Gorge Drive Route 82 Kalamata To Sparta & Hiking Taygetos Mountains GREECE
Today we’re on a day trip from Kalamata going to Sparta via the gorge road know as Route 82. We’d heard this is an amazing scenic drive with loads of valley views and windy mountain roads, but the reality exceeded our expectations! This was one of the best mountain drives we have ever done!
We made a pit stop at a hillside taverna in Tripi where the views are amazing and the drink portions are generous!
From Sparta there is easy access to hike the Taygetos Mountains, so we used our Bradt guidebook and went on a 2 hour hike starting in the hills above Paroreio and ending back down in Mystras. The trail went past a 14th century cave church, which had beautiful wall frescoes and was a peaceful place to take a break.

We said goodbye to our jobs, sold all our belongings, and left Australia on a one-way ticket to Shanghai with just each other and our backpacks! We plan to travel the world for a year, see as much as possible, meet as many people as we can, and most importantly MAKE OUR MONEY LAST!

In the heart of central eastern Taygetus, situated on St-Lias Golas of the Municipality of Faris, in a region characterized of particular natural beauty and at a height of 1,ooo m. we find Faris Inn integrated in the agrico-tourism complex of the family Kokkoros.
Its name comes from the homonymous Achaean city Faris (faris= ploughed land, land that can be sowed, fertile land) that prospered in the region before the Dorian Sparta.
Built on the highest point of a farm of 108,000 sq.metres, overgrown with walnut trees and chesnut trees, the Inn offers a panoramic view of Taygetos and the plain of Lacedaemon.
The farmland that encloses it is already placed in a biological regime.
Faris Inn operates on the basis of the specifications of the National Organization of Tourism. It’s a family business.

Am 12. Mai 2019 Enduro in Taygetos in den Bergen zwischen Sparta und Kalamata.
Die Strecke ist ca. 95 Km lang, markiert und es geht kräftig rauf und runter. Es gibt weder Timing noch Wertung. Nenngeld 10.- €.
Dafür einen ganzen Tag echtes Enduro und hinterher gab's ein ganzes Schwein mit Griechischem Salat, Brot und Wein.

It’s one of the most stunning routes in the country with overhanging cliffs on the drive. As you steadily climb the dips and inclines of the mountain road you can readily enjoy a great view of the mountain and the landscape and seascape below. Swerving along curves that have the contours of ribbon candy, tires screech feistily. Skim along a gorge and the Langada Pass to glimpse why this road has been called one of the most breathtaking in Greece.

His creativity is what made him distinguish, his imagination is what leaded the way and no matter his lack of academic education belief and love are the perfect combination to any kind of profession. Caviar and the cinema, salmon and the canapés, fruits of the water and land... a job like no other!
Giannis Gerontidis was born in Kastoreio, Laconia in 1975 a village near Sparta, Taygetos. He grew up in Sparta, where he finished high school. Before having the chance to join University he had to take hold of a trout farm and a food store, a family enterprise of two generations, something of course that would have done anyway. A restless mind by nature, he never lulled himself from the knowledge he could gain and was determined to maximize the unit's capabilities. So he began to read scientific books, attend to various seminars concerning management, marketing, merchandising and financial accounting, organization and business fields, offering to the market one of the first Greek gourmet products, award-winning, patented and unique.
