castle established 1560 to before 1700.matoba mountain can't ride by a car. but mini bike 50cc size only can ride ntt microwave tower maintenance road 4km to top 20minits. two way road by walk are 90minits from tatsuno castle park side of famouse public red dragonflyes rest house.

城内、本丸御殿ともにゆっくり散策出来ました。
また、どちらも無料で入城出来ます。駐車場も台数は少ないですが無料です。ただし道中分かりにくく狭い道がありますので要注意です。
【龍野城 歴史】
◎龍野城は鶏籠山（けいろうさん）の山城と山麓の平山城との二期に分かれる。龍野城は今から５百年ほど前（室町時代明応の末期）鶏籠山山頂に築かれたもので、初代城主は赤松村秀でありました。以後赤松時代は４代続きましたが、天正５年（１５７７）に信長の命による秀吉の播州征伐の軍門に降り開城しました。その後慶長初年に山頂にあった天守が破却されたといういい伝えがあります。
◎江戸時代に入ると龍野城は現在地に平山城として築かれましたが、万治元年京極高和の丸亀城移転にさいして破却され、その後１４年間は天領となっていました。寛文１２年（１６７２）幕命によって信州飯田から脇坂安政が５万３千石で入部し龍野城を再建しましたが、時代は既に大平の世でもあり、また外様大名でもあったので幕府の嫌忌に触れることを怖れ御殿式の築城に決したといわれ、そのため城郭というより武装化した邸宅と考えていただければよいと思います。現在の本丸御殿は、昭和５４年に再建したものですが、再建にあたっては当時を偲ぶ貴重な資料や現在残る数点の古図に基づき重建したものです（文は現地説明板より）
