Taylor Guitar Factory Tour
Watch master craftsmen assemble Taylor Guitars in their state-of-the-art factory complex in El Cajon, California.
Taylor Guitars was founded in 1974 by Bob Taylor and Kurt Lustig and has become one of the premier American luthiers. Taylor has two facilities, one in El Cajon, California, where all of Taylor's fine guitars are made and the other, 40 miles away in Tecate, Mexico, where the 200 series down to the Baby Taylors are made. When you own a Taylor, you join the company of many fine Taylor artists, such as Jason Mraz, Dave Matthews, Neil Young, Taylor Swift, Jewel, Doyle Dykes and many others.
The Ebony Project | Preview Video | Taylor Guitars
The Ebony Project:
In 2011, Taylor Guitars became the co-owner of the Crelicam ebony mill in Cameroon. Thus began a remarkable journey to learn every aspect of the ebony trade, including its impact on the forest ecosystems of Africa’s Congo Basin and the local communities that rely on ebony for their livelihood. In late 2017, we brought a video team to Cameroon to capture stories of the people involved in the ebony trade and our work there. We take viewers to the chaotic capital city of Yaoundé and the Crelicam mill; deep into the African bush where ebony trees are sourced; and into villages where employees and their families live. You’ll come away with a whole new appreciation for the effort that goes into transforming an ebony tree into essential parts for every Taylor guitar made. In this preview, Bob Taylor reflects on the lives Taylor owners are helping to support, along with our work to establish a new model of responsible forestry in Cameroon.
A Guitar is Born - Touring the Taylor Guitar Factory
This HD video was filmed in February 2012 at the Taylor Guitar factory located in El Cajon, California, which is just northeast of San Diego. As of this posting, Taylor Guitars are the number one selling acoustic guitars in the United States, now ahead of the famous Martin brand. As a happy, long-time Taylor guitar owner and fan of the luthier, I always wanted to visit the place where these great guitars are made, so I finally made the pilgrimage.
Bob Taylor started the company in 1974 with business partner Kurt Listug. As of February 2012, Taylor Guitars produces more than 500 guitars a day with 650 employees. Even with its phenomenal growth and its use of hi-tech advancements in guitar making, Taylor has maintained its high standard of craftsmanship.
The music is by Doyle Dykes. Song title: Nothings too Good.

Clemon Charles, Musician talks Taylor guitars and demonstrates
I went guitar shopping at Guitar Center with producer/videographer Angela Elizabeth and while trying out several brands, the Taylor made guitar got my attention. Check it out..
In 1972, at age 18, Bob Taylor began working at American Dream, a guitar making shop owned by Sam Radding, where Kurt Listug was already an employee. When Radding decided to sell the business in 1974, Taylor,[3] Listug, and a third employee, Steve Schemmer, bought American Dream and renamed it the Westland Music Company.[4]
Needing a more compact logo suitable for the guitars' headstock, the founders decided to change the name to Taylor as it sounded more American than Listug. Kurt Listug said, Bob was the real guitar-maker.[5] Listug became the partnership's businessman while Taylor handled design and production. In 1976, the company decided to sell their guitars through retailers. In 1981, facing financial difficulties, Taylor Guitars took out a bank loan to purchase equipment.[6][7]
As of 2012 Taylor Guitars had more than 700 employees in two factories: one in El Cajon, California, and the other in nearby Tecate, Mexico, where the company makes their lower-priced models and guitar cases. In early 2011, the company opened a Taylor distribution warehouse in the Netherlands to serve the European market.[1] In January 2014, the U.S. State Department honored Taylor Guitars with an Award for Corporate Excellence (ACE)[8] citing Taylor's commitment to responsible practices in obtaining ebony for its instruments.
