Europe 2019 (Pt. 43) - Taxi to Dubrovnik, Croatia
August 7, 2019 - The ferry dock in Dubrovnik at Gruž is about a 3km journey from the old walled city of Dubrovnik; there's no way we're walking that far with 50 lbs of luggage each, so...TAXI!

Road tripping around the Balkans is a great way to see the various countries. It only takes a few hours to drive between these major tourist cities (and UNESCO world heritage sites) like Mostar, Bosnia, Dubrovnik, Croatia, and Kotor, Montenegro. The Daso fam begins our family road trip around the Balkans. My parents pick me up in Split, Croatia and we make our way down to Dubrovnik, about 4 hours drive, to pick Wil up. This is our first time in Dubrovnik so we have a lot to explore!

Dubrovnik, Croatia: How To Make The Most Of Your Trip With Your Travel Companions
So you decide to travel with a great friend and you realize that the trip isn't the 'honeymoon' you had pictured it out to be.
Rip Each Others Hair Out Could Be An Option...
OR how about we go for a more peaceful approach? Okay? Great, so let's go for that, which takes me to my video. In this episode I share with you a few tips I've applied to have a more enjoyable trip with my travel companions - be it family or friends.
No, But I Want To Do This Other Thing Instead!
I can go on and on about times I've travelled with people and, before even landing, realising how we have different expectations for the trip. What a headache! I've now learned to prepare for the worse, but aiming for the best. I chose to talk about this topic because a friend of mine messaged me recently saying she was stuck in a nightmare, having a terrible time on a trip to Buenos Aires with a friend who was showing her worst self during their travels.
I hope you can use these tips and make the most of your next travels.

TRAVEL TIPS
Must see in Dubrovnik
Pi-Pi restaurant. I made my friends get up early before heading off to our next destination because I needed to try this place for breakfast. My initial motivation was the name - since my childhood nickname is 'Pi' - but I than realised I was thankfully taken to this wonderful little restaurant, away from the crowds and with an impressive view of Dubrovnik.
Talking about view, I also recommend visiting Fort Lovrijenac, where you get a wonderful view of Dubrovnik's old town.
Must taste in Dubrovnik
When asking for information, I got recommended pasta with mussels and soon saw a cook, hard at work, mixing a big pan of that specific dish. My mouth watered.
One particular restaurant I recommend Moby Dick. Not only was the food great - I particularly had pasta with mussels - but it's wonderful for people watching. Ah, how I love looking at people around me. If you'd rather be away from the crowd, give the sea-side restaurant Orhan a try, which is close to Lovrijenac. It's nice and calm compared to the old city.
What I'd do Differently next time
We rented a car to be able to go to Montenegro, Kotor. I would do that differently, though. Because it was absolutely impossible to park the car in Dubrovnik and the parking was super expensive. So if you want to rent a car to go to Kotor, get it on the same day as your trip, that way you don't need to worry about parking. You can easily rent a car at the airport and return it there, and the airport has shuttles and taxis that take you into Dubrovnik.
What I'd make time to do if I went back
I would take a walking tour of the city. I read a lot about Dubrovnik before arriving, to get a feel for it. But nothing beats actually having a local tour. Sometimes I feel it's unnecessary, but for Dubrovnik I feel it was something I missed. I know I could have learned much more than I did.
Don't give up just yet, there's always a way to twist the plot of your story.
