*Sassafras Tree* +Psychedelic Hallucinogen Snap+Civil War Drug+
Sassafras albidum. There are many references in books and the internet noting that Sassafras was given to wounded soldiers during the Civil War to reduce their pain during amputatiion operations on wounded limbs. In the South there was a common practice to use sassafras tea as an anesthetic or herbal treatment for lung problems, especially asthma and as a general resistance drug to flu and colds during the winter time. Officials in government are considering banning the sale of sassafras plants and trees because of the hallucinogenic effects and possible Psychedelic damage to organs.

How to Identify Sassafras
Here is a video on how to identify sassafras. Makes an awesome tea and smells wonderful. Sassafras is one-of-a-kind. There is nothing else that has all the identity markers like it (one plant has 3 types of leaves, single lobe, bilobe (looks like a mitten), and trilobated leaves).
Sassafrass tea
Sassafras tea taste very good, however page 210 of Peterson's Field Guide for Edible Wild Plants (Eastern/Central North America) gives a warning that sassafras has recently been proven to contain a chemical that causes cancer in lab test animals. So I encourage anyone who regularly consumes sassafras tea to conduct some sort of research before continuing to use sassafras.

Flora Fridays: Sycamore fig | Ficus sycomorus
Instructor Mike Anderson teaches us about the Sycamore fig (Scientific name: Ficus sycomorus) in this week's Flora Friday video.
These really huge trees with their wide-spreading crowns are often found near rivers and are easy to identify with their yellow/green colour.
These trees support a huge range of animal life such as many fruit-eating birds, fruit-eating bats and even a large majority of the mammal species, including elephant, giraffe, kudu, nyala, bushbuck, impala, duiker, bushpigs, warthogs, baboons, monkeys and bushbabies.
But the most important creature to benefit from this beautiful tree is the Fig Wasp (hence the name). This is a fascinating relationship, as every fig tree species has a wasp species that only pollinates that tree species. When the figs become ripe, the wasps are attracted to the figs by the chemical 'smell' the figs release. Figs and fig wasps have a unique symbiotic relationship that is essential to their mutual survival, the fig tree provides a home for the wasps and the wasps, in turn, provide the pollen that the fruit needs to ripen.
The figs are commonly eaten raw or dried for later use. In Namibia, fermented fruits are distilled to make an alcoholic drink and in Egypt, the bark is used for timber. The leaves are a valuable food in overstocked, semi-arid areas, where the tree occurs naturally. The latex sap or bark extracts can be drunk for chest complaints, glandular problems, pharyngitis and even diarrhoea. The powder of the bark can be used to sprinkle on burns.
Fruit infusions are drunk for tuberculosis; how to do this? Take two handfuls of bark that has been boiled (in 3 cups of water) once it is boiling inhale the water vapour.
One very common use is using a piece of dry wood as the base block when making fire, (by means of the friction method). The softwood is good for making drums, and a strong rope can be made from the inner bark.

Herbs, Roots & Resins - Chamomile
Chamomile is a perennial herb that's native to western Europe and Asia. Used for thousands of years as a traditional medicine, Chamomile is effective as a sleep aid and anti-inflammatory medicine. It serves other purposes as well uses such as relieving asthma and as a skin disease medicine. It can even soothe your sore muscles if used in a skin balm.
In terms of culinary uses, there really just aren't many for Chamomile but can be made into butter or a sour cream for your baked potatoes and it makes for a great relaxing night time tea and can settle just about any upset stomach.
In magical work, Chamomile is considered to be lucky and is most commonly used in money drawing and gambling luck spells. If you want to draw money to you, you can place a few of the golden coin shaped Chamomile buds in your wallet. To draw luck to you when you gamble, you can make a simple hand wash by adding some of the buds to a jar of water. Before you go out to gamble, simply rub some of this on your hands.
So if you can't sleep, have aching muscles or are wanting to try your luck at the casino, give Chamomile a try.

Australia is short of mountains, and the nearest mountain in Melbourne is the Dandy Mountain. Although the mountain is not high, the mountain vegetation is very good. There are many towns on both sides of the road on the mountain. Every house in the town is very well dressed, and all kinds of plants are blooming. In the spring, take a look at Sassafras Dandenong on the mountain.
