Fernsehturm Stuttgart is a 216.61 m telecommunications tower in Stuttgart, Germany. It was the first telecommunications tower in the world constructed from reinforced concrete, and it is the prototype for many such towers worldwide. Although controversial at first, it quickly became a well known landmark of Stuttgart and a tourist attraction.

The tower is located on the hill Hoher Bopser (elevation 483 meters) in the southern Stuttgart borough of Degerloch. From the observation decks there is a view of Stuttgart, from the forests and vineyards in and around Stuttgart to the Swabian Jura and the Black Forest.

The tower's construction was controversial – critics opposed the new building method and its costs; a simple 200-meter antenna array would have cost just 200,000 DM. Construction began on 10 January 1954 and continued for 20 months. This made it the first telecom tower in the world built with reinforced concrete. The construction cost was 4.2 million DM. Revenues from visitors reached that sum within five years. The tower was placed in service on 5 February 1956 by Süddeutscher Rundfunk (today Südwestrundfunk – SWR). The tower reached its current height of 216.61 m (710.7 ft) after the antenna was extended from October 1965 to December 1965.

The tower is still known as Fernsehturm but today only broadcasts several public FM radio stations. Transmission of the ARD TV network's analogue service stopped in 2006. The digital television services have moved to nearby Fernmeldeturm Stuttgart, which also broadcasts private FM radio stations in the area.

In February 1956, a television tower began operation in Stuttgart, Germany, the first to be made of concrete.
At 217 meters high, the tower is a great feat of creation designed by Stuttgart native, Professor Fritz Leonhardt.
The tower was intended to be profoundly aesthetic, as well as to provide visitors with a stunning view of the landscape from 150 meters high.
Looking out from the observation deck, visitors can view Stuttgart's vast forests and numerous lush vineyards.
Visitors can also dine at the Panorama Cafe while taking in Stuttgart's scenery.
When the sky is clear the Swiss, German, and Austrian Alps become visible, creating a majestic and unique skyline.

Der Stuttgarter Fernsehturm ist ein 216,6 Meter hoher Fernmelde- und Aussichtsturm (seit 27. März 2013 geschlossen) in der baden-württembergischen Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart. Der 1956 eröffnete Turm wurde zum Wahrzeichen der Stadt und stellt baulich wie architektonisch den Beginn einer neuen Ära im Turmbau dar, da er als erster seiner Art aus Stahlbeton besteht, einen vom Schaft auskragenden Korb unterhalb der Antenne besitzt und in vertikaler Kragarmbauweise errichtet wurde.[1]

Neben der baulichen Innovation war die erfolgreiche wirtschaftliche Nutzung eines Restaurationsbetriebes und einer Aussichtsplattform Wegbereiter für eine weltweite Turmbauwelle. Er wurde zum Symbol des Süddeutschen Rundfunks, der sich als Betreiber und Eigentümer verantwortlich zeigte. Aufgrund seiner herausragenden baulichen Bedeutung erhielt er bereits 1959 einen Architekturpreis und 2009 den von der Bundesingenieurkammer verliehenen Titel Historisches Wahrzeichen der Ingenieurbaukunst in Deutschland. Zudem ist er 1986 in die Liste der Kulturdenkmäler aufgenommen worden.

Heute bin ich mal wieder am Fernsehturm in Stuttgart Degerloch vorbeigefahren. In meinem Video seht ihr den Fernsehturm, der übrigens dem SWR gehört, mit dem Shop, Biergarten und Restaurant.

In Video erkläre ich euch wie ihr dorthin Fahrt, wo ihr parken könnt und welche Öffnungszeiten der Fernsehturm in Stuttgart hat.

The Florianturm is a telecommunications tower and landmark of Dortmund. It is named after St. Florian, the patron saint of gardeners. The Florianturm is the TV tower of Dortmund and was built in 1959 as an attraction for a federal horticultural show with a height of 219.6 metres (720 ft). At the time it was briefly the highest freestanding structure in Germany.

The tower was constructed similarly to a high concrete chimney. It consists of a reinforced concrete tube, which tapers off as it rises, reaching a height of 129.75 metres (425.7 ft). At 130.6 metres (428 ft) there is a building part with two floors. On the lower floor there are operation rooms and on the upper floor at 137.54 metres (451.2 ft) there is a revolving restaurant. At 141.88 metres (465.5 ft) and 144.7 metres (475 ft) there are two observation decks. On the upper observation deck there are installations and aerials of Deutsche Telekom. Since 1959 it has been used for transmitting television signals.

On 7 September 2004, a Russian helicopter was used to replace the aerial. Since then, a 50-kilowatt transmitter has transmitted digital terrestrial television programmes for the Dortmund area.
Since 7 September 2004, the Florianturm has a height of 208.56 metres (684.3 ft), making it the fourteenth highest structure in Germany.

From 1996 to 1998, the tower was renovated and safety standards were brought up to date. In 2000, a catwalk for bungee jumping was opened on the upper platform. It was closed in 2003 after a fatal accident and has been uninstalled in July 2008.

Worlds First TV Tower, Stuttgart Germany Presented By Travel Binge

Here you have the worlds first TV tower of its kind that inspired all future TV towers. At 217 meters tall, the view from the top is very stunning and windy for that matter. Simply take the U7 line to Ruhbank and it is a short 8 min walk to the Tower and only 8 euro to enter. This Tower was previously closed for 3 years due to safety concerns over fire issues. Thankfully no issues on my visit. Once up top you can feel the tower sway in the wind.
