The Adi Badri is the first temple complex among the Panch Badri temples is an ancient shrine dedicated to Vishnu and is one among a chain of 16 small shrines located in the hill ranges 17 kilometers (11 mi), beyond Karnaprayag (confluence of Pindar River and Alaknanda River in Chamoli district. Seven temples of this chain were built during the late Gupta period (5th century to 8th century). According to tradition, Adi Shankara is attributed as a builder of all the temples. Adi Shankara is believed to have sanctioned these temples in order to spread Hinduism to every remote part of the country. In ancient times, when the approach to the main shrine of Badrinath was closed due to weather conditions, pilgrims worshipped Vishnu at this temple.
Adi Badri, also known as Helisera according to revenue records, is a tiny temple complex enclosed within a space of 14 meters (46 ft) X 30 meters (98 ft). The height of the temples varies from 2–6 meters (6.6–19.7 ft).
The chief temple is dedicated to god Vishnu, which is built over a raised platform, with a small enclosure in a pyramidal form. The sanctum holds black stone 1 meter (3.3 ft) image of Vishnu. The image depicts Vishnu holding a mace, lotus, and chakra (discus). Brahmins from South India serve as chief priests in the temple.
Adi Badri is located 3 kilometers (1.9 mi) from Chandpur fort or Garhi located on the hilltop, which was built by the Parmar kings of Garhwal. Adi Badri is an hour's drive from Karnaprayag and closes to Chulakot on the way to Ranikhet. On shifting of Badrinath (also known as Raj Badri) to Bhavishya Badri, Adi Badri will be called the Yog Badri.

Description: Every year in late April, the twin villages of Saloor-Dungra in the state of Uttarakhand (northern India) are marked by Ramman, a religious festival in honour of the tutelary god, Bhumiyal Devta, a local divinity whose temple houses most of the festivities. This event is made up of highly complex rituals: the recitation of a version of the epic of Rama and various legends, and the performance of songs and masked dances. The festival is organized by villagers, and each caste and occupational group has a distinct role. For example, youth and the elders perform, the Brahmans lead the prayers and perform the rituals, and the Bhandaris representing locals of the Kshatriya caste are alone entitled to wear one of the most sacred masks, that of the half-man, half-lion Hindu deity, Narasimha. The family that hosts Bhumiyal Devta during the year must adhere to a strict daily routine. Combining theatre, music, historical reconstructions, and traditional oral and written tales, the Ramman is a multiform cultural event that reflects the environmental, spiritual and cultural concept of the community, recounting its founding myths and strengthening its sense of self-worth. In order to ensure that it remains viable, the communitys priorities are to promote its transmission and to obtain its recognition beyond the geographical area in which it is practised.

Gopeshwar appears to have been major temple site located about 10km. away from Chamoli on the way to Ukhimath. The presence of some twenty-one amalasaraka of different sizes found within the compound of the main temple suggesting the existence of many more temple at the site while now only a few temple survived. The main temple locally known as Gopinath/Rudranath is dedicated to Siva, the object of worship being a svayambhu-linga. It is built in Nagara style with a Latina sikhara. Triratha on plan and elevation its sikhara is adorned with chaitya motif all over, hence termed as jala sikhara in architectural canons. Some of these chaitya motifs are adorned with bhadramukhas. The chandrasala of its tall sukanasa shows Siva in his Nataraja form. Stylistically, this temple has close similarity with the Mrityunjaya temple, Jageshwar, both in terms of plan and elevation as well as ornamentation and assignable to eighth century AD, The mandapa of the main temple is a later addition. Besides, there are three miniature shrines, one of which is of valabhi style dateable to tenth century AD. In addition, there are two double storied building built in tradition at style known as Baradari & Rawal Niwas.

