Abydos Nile River Valley
Once the cult center of Osiris, god of the dead, this was considered the holiest of Egyptian towns in Pharaonic times. Today this area contains the Cenotaph Temple of Seti I, one of the most intact temples remaining in Egypt that was built between 1294-1279 BC.

EGYPT: Luxor Temple
Luxor Temple is a large Ancient Egyptian temple complex located on the east bank of the Nile River in the city today known as Luxor (ancient Thebes). It was constructed approximately 1400 BCE.
Unlike the other temples in Luxor, Luxor temple is not dedicated to a cult god or a deified version of the king in death. Instead Luxor temple is dedicated to the rejuvenation of kingship; it may have been where many of the kings of Egypt were crowned.
To the rear of the temple are chapels built by Amenhotep III of the 18th Dynasty, and Alexander. Other parts of the temple were built by Tutankhamun and Ramesses II. During the Roman era, the temple and its surroundings were a legionary fortress and the home of the Roman government in the area. During the Roman period a chapel inside the Luxor Temple originally dedicated to goddess Mut was transformed in to a Tetrarchy cult chapel and later in to a church.
Luxor temple was built with sandstone. This sandstone from the Gebel el-Silsila region, which is located in South-Western Egypt, is referred to as Nubian Sandstone. This sandstone was used for the construction for monuments in Upper Egypt as well as in the course of past and current restoration works.
The Avenue of Sphinxes that links the Luxor and Karnak temples is being restored.
The Mosque of Abu Haggag stands atop the ruins of Luxor Temple, just inside the entrance.

EGYPT: Medinet Habu / Ramesses III Temple - Luxor
Medinet Habu is an archaeological locality situated near the foot of the Theban Hills on the West Bank of the River Nile opposite the modern city of Luxor, Egypt. Although other structures are located within the area, the location is today associated almost exclusively (and indeed, most synonymously) with the Mortuary Temple of Ramesses III.
The Mortuary Temple of Ramesses III was an important New Kingdom period temple structure. Aside from its size and architectural and artistic importance, the temple is probably best known as the source of inscribed reliefs depicting the advent and defeat of the foreign invaders known as the Sea Peoples, during the reign of Ramesses III. It is quite well preserved and surrounded by a massive mudbrick enclosure, which may have been fortified. The original entrance is through a fortified gate-house, known as a migdol (and resembling an Asiatic fortress).

Individual Video: The Nile River and Egypt
Slide 1:In the early stages of settlement in Egypt, the Ancient Egyptians built their civilization around the Nile River.
Slide 2: This river was the key to sustainability in Ancient Egypt and was the reason why they were able to prosper for so long.
Slide 3: The Nile River helped Ancient Egyptians sustain through many avenues including their agricultural and economic needs, transportation, and religion and is what ultimately made them such a successful civilization.
Slide 4: Ancient Egyptians were able to use the Nile River to create a reliable agricultural system to farm fruits and vegetables which was one of their main sources of food for most of the population.
Slide 5: The flood of the river allowed water to reach the floodplain without using any equipment to transport the water (Said 185). This later on developed into artificial irrigation where channels carried water to their plants without having to do excessive manual labor for the same effect.
Slide 6: As the river flooded every year, a layer of silt and minerals littered the floodplain insuring fertility of the land which helped plants receive enough nutrients to grow.
Slide 7: Here we can see a hieroglyphic of an egyptian using a “Shadoof” which is a counterweighted bucket that helps them move water to irrigate their crops. They used methods like this as well as artificial irrigation supplied by the Nile river. (Primary Source)
Slide 8: The Nile River provided them transportation to other lands in Egypt for resources as well as economic gain in trading.
Slide 9: Ancient Egyptians used the Nile River as trade routes to trade with Sudan civilizations, selling excess agricultural produce and gold (Amin 23).
Slide 10: Since the Egyptians were one of the first civilizations to form along the Nile, they maintained Political and Economic supremacy over the river. (Amin 23)
Slide 11: The Ancient Egyptians also cultivated a belief around a Nile God named Hapi. Hapi was known as the great supplier of water to Egypt (Sawi 7)
Slide 12: Hapi can be depicted in the form of two gods, one with a papyrus plant on their head while the other a lotus plant.
Slide 13: The Nile river was what the Ancient Egyptians fully built their foundation of civilization upon. The Nile was a crucial resource that allowed Ancient Egyptians to prosper as a strong civilization and was what supported them up until their downfall years later.

Seti I Temple, Abydos, Egypt
Seti I Temple in Abydos, Egypt, North from Luxor, near the town of al-Balyana.
:
The Temple of Seti I - magnificent temple reliefs and the King List. The raised reliefs in the temple are some of the finest quality in all Egypt, incredibly beautiful and detailed. Although the lighting in the interior of the temple can be somewhat gloomy in places, the reliefs still stand out as exceptional. Visitors should note that the reliefs on the outer portions of the temple were completed during the reign of Ramses II, and are of a much lower quality than those further inside the complex. (Ramses moved the best craftsmen to work on his own temples after his father's death). Also worth noting is that the Kings List, or Pharaohs List is somewhat selective, omitting for example Akhenaten (the heretic king), Hatshepsut (a female pharaoh), and the reigns of the kings during the Hyskos occupation. If you are interested in ancient Egyptian history and art, this temple is more than worth the trip.
