The Taurus Mountains (Turkish: Toros Dağları, Armenian: Տաւրոսեան լեռներ, Ancient Greek: Ὄρη Ταύρου) are a mountain complex in southern Turkey, separating the Mediterranean coastal region of southern Turkey from the central Anatolian Plateau. The system extends along a curve from Lake Eğirdir in the west to the upper reaches of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers in the east. It is a part of the Alpide belt in Eurasia.
The Taurus mountains are divided into three chains from west to east as follows;
Western Taurus (Batı Toroslar)
Akdağlar, the Bey Mountains, Katrancık Mountain, Geyik Mountain
Central Taurus (Orta Toroslar)
Akçalı Mountains, Bolkar Mountains, Anti-Taurus Mountains, Tahtalı Mountains, Aladaglar Mountain
Southeastern Taurus (Güneydoğu Toroslar)
Nurhak Mountains, Malatya Mountains, Maden Mountains, Genç Mountains, Bitlis Mountains

On the highest peak of eastern Turkey's Taurus mountains, sits Nemrut Dağ. In 62 B.C., King Antiochus I Theos of Commagene ordered the construction of this site—which contains a temple, a tomb and a house of gods—to commemorate himself. At one point, the heads of these sculptures sat on top of the stone bodies, but they now lie scattered throughout the site. Lost for centuries, Nemrut Dağ was excavated in 1883.

Easter Island isn't the only place in the world with massive, mysterious and ancient stone faces. On the highest peak of eastern Turkey's Taurus mountains, sits Nemrut Dağ. In 62 B.C., King Antiochus I Theos of Commagene ordered the construction of this site—which contains a temple, a tomb and a house of gods—to commemorate himself. The tomb is flanked by 30-foot statues of the king, as well as pairs of lions, eagles and various gods. At one point, the heads of these sculptures sat on top of the stone bodies, but they now lie scattered throughout the site. Lost for centuries, Nemrut Dağ was excavated in 1883. Now, it sits as a testament to an ancient culture and the grand ambitions of a self-obsessed king.

Andrew Collins and Hugh Newman explore Mount Nemrut (Nemrut Dag) in Turkey. It is an immense mound on a mountaintop located in the eastern Taurus mountain range in southern Turkey, near the town of Adiyaman. Mount Nemrut is home to an ancient complex built by the fourth, and arguably the most famous, king of Commagene, Antiochus I Theos (the ‘God King’). In Armenian legend, Hayk defeated the Biblical king Nimrod (equated with Bel) and buried him in these mountains.
