Exploring Te Puna Quarry Park - Bay of Plenty, New Zealand (NORTH ISLAND). | Where's Dayna?
Today we explored Te Puna Quarry Park. I have been on this walk before a long time ago. So, now that I live close by I thought I would take Olly and Cash (dog) out to see what it offers.
This park is located just outside of Te Puna which is a short drive from central Tauranga. This walk is free for anyone to do and is open all day. There is much to see and do here such as viewing the cool environmental arts, sculptures, gardens, palm groves, butterfly gardens and much more. There is plenty of cool areas to have a picnic and bring your kids and dogs (on leads).
A brief history behind the park:
Te Puna Quarry started as a rock quarry back in the 1900's until 1979. The Quarry rocks were used for road works, reclamation, and breakwaters. Over time the quarry operations were ceased. And ten years later the district council starting planting trees - which a society began to grow from then on. The quarry was further developed into a park for the public and this opened in 2000.
Highly recommend this walk. It is not a difficult walk so beginners are very capable.

Mclaren Falls Park - Bay Of Plenty - New Zealand
McLaren Falls, actually multiple cascades, is located on Mangakarengorengo River, a 20 minutes easy drive from Tauranga. Usually, it's a waterfall almost without water because of the Power Generation Station located upstream, but in a rainy season it looks absolutely unbelievable. In warm days lots of people swim in cool water at the base of these waterfalls.

GURU CHEF ROHAN & FAMILY ENJOY MCLAREN FALLS TAURANGA-NORTH ISLAND NZ
A strong man and a waterfall always channel their own path.
A man of meditation simply enjoys the flowers, the birds, the trees, the rain, the sun, the moon, the people.
It is good that we are all engulfed in a mysterious whole.
Life will be utterly boring if every mystery is decoded.
The park borders Lake McLaren, formed behind a dam built for hydro-electricity generation.
The landscape includes parkland and native bush. McLaren Falls has a fine botanical collection
of trees and a range of birdlife, including the North Island brown kiwi, North Island robin
and long-tailed cuckoo. The park has accommodation, with camping on any open, grassed area, except Cherry Bay,and three hostels. Trout fishing is permitted year round in the lake and nearby Ruahihi Canal
with a licence. An animal park adjoins McLaren Falls Park.

Christmas feels like July - New Zealand, Southern Hemisphere
In the Southern Hemisphere, seasons are in reverse to the Northern Hemisphere, with summer falling in December, January, and February, and with winter falling in June, July, and August. Therefore, in some southern hemisphere countries like New Zealand it feels like Christmas in July.
The hole family went on a little walk after we open our Christmas gifts...for me it feel very strange to have charismas in the summer time.

Calling All Cars: Disappearing Scar / Cinder Dick / The Man Who Lost His Face
The radio show Calling All Cars hired LAPD radio dispacher Jesse Rosenquist to be the voice of the dispatcher. Rosenquist was already famous because home radios could tune into early police radio frequencies. As the first police radio dispatcher presented to the public ear, his was the voice that actors went to when called upon for a radio dispatcher role.
The iconic television series Dragnet, with LAPD Detective Joe Friday as the primary character, was the first major media representation of the department. Real LAPD operations inspired Jack Webb to create the series and close cooperation with department officers let him make it as realistic as possible, including authentic police equipment and sound recording on-site at the police station.
Due to Dragnet's popularity, LAPD Chief Parker became, after J. Edgar Hoover, the most well known and respected law enforcement official in the nation. In the 1960s, when the LAPD under Chief Thomas Reddin expanded its community relations division and began efforts to reach out to the African-American community, Dragnet followed suit with more emphasis on internal affairs and community policing than solving crimes, the show's previous mainstay.
Several prominent representations of the LAPD and its officers in television and film include Adam-12, Blue Streak, Blue Thunder, Boomtown, The Closer, Colors, Crash, Columbo, Dark Blue, Die Hard, End of Watch, Heat, Hollywood Homicide, Hunter, Internal Affairs, Jackie Brown, L.A. Confidential, Lakeview Terrace, Law & Order: Los Angeles, Life, Numb3rs, The Shield, Southland, Speed, Street Kings, SWAT, Training Day and the Lethal Weapon, Rush Hour and Terminator film series. The LAPD is also featured in the video games Midnight Club II, Midnight Club: Los Angeles, L.A. Noire and Call of Juarez: The Cartel.
The LAPD has also been the subject of numerous novels. Elizabeth Linington used the department as her backdrop in three different series written under three different names, perhaps the most popular being those novel featuring Det. Lt. Luis Mendoza, who was introduced in the Edgar-nominated Case Pending. Joseph Wambaugh, the son of a Pittsburgh policeman, spent fourteen years in the department, using his background to write novels with authentic fictional depictions of life in the LAPD. Wambaugh also created the Emmy-winning TV anthology series Police Story. Wambaugh was also a major influence on James Ellroy, who wrote several novels about the Department set during the 1940s and 1950s, the most famous of which are probably The Black Dahlia, fictionalizing the LAPD's most famous cold case, and L.A. Confidential, which was made into a film of the same name. Both the novel and the film chronicled mass-murder and corruption inside and outside the force during the Parker era. Critic Roger Ebert indicates that the film's characters (from the 1950s) represent the choices ahead for the LAPD: assisting Hollywood limelight, aggressive policing with relaxed ethics, and a straight arrow approach.
