Hansen Lemon tree blessing. Waimate North Mission 28 Dec 14
Te Waimate Mission House, built in 1832, is the only survivor of three mission houses founded in 1830 on behalf of the Church Missionary Society by the Reverend Samuel Marsden with the agreement of local Ngāpuhi. On 28 December 2014, Anglican Bishops Bay & Kito, local Rev Sarah, and Rev Samuel Marsden (UK) held the Sunday Church service at the St John the Baptist church (built 1871) and then went next door to the Mission House gardens to bless the Hansen Lemon tree that was planted. The New Zealand folk song/carol for Christmas Te Hariunui was then sung. (Written in 1957 by Willow Macky)
This lemon tree was propagated from what is believed to be the oldest introduced fruit tree into New Zealand - the lemon tree located at Oihi, Bay of Islands. The name Hansen Lemon is in recognition of Thomas Hansen, New Zealand’s first non-missionary settler, who had also arrived in 1814, and assisted in the development of the mission station

But that's where the light gets in, and that's where the resurrection is and that's where the return is, that's where the repentance is. It is with the confrontation with the brokenness of things. - Leonard Cohen

Missionaries and muskets at Kerikeri - Roadside Stories
In the 1820s the Kerikeri mission station was under the protection of Hongi Hika and the Ngāpuhi tribe. Hongi had encouraged the establishment of the mission - largely because he wanted access to muskets, which gave Ngāpuhi a great military advantage over other tribes. Today the 1822 mission house is New Zealand's oldest building.

Top 3 Attractions in Kerikeri, Bay of Island New Zealand
The Rainbow Falls, Māori name Waianiwaniwa, are a single-drop waterfall located on the Kerikeri River near Kerikeri in New Zealand. Unlike most New Zealand waterfalls which are created by the erosion of soft rock, the Rainbow Falls are sited on a hard basalt layer of rock beside softer mudstone.
Rewa’s Village is a full scale replica of a pre – European Māori fishing village.
Meander around the village, imagining a time before European settlement.
Walk through our native bush and experience the serenity of native bird sounds.
Listen to the tranquil waters of “Te Awa o Ngā Rangatira” river (the river of chiefs) and enjoy the picturesque surroundings of the Kerikeri Basin
The Stone Store, a former storehouse, is the oldest stone building in New Zealand, construction having begun on 19 April 1832. The keystone above the door bearing the date 1833 is thought to have been carved by the stonemason William Parrott who cut the Sydney sandstone in situ, but construction of the building was not actually completed until mid-1836.
Stone was used because the missionaries needed a vermin-free, fireproof area for their supplies and provisions, and for improved security from inquisitive Māori. There was a plan to build a mill where the bridge exists now, and to protect the flour produced from locally grown wheat in the store. But the mill was never built, and the millstones brought out from England went inland to Waimate North instead.
Originally called the Mission House, and then for more than 100 years Kemp House, but now again called Mission House, this is the oldest wooden structure still standing in New Zealand. A much visited and photographed building, it is administered along with the Stone Store by Heritage New Zealand

45 Molloys Road, Waimate NEW
ONE OF WAIMATE'S FINEST
As we enter 45 Molloys Road, following the sealed driveway, we can see the quality of this property right from the start. The three vehicle carport plus single garage, with upstairs storage and toilet are an example of the thought that has gone into future proofing this property. When you enter this 4 bedroom home through the inviting entrance you can see it has been designed for the northern aspect and to take advantage of the sun and mountain views. Picture sitting back and relaxing in the spacious living areas, or enjoying the BBQ and relax by the in- ground heated swimming pool. Or to thoroughly spoil yourself after a long day at work sink into the luxurious spa bath.
The home is centrally heated with diesel underfloor heating and includes ducted air conditioning and heat pumps to ensure cosy living.
The location of this home is the key being only a 40 km drive to Timaru or Oamaru. That equates to approximately 30 minutes by car depending on your speed.
Both of these towns have strong employment opportunities including Freezing Companies and the Timaru Port. The Dairy industry is flourishing in the area with the Fonterra site at Studholme and the Oceania plant at Glenavy both with extensive expansion plans.
This small farm is fully deer fenced and has a very good water well so could be irrigated to capture the full benefits of the property.
Charm, location, and convenience, this is why Waimate could be your place to live! Why Waimate, Why Not!!!

Rangihoua marks the birth of Christianity in NZ
It’s said that Rev Samuel Marsden held Aotearoa’s first sermon 200 years ago at Rangihoua, and yesterday people of Northland gathered at the site to mark the special occasion that saw the birth of Christianity in this country.
