花桥吴淞江水岸整体规划昆山中国
国际競图首奖/First Place, Invited International Competition, 2009, OJANEN CHIOU architects LLP with SWA Group Sausalito and Herrera Environmental Consultants
Project Area: 955,000 square meter; Building Area: 100,000 square meter; Mixed Use: Open Space, Convention Center, Hotel, Commercial Retail and Office.
In 2008, the competition host, Huaqiao International Service Business Park, called for ideas for a new 955,000sm waterfront district at a key oxbow portion of the Wusong River in order to support the area's bustling economy while creating public amenities and open space. Decades of industrial development along the river have resulted in a legacy of polluted water and a decimated riparian habitat. The winning scheme by SWA Group, in conjunction with Herrera Environmental Consultants and Ojanen Chiou Architects, proposes a localized bioremediation program to improve the river water quality to a level that meets basic safety standards, and help restore the local ecology. Per SWA's master plan, a wetland treatment park will be situated upstream from the main development zone where water will be channeled through a series of pools for purification, then discharged to an inner bay. The bay will be encompassed by recreation areas such as beaches, trails, gardens, plazas and fountains, a riparian edge for wildlife habitat, and a series of commercial buildings that will include the Forum, hotel and villas. As the centerpiece of the entire development, the Forum & Hotel complex designed by Ojanen Chiou Architects seeks to exemplify the adaptive, ecological spirit and philosophy of the new Huaqiao Business Park while retaining a strong connection to local culture and traditions.
-- 开发和水质改良并进,在提供以人为本的便利条件的同时创建健康的生态环境;
-- 综合多层次的体验,让社区可以最大程度地利用和享受水滨;
-- 维持适当的建筑体量,保护开放空间,提供分期建设的灵活性;

Recently there has been much debate on the pros and cons of accepting a large number of foreign workers to accommodate growing labor shortages attributed to Japan’s low birth rates and aging of society.
In a September 5, 2018, SEIRON column, I noted that there is a potential workforce of nearly 16 million Japanese, including the disabled and hikikomori (socially withdrawn youths), who have found it difficult to work, even as the Abe administration seeks to realize the “Dynamic Engagement of All Citizens.” Ensuring these diverse people have job opportunities in Japanese society is a key task that should be promptly addressed.

San Francisco (SF; ; Spanish for 'Saint Francis'; Spanish: [ˈsãɱ fɾãnˈsisko]), officially the City and County of San Francisco, is the cultural, commercial, and financial center of Northern California. San Francisco is the 13th most populous city in the United States, and the 4th most populous in California, with 884,363 residents as of 2017. It covers an area of about 46.89 square miles (121.4 km2), mostly at the north end of the San Francisco Peninsula in the San Francisco Bay Area, making it the second most densely populated large US city, and the fifth most densely populated U.S. county, behind only four of the five New York City boroughs. San Francisco is also part of the fifth most populous primary statistical area in the United States, the San Jose–San Francisco–Oakland, CA Combined Statistical Area (8.8 million residents).
As of 2017, it was the 7th highest-income county in the United States, with a per capita personal income of $119,868. The San Francisco CSA was the country's 3rd largest urban economy as of 2017, with a GDP of $878 billion. Of the 574 primary statistical areas in the US, the San Francisco CSA had the highest GDP per capita in 2017, at $99,347 per capita. San Francisco was ranked 14th in the world and third in the United States on the Global Financial Centres Index as of September 2018.San Francisco was founded on June 29, 1776, when colonists from Spain established Presidio of San Francisco at the Golden Gate and Mission San Francisco de Asís a few miles away, all named for St. Francis of Assisi. The California Gold Rush of 1849 brought rapid growth, making it the largest city on the West Coast at the time. San Francisco became a consolidated city-county in 1856. San Francisco's status as the West Coast's largest city peaked between 1870 and 1900, when around 25% of California's population resided in the city. After three-quarters of the city was destroyed by the 1906 earthquake and fire, San Francisco was quickly rebuilt, hosting the Panama-Pacific International Exposition nine years later. In World War II, San Francisco was a major port of embarkation for service members shipping out to the Pacific Theater. It then became the birthplace of the United Nations in 1945. After the war, the confluence of returning servicemen, significant immigration, liberalizing attitudes, along with the rise of the hippie counterculture, the Sexual Revolution, the Peace Movement growing from opposition to United States involvement in the Vietnam War, and other factors led to the Summer of Love and the gay rights movement, cementing San Francisco as a center of liberal activism in the United States. Politically, the city votes strongly along liberal Democratic Party lines.
A popular tourist destination, San Francisco is known for its cool summers, fog, steep rolling hills, eclectic mix of architecture, and landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, the former Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary, Fisherman's Wharf, and its Chinatown district. San Francisco is also the headquarters of five major banking institutions and various other companies such as Levi Strauss & Co., Gap Inc., Fitbit, Salesforce.com, Dropbox, Reddit, Square, Inc., Dolby, Airbnb, Weebly, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Yelp, Pinterest, Twitter, Uber, Lyft, Mozilla, Wikimedia Foundation, Craigslist, and Weather Underground. It is home to a number of educational and cultural institutions, such as the University of San Francisco (USF), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), San Francisco State University (SFSU), the De Young Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the California Academy of Sciences.
As of 2018, San Francisco is the highest rated American city on world liveability rankings.

Duke University is a private research university in Durham, North Carolina. Founded by Methodists and Quakers in the present-day town of Trinity in 1838, the school moved to Durham in 1892. In 1924, tobacco and electric power industrialist James Buchanan Duke established The Duke Endowment and the institution changed its name to honor his deceased father, Washington Duke.
Duke's campus spans over 8,600 acres (3,500 hectares) on three contiguous campuses in Durham as well as a marine lab in Beaufort. The main campus—designed largely by architect Julian Abele—incorporates Gothic architecture with the 210-foot (64-meter) Duke Chapel at the campus' center and highest point of elevation. The first-year-populated East Campus contains Georgian-style architecture, while the main Gothic-style West Campus 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) away is adjacent to the Medical Center. The university runs two concurrent universities in Asia, Duke Kunshan University in Kunshan, China, and Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore.
Duke is ranked 8th in the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Ranking and 22nd in the U.S. News & World Report Best Global University Ranking. In 2017, Forbes lists Duke among the top ten universities to produce the most Forbes 400 billionaires. In a corporate study carried out by The New York Times, Duke's graduates were shown to be among the most sought-after and valued in the world, and Forbes magazine ranked Duke 7th in the world on its list of 'power factories'.As of 2018, 13 Nobel laureates and 3 Turing Award winners have been affiliated with the university. Further, Duke alumni include 40 Rhodes Scholars and 25 Churchill Scholars. The university has produced the 5th highest number of Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Goldwater, and Udall Scholars of any American university between 1986 and 2015. In 2018, the Wall Street Journal ranked Duke first (tied with Harvard and Yale) for graduate outcomes. As of 2018, Duke also holds a top-ten position in several national rankings.
