Marlborough Series -cyclocross B Grade Harling Park, Blenheim
Don't miss Marlborough's first ever Cyclocross Series hosted over 6 Sundays this winter.
We are promoting this new sport to the Marlborough region and want to give everyone the opportunity to have a go and experience the fun, thrill and laughs -- riders and spectators alike!
While the courses are largely flat, weaving and meandering around a spectator friendly loop, a number of obstacles such as barriers to hurdle, slopes (or stairs) to climb carrying or pushing your bike, short sharp pinch climbs, off camber slopes, grassy paddocks and hopefully muddy conditions to test the skills and resolve of participants.
Spectators welcome, the rowdier the better. Cowbells, pots/pans + wooden spoons and gumboots are 'de rigueur'. Heckling, cheering and tossing spot prize vouchers on to the track to distract riders is encouraged.
Venues
1. Sunday 22 July - Mtb Park, Taylor Pass Road, Blenheim.
2. Sunday 29 July - Harling Park, Blenheim.
3. Sunday 12 August -- QCC/Victoria Domain, Picton.

Slow TV - Blenheim to Wellington via Rarangi and the Cook Strait Ferry
Take the less travelled road between Blenheim and Picton. Turn right just north of Blenheim and head toward Rarangi on the coast, from there follow the road north all the way to Picton. I didn't realise how long it would take. The normal route, north along State Highway One takes about 25 minutes - you need to allow at least an hour and a half to travel along this coastal road. I was pressed for time as I had a ferry to catch, so I didn't spend as much time as I would have liked. The camera does a reasonably good job at showing you the road, much of it is gravel, but it didn't capture some of the absolutely spectacular views of the upper coast of the South Island and failed to capture much of the Cook Strait scenery across to the North Island. If you have the time, and don't mind driving on gravel roads, this drive is well worth doing. You may want to split it up into two days and camp in one of the beautiful bays along the way. There are a number of campgrounds along the way and some stunningly beautiful beaches.
A Weekend in Auckland Part 2
Ex-Noma Copenhagen chef Jacob Kear heads the kitchen at Auckland’s fine-
dining mecca, Clooney. His 12-course tasting menus showcase premium local
produce and his hard-wired knack for foraging.
Dessert-fiends will already know Miann, the outrageously creative place
dedicated to everything sweet. Brian Campbell, one of Auckland’s best dessert
chefs, leads Miann and his trademark creations include gelato on a stick, petit
gaueaux, macarons and bonbons.
An Auckland hotspot with a focus on design is The Shelter. Run by fashion
designer Vicki Taylor, this former laundromat is now a concept store stocked
with the leading fashion and jewellery names in New Zealand and the rest of the
world.
An hour’s drive west of Auckland, you’ll find the Waitakere Ranges Regional
Park, where volcanic black-sand surf beaches and lush bush land meet. Kitekite
Falls is a three-tiered waterfall you can swim at the base of, or canyon down
from the top. It’s a scary but ultimately rewarding way to experience this
majestic part of the world so close to Auckland.
