NETTA JONES SCREENING at Te Ahu Cinema, Kaitaia, New Zealand
In 2014, Rachel Wills (then Morris), wrote a short film about her grandmother, Netta, who was one of 17 children from Awanui in the Far North of the North Island of New Zealand. Netta's father was Welsh, and Netta's mother was of Maori and Croatian descent.
Rachel self funded the film, produced it and made it in beautiful Awanui with local actors, most of who had never acted before. Rachel had the privilege to play her great grandmother, Raiha 'Ma' Jones.
In 2015, 'Netta Jones', premiered at the New Zealand International Film Festival and has screened at various other international film festivals.
This is a short video of the 'Netta Jones' screening at Te Ahu Cinema in Kaitaia. The actors, family, and local community were all invited to attend. Netta Owen (the real Netta Jones) made a special appearance and talked about the way things were around the time of the war when she was young.
A huge thank you to the community and families of Awanui, Kaitaia, Ahipara and all the people who helped make this film possible.
Arohanui,
'Netta Jones' short film team.

After a quick stop for a rest and a bite to eat at McDonalds. I met the person I bought the bike off two years earlier at McDonalds. He recognized the colour, as it is a limited addition colour and there are not very many this colour. It ran in 1994 only, and there where 4 colour sequences in 94… so this one ran for only 3 months of that one year…

What if the pakeha gets to have a Haka, too? It probably will sound like something like this.

An unveiling for esteemed Ngāti Kuri Kuia, Saana Waitai Murray, will take place tomorrow at Spirits Bay in the Far North. Mrs Murray spent most of her life fighting for Māori guardianship of land, culture and tāonga.
