes, which is a town in Guatemala famously responsible for creating most of the textiles and artisanal products. We went to the Mercado de Artesanias to see how the weavers create clothes, table clothes, hair tires, and more all by hand.
We then continued on our trek to Chiquimula, Guatemala! We finally arrived to our hotel, which was part of a horse ranch called Los Laureles (La Caballeriza). This hotel is beautiful by the way! If you want a relaxing retreat in Guatemala then hotel La Caballeriza is the place to go.

5 Things NOT To Do in Guatemala
Get more Tips here! destinationtips.com
With its lush landscapes, Mayan ruins, and towering volcanoes, there aren't too many things not to love about Guatemala. But like most countries, there are some Things NOT To Do in Guatemala.
1. Don't Visit Guatemala City
According to the U.S. Department of State's travel notice, the city is rife with violent crimes against U.S. citizens and foreign travelers. The capital was once considered safe, but those days are long gone.
2. Don't Wear Flip Flops to the Mayan Ruins
Unless you want to lose your footing and sprain an ankle, leave the flip flops in your suitcase. The ancient Mayan Ruins are over a thousand years old, staircases may be unstable, and grassy areas uneven. So watch your step!
3. Don't Have Your Heart Set on Delicious Coffee
Guatemala may be known for producing some of the best brews you'll ever taste. Sadly, most of the coffee is exported, which means you won't be sipping a cup of Guatemalan joe during your stay.
4. Don't Travel at Night
It's a necessary precaution when traveling, especially in Guatemala. When night falls, the chances of becoming a victim of a crime are far greater.
5. Don't Take Photos of the Locals Without Permission
There are unsubstantiated rumors in Mayan communities that foreigners have the intent to steal their children and sell them abroad. A Japanese tourist was tragically killed by an angry mob of 500 villagers after he took pictures of indigenous women and children in a market.
Where do you want to know what NOT to do in next?

BEST PLACES TO EAT IN ANTIGUA, GUATEMALA - DAY 2
Best place to eat in Antigua, Guatemala? Follow me around in Antigua as we look for good vegan/non-vegan food, and taste gourmet Guatemalan coffee! Antigua has some of the best food I’ve ever had. All their produce is super fresh and tasty. I would go back just for the food... Also, it was not a problem to be vegan there, they had a bunch of different places to eat. And I was even able to make my dishes gluten free!
Between all the eating, we actually managed to go on a hike to one of the main lookout points in Antigua. The view from the top is breathtaking!
Enjoy, and I see you soon for episode 3, where I will be climbing on an active volcano!

Guatemala Food Cooking School in Antigua, Guatemala:
Guatemala Food Cooking School is an immersive cultural experience for the culinary adventurers out there who are visiting Antigua, Guatemala. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the Guatemala Food Cooking Class as part of my volunteer trip with Vivid Roots & Hopscotch the Globe. While in Antigua, we did a walking tour and learned how to cook authentic Guatemalan Food. Some of the Guatemalan dishes that we prepared and ate were Jocón, Rellenitos, Elote Loco (crazy corn), fresh corn tortillas, traditional Guatemalan tostadas, Guatemalan style rice & more.
This was an amazing experience to have in Guatemala with a wonderful group of people. Not only was it a great bonding time with the group of volunteers, but it was also a great learning environment. After a few drinks and some music, we danced our way through the kitchen and were ready to eat the Guatemalan food we had just prepared ourselves. This was definitely a night to remember.

PUCHICA GUATEMALAN BAR AND GRILL
Taste & Rate with Nessa Garcia visits Puchica Bar and Grill in Sherman Oaks.
Guatemala's Fuego Volcano (Volcano of Fire) erupted in a hail of ash before noon on June 04, 2018 sending lava into peoples homes within rural communities. Several people were injured, lost their homes, while others have yet to be accounted for.
Flows reached about 1,300 degrees Fahrenheit (700 Celsius).
Puchica Bar and Grill will be donating 20% of their earnings for the month of June. The money will be sent to the Red Cruz of Antigua Guatemala. The funds will be used to help any survivors and recover any bodies amid the still- smoking lava.
If you would like to contribute there are many ways in which you are able to do so. In this video, you will see how Puchica Bar and Grill is determined to help out. Trying Volcanic Coffee in Antigua Guatemala
So what is volcanic coffee? Quite simply, it's coffee grown on a volcano. When we chose to visit Antigua in Guatemala, a community tour with De la Gente was on our bucket list. Having researched before, we were most looking forward to learning about our favourite beverage, while spending the day with a local coffee farmer. We travelled to San Miguel Escobar to begin our tour, and learned how coffee goes from bean to cup. To buy volcanic coffee, learn more about De la Gente's initiatives and the amazing work they do to help local farmers, you can visit there website:
