Flying over Barcelona! Teleferic Montjuic Cable Car - Catalonia, Spain
Flying over Barcelona.
The Montjuïc Cable Car (Spanish: Teleférico de Montjuïc, Catalan: Telefèric de Montjuïc) is a gondola lift in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The cable car runs from a lower terminus adjacent to the Montjuïc Park upper station of the Montjuïc funicular, and climbs higher up the Montjuïc hill to a terminal near the Montjuïc Castle on the summit of the hill
The cable car is run by the TMB - Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona - the Barcelona public transport company.
The Montjuïc Telefèric Cable Car has three stations:
The Parc de Montjuïc - next to the Funicular de Montjuïc Station.
- The Mirador - this stop is only included on the return journey but it offers fantastic views of the city and is only 15 minutes from the Telefèric del Port.
- The Castle - from here you can visit the Castell de Montjuï

Barcelona: Montjuic Cable Car 1
Well, here we are at the Teleferic, waiting to go to Montjuic, I think that's the pronunciation, and it's taken us an hour waiting in the queue to get here. And we're at the top of the tower, and we are off!
As you see, if I sweep round, it's quite crowded in here. And we're off.
If I come in, you'll see the Tower of Columbus
You can see the new bridge and walkway that runs from near the Columbus Tower to a huge shopping mall. Notice you can't get from there to the Teleferic station of Barcelona.
This is the cruise terminal.
This cable car was built for the 1929 Exhibition.
You used to be able to stop here, so you could have a walk round, but this tower is now closed, so you can't come up. Pity,
Anyway, here we are. Oh, bit of a bump there. Well, we're going towards the edge here -' I think it's coming off the rails, we're all going to die! Oh no, my mistake, we're safe, I think.'
However, it is quite a long way down there.
Now there are the aptly called three chimneys. They used to be part of a factory, they left them up. They look like one from here, but you'll have to take my word for it, there are three.
Here's Barcelona, and up there, there's another tower, built by Norman Foster.
Down here the yellow vans of the Post or Correos - yellow seems to be the colour, Germany has yellow as well, I like the horn on the German ones.
Well, here is the Hotel Miramar, and the final station Mirador. The castle is up there, you might just be able to see the tower on the left.
Anyway, that was it, 1.3 km, quite a thrill, really. Helen's snapping away frantically, I'll close now and show you the view - the famous view - from the top.
Well, there goes the cable car, and we're near the door...actually, we're at the Mirador Restaurant, because I fancied a 'bocadillo con queso' and a drink.
It's quite pleasant here, not crowded either and catered by mandarin chineses, we makes me feel a bit at home. Here's a sweep round.
We're sitting on the sea side, for which you pay approximately one euro more a dish for the privilege of not sitting overlooking the city.
Well, there we are. A worthwhile experience, but watch out for those queues. I was told that it opens at eleven, and that's a good time to go because there are no people there.

Top tip - if you're scared of heights, probably best not to get on a cable car. Also, if you show weakness, expect your dad to exploit it.

The Montjuïc Cable Car is a gondola lift in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The cable car runs from a lower terminus adjacent to the Montjuïc Park upper station of the Montjuïc funicular, and climbs higher up the Montjuïc hill to a terminal near the Montjuïc Castle on the summit of the hill. At its midpoint, the line executes a 90 degree turn and the cabins pass through Mirador station, although only down-bound cabins stop at this point.
The cable car was originally put into service in 1970, replacing a former upper stage of the Montjuïc funicular. As built, it used a fleet of open cars. It was closed between October 2004 and May 2007, for a complete overhaul in order to increase capacity. At the same time the open cars were replaced by 55 new closed cabins.
The cable car line is 752 m (2,467 ft) in length, and climbs a vertical distance of 84.55 m (277.4 ft) at a speed of 2.5 m/s (8.2 ft/s). The cars slow to a crawl as they pass through the station to allow passengers to board or exit. Two cars are equipped with the facility to carry wheelchairs. The line is operated by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) but, unlike the Montjuïc funicular, it is not part of Autoritat del Transport Metropolità (ATM) integrated fare network. Separate tickets must be purchased prior to boarding. Access to the castle is also available from the top funicular station via the 150 bus which is included in the ATM integrated fare network.
The Montjuïc Cable Car should not be confused with the Port Vell Aerial Tramway, which crosses Port Vell, Barcelona's old harbour, and connects the Montjuïc hill with the seaside suburb of Barceloneta.
( Barcelona - Spain ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Barcelona . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Barcelona - Spain

Barcelona: Montjuic Cable Car 2
This is the second half of our cable car trip to Montjuic Castle in Barcelona. Having crossed high above the harbour, and enjoyed lunch in the restaurant at the Teleferic station, we walked up to the next one and took the smaller cable car up to the Castle itself:
Well, we're now inside the Teleferic, going up from halfway up Montjuic to the Castle.
I don't know if you can see this, the windows are extremely dirty.
There's only two of us in this. It costs eleven dollars, sorry, euros fifty return. Now you can walk down - I wouldn't suggest walking up - through gardens, but it's not a short distance.
Ooh, a bit bumpy!
Now halfway along, there seems to be some kind of dog-leg, but we'll see when we get there!
Now the sun's behind us - we arranged that...and you may be able to see, if I can get past Helen, Barcelona spread out below.
(Pass her quickly so the focus doesn't change)
The first station is called 'Mirador'. In fact there are an awful lot of things called 'Mirador' or 'Miramar' round here.
This is the way you'd walk down, it would be quite pleasant in the Spring or the Winter, I think, but it's pretty hot here although not as hot, apparently, as it has been earlier in the Summer. Even the Barcelonians say it was too hot, so there you are.
There are roads up here, so if you had a car, you could drive.
(Bumps)Ooh, sorry about that!
Here's our right-angled turn, and it now appears we don't get off on the way up.
We'll soon find out, because it's quite clear, the guy in front didn't, you don't get off here, except on the way down.
Well, there's a big tour bus, over there, on the way down.
Oh, here we go again, and it's a bit bumpy!
Now we've turned right, so the view ahead is not so good. I'll get up and see if I can get closer. There's the castle coming up.
Just as I get up Helen gets up, because she's seen the nice shots as well.
Well, this is it, and here, Ladies and Gentlemen, is Barcelona.
