Jitney (Dry-Hopped Sour) | Tatamagouche Brewing Co. | Beer Review | #32
I'm back today with another review from the Tatamagouche Brewing Company in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, Canada, and this time I'm looking at their Jitney, which is a dry-hopped sour. It's dry-hopped with El Dorado hops and uses a yeast strain that is typically used in New England-style IPAs. Quite interesting. I also want to thank Lee Russell, from the They Must Be Destroyed On Sight! movie podcast, for hooking me up with this beer.

The Jitney was a self propelled train, that made a lot of smoke, noise and steam, travelling the short line between Oxford and Stellarton, passing through Tatamagouche. Tart and juicy, Jitney is dry hopped with El Dorado, adding tropical fruit flavours including pineapple and mango. This beer is going to make a lot of noise.

Deception Bay IPA | Tatamagouche Brewing Co. | Beer Review | #24
For the first review on the channel in almost a month, I'm going to be taking a look at another beer that was sent to me courtesy of Lee Russell from the They Must Be Destroyed On Sight! movie podcast. Lee, formerly of the now-defunct Hougly's Beer Reviews, sent me a beer mail about a month ago, and the beer I'm reviewing today is Deception Bay IPA from the Tatamagouche Brewing Company in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, Canada. The brewery is an organic one, and the beer is an American IPA, so it was interesting to see what this brewery -- and beer -- had in store for me.

PEI Brewing Company released a new and improved Black Banks. It is named after an area in western PEI where the shore appears black from layers of peat moss. Black Banks Cascadian Dark Ale is deceptively dark. It's like a little lie in a glass. At first you might expect strong roasty /coffee aromas, but instead you'll get a snoot-full of bright citrus and tropical hop aromas gliding just above mild but rich chocolate and bread crust aromas. This new brew will be available in their retail area by January 13 on tap and in 473 mL cans at the PEI Brewing Company, the PEILCC locations and ANBL locations shortly after.

Garrison Brewing kicked off fall with the release of its pumpkin seasonal, Double Jack Pumpkin Ale. It is a 8% ABV ale and was one of my favorite pumpkin beers last year, not overly spiced.
North Brewing launched their second harvest ale Setting Sun. It is a wet hopped saison aged on sour cherries. Hops from the valley include Cascade, Willamette and Chinook, and they aged the beer on valley grown cherries from Stirling Fruit Farms. The result is a beautiful thing. Aromas that evoke a ripe cherry orchard, notes of tart cherry followed by grapefruit bitterness and rounded out with a peppery finish.
Meander River Farm says its beer Homegrown, their once a year offering of a wet hopped brew made entirely with hops grown on the farm, is ready. The hops are picked fresh and brewed within 24 hours to create a very unique, smooth, extremely tasty golden beer with exceptional hop character. Unfiltered Brewing released its next beer today. Hop Riot India Red Ale is Nash's first single-varietal fresh-hopped beer, made with 200 kg of Centennial. In their pursuit of trying to source as much as possible locally they were very happy to find that the Maritime Hop Growers Cooperative could provide all the hops they needed for the batch. The hops were in the mash-tun within about six hours of harvesting, and they say you can taste the fresh hoppiness and roasted malt. It is a 7.3% ABV beer.

The beer was described by Tenille Goodspeed, Marketing Assistant at the Halifax Jazzfest, as a light, crystal clear, refreshing beer that is just the thing to have at an outdoor festival She also relayed that the beer recipe breaks down as about 10% wheat, 90% 2nd Row (Maritime) barley and a dash of Columbus hop with a IBU of 8 and a 4% ABV.
