Alvaro Castagnet is one of the world’s most highly respected watercolor artists, and he's back for another episode with Colour In Your Life!
Alvaro Castagnet was born in Montevideo, in the beautiful South American country of Uruguay. His early interest in art was cultivated mainly by his father, who sent him to the National School of Art in Montevideo at a very young age where he was taught by Professor Esteban Garino. Castagnet carried on his formal education in art at the Fine Arts University, where Miguel Angel Pareja was his oil painting tutor.
Alvaro Castagnet migrated to Australia in 1983, and lived there enjoying the cosmopolitan and forward-looking attitude of that country for 20 years. Alvaro Castagnet is fluent in Spanish, Italian, and English and currently lives in Montevideo, Uruguay. Castagnet has been holding solo exhibitions since 1985, and has been recognised with dozens of awards over the last 30 years.
Alvaro Castagnet writes articles for many international artist publications worldwide. Alvaro travels around the world, painting, demonstrating, lecturing, and judging art competitions also guest-attending exhibitions of his work. He is the author of the out-of-print, “Watercolor Painting with Passion” & “Painting with Passion – Beyond Technique” books. Alvaro is featured in innumerable art books, videos, DVDs and acclaimed international art publications.His main studio is located in Montevideo, Uruguay. He lives with his wife, Ana Maria & their teenagers sons, Gaston & Calvin.
Alvaro Castagnet is in constant demand for solo exhibitions, workshops and instruction. His expert eye is highly sought after as a juror of prestigious art shows. The art of Alvaro Castagnet captures the very soul of his subjects with passion, boldness and elegance.
His paintings are imbued with a mood, a mystery that engage and lure the viewer into the magic. He is an expressive painter. He exhibits a strong, impressive and colorful style with superb interpretation of light effects that capture the soul of places he paints.
Alvaro Castagnet is the winner of numerous esteemed national and international painting awards from such prestigious organizations as the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society (USA), and the Shanghai Zhujiajiao International Watercolour Biennial Award , 2010.

The Colour In Your Life TV series is an art show that takes you into the everyday studios of artists from around the world. While in the studio they share their individual techniques with the viewer in a relaxed atmosphere with a delightfully Australian host and fellow artist Graeme Stevenson. AURELA CUKU, Artissima Art Gallery co-founder speaks to WILLIAM FARIA
Dubai’s first ‘Latino Art Fest’(LAF) a must-visit event for arts and culture enthusiasts, will showcase the best of Latin art, culture and entertainment.
Aurela Cuku, the managing partner and co-founder of Artissima Art Gallery, explains that the avant-garde atmosphere of the streets of Al Quoz and Artissima Gallery will host an exuberant display of art, regional cuisines and live entertainment from a number of Latin American countries and Spain.
The much awaited fest takes place on Friday, 30 January from 7 pm to 11 pm and is considered to be the largest Latino Fiesta to be held in the UAE for the first time ever.
She said that the LAF 2015, will stretch through all the way on 8th Street to Artissima Gallery in Al Quoz.
LAF visitors will enjoy fascinating music performances by Latin-American and Spanish artists, offering a unique street-feel experience for UAE residents.
“We are proud to bring the first major celebration of Latin art and culture to the heart of Dubai, transforming the streets into a Carnival of Latin art and culture, says Maria Urrutia, founder of the All Quoz Project.
As a highlight of the festival, Artissima Gallery will feature a new commission and the first solo exhibition in the Middle East of British multi-award winning fine art photographer, Tariq Zaidi: “Latinos in the UAE”. The exhibition will remain open to the public until February 13, 2015.
Artissima Art Gallery emerged as a result of the owners exploring the world and being inspired by the history, culture, traditions, heritage and art of the countries they visited.
With an extensive portfolio of artists globally and a dynamic local presence in all the cities within the UAE. The gallery showcases exclusive works of artists from the USA, Mexico, South America, Europe and Asia to the local and regional audience with an aim to create an awareness and appreciation of the talent the Middle Eastern artists.
Aurela said “Burt Alfieri, my partner, and I have been researching and collecting arts and handcrafts from Latin Countries from 15 years. Burt Alfieri is a pioneer in the region; he started to bring Mexican food 40 years ago, and building his brand of Senor Pepe’s Mexican Foods. We are happy to be part of the first largest Latino Art fest in Dubai, which fits perfectly with what we are doing.
The LAF is organized by All Quoz Project is a non-for-profit group of volunteers. It is a community project to help inspire those living in Al Quoz through public art. They envision a neighborhood where a record of the local and regional artists is permanently marked in the public landscape.
Sponsored by ART UAE, that was established in 1971 as an independent organization to serve individual artists throughout the state, the mission of ART UAE Foundation for the Arts , is to empower emerging artists and arts organizations.
It takes a major part in the region among GCC countries and India. LAF is part of the exciting line-up of events and activities of the milestone 20th edition of Dubai Shopping Festival organized by the Dubai Festivals & Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).
LAF is supported by Artissima Gallery, Bailame Cuba, Easy Dance, BNF, Bazar Latino, Latinos en los Emiratos Arabes Unidos, El Correo del Golfo and the following Embassies and Consulates in the UAE: Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Dr Ximena Cordova, LAF Project Manager, said, We hope it will serve to strengthen the ties between the 50,000+ strong community of Latinos living in the UAE and our hosts, and to bring up to date the ancient history of links between Arabic and Hispanic culture, thus highlighting the role of Dubai as a major site in contemporary global culture.

Melilla (Spanish pronunciation: [meˈliʎa]; Berber: Mřič (Mritch); Arabic: مليلية, Maliliyyah) is a Spanish-administered city and an exclave located on the north coast of Africa, sharing a border with Morocco with an area of 12.3 square kilometres (4.7 sq mi). Melilla, along with Ceuta, is one of two permanently inhabited Spanish-administered cities in mainland Africa. It was part of Málaga province until 14 March 1995, when the city's Statute of Autonomy was passed.
Melilla, like Ceuta, was a free port before Spain joined the European Union. As of 2011, it had a population of 78,476 made up of ethnic Spaniards, ethnic Riffian Berbers, and a small number of ethnic Spanish Jews. Both Spanish and Riffian-Berber are the two most widely spoken languages, with Spanish as the only official language.

¡vamo y vamo!, el noticiero de las buenas noticias presenta La buena del fin de semana, un espacio que desarrolla periodismo para mostrar las buenas iniciativas de grupos de personas en Maldonado.
El fin de semana del 9 y 10 de Abril pasado el Distrito de Arte Urbano de Punta del Este desarrolló su segundo encuentro de grafiteros de Maldonado y la región.
La actividad reunió a más de 50 artistas que pintaron magníficas obras de arte en los muros de la reductora de UTE de la parada 3.
¿Qué mueve a éste grupo a generar actividades inclusivas con un arte que hasta hace muy poco era criminalizado? ¿De qué se trató el encuentro? ¿Quiénes podían participar?
Hoy en La buena del fin de semana un proyecto de revalorización del espacio urbano y promoción de la convivencia por intermedio del arte.

Generator is Dublin Community Televisions (DCTV) newest magazine arts show supported by the BAI's Sound and Vision scheme. The show will be taking an in-depth look at the contemporary arts scene in Dublin and how it has flourished over the past four years despite the recession. The show will be aimed at artists, arts workers, and those with an interest in the visual arts.
This week we feature wood sculptor and crafts person Ronan Lynch, we visit Loom Studios in the Hedrons Building and chat with Natalie Anderson and Alan Fitzpatrick. Finally this weeks profile from the Generator exhibition is Maria Dolorosa De La Cruz.