Port Blair, May 6: Enthusiasm filled the morning air at Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex, as people from different walks of life gathered to witness the second ‘Sea Swimming Competition-2017’, which was organized by the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, A&N Administration and State Sports Council at the Aberdeen Jetty here this morning. The atmosphere was euphoric, as the BSF Brass Band and the A&N Police Band presented melodious renditions adding fervor to the pleasant morning as well as to the event. Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi was the chief guest on the occasion. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Anindo Majumdar IAS, Principal Secretary (Sports) Shri Raajiv Yaduvanshi IAS, PBMC Chairperson, Shri B. Eswar Rao, Adhyaksh, ZPSA, Shri Jaydeep Kumar Dey, IG, A&N Police, Shri N.S. Bundela IPS, Secretary (Law) Shri Pradip Banerjee IAS and other senior officers of the Administration were also present on the occasion.
Hon’ble Lt. Governor and other officers were present at the finishing line to cheer the participants. As the participants approached the finishing line, rousing cheers from the spectators present at the venue pepped up the spirit of the swimmers, who swam their way to glory from the historic Ross Island to RGWS Complex, covering a distance of 1.5km. Randomly I chose this way to go Joshimath, I was coming back from kedarnath and was traveling to Badrinath and eventually I realised the beauty and scenic views of the valley.
I have been to Switzerland also, and this valley was never less than Switzerland. It is not wrong to say a mini Switzerland of India.

Adi Badri is part of famous Panch Badri of Uttarakhand. It is a group of sixteen temples, belonging to the Gupta period. Among them is the Narayan temple, where a black stone idol of Vishnu, three feet high is enshrined. This place is within the Badrikshetra, and Badrinath being the name for Vishnu, the temple is known as the Adi Badri
This temple is about 20kms away from Karnaprayag . it's huge and was built couple of 100 years ago . Lot of buses can be found coming towards this side from nearby townsAdi Badri is the original Lord Vishnu temple in the region. It is an ASI (Archaeological Society of India) notified monument.The complex has 14 ancient temples of various deities.
At Karnaprayag, we took a detour towards Ranikhet. Shared taxis and a few buses run on this route. At about 20 km from Karnaprayag, is the astounding Adi Badri temple.
There is a GMVN hotel in this village, but one can stay at Karnaprayag.

Confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers at Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand
A confluence of river Alaknanda and Mandakini in Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand. At the confluence, there is a temple of Hindu Lord Shiva. Pilgrims use the staircase to reach the temple as it is on a hilltop. Mandakini river flows on the right-hand side of the temple while on the left side there is Alaknanda river. Hindu pilgrims can be seen taking bath at the confluence.
This town is at a distance of 40 KM from Srinagar located at the confluence of two rivers Alaknanda & Mandakini. River Alaknanda which starts from Alakpuri glacier comes from Badrinath Dham. River Mandakini flows from Kedarnath and joins Alaknanda at this place. After Rudraprayag, the river is known as Alaknanda.
Rudraprayag at a height of 610 meters is a small town and this town has a lot of religious significance. Lord Shiva temple is known as Rudranath here. Narad Muni meditated here for several years and got the blessings of Lord Shiva. There is a temple of goddess Jagadamba Devi in this town.
This town is located at a junction of three hill districts Chamoli, Tehri & Pauri. From here the roads to Kedarnath & Badrinath branches out to two different routes. The road towards Badri Nath Dham goes towards Karanprayag – Nandprayag-Chamoli-Srinagar – Joshimath & then to Sri Badrinath. The other road to Kedarnath goes to Agastyamuni-Guptkashi-Sonprayag-Gaurikund & then to Kedarnath.

केदारनाथ - एक इतिहास - Story of Kedarnath
(Kedarnath Temple) is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is on the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini river in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand in India. Due to extreme weather conditions, the temple is open only between the end of April (Akshaya Tritiya) to November (Kartik Purnima - the autumn full moon). During the winters, the vigrahas (deities) from Kedarnath temple are brought to Ukhimath and worshipped there for six months. Lord Shiva is worshipped as Kedarnath, the 'Lord of Kedar Khand', the historical name of the region.
The temple is not directly accessible by road and has to be reached by a 18 kilometres (11 mi) uphill trek from Gaurikund. Pony and manchan service is available to reach the structure. The temple was built by Pandavas and revived by Adi Sankaracharya and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the holiest Hindu shrines of Shiva. It is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, expounded in Tevaram. Pandavas were supposed to have pleased Shiva by doing penance in Kedarnath. The temple is one of the four major sites in India's Chota Char Dham pilgrimage of Northern Himalayas. This temple is the highest among the 12 Jyotirlingas. Kedarnath was the worst affected area during the 2013 flash floods in North India. The temple complex, surrounding areas and Kedarnath town suffered extensive damage, but the temple structure did not suffer any major damage, apart from a few cracks on one side of the four walls which was caused by the flowing debris from the higher mountains. A large rock among the debris acted as a barrier, protecting the temple from the flood. The surrounding premises and other buildings in the market area were heavily damaged

Badrinath(3,415 metres) is located in the Garhwal hills, on the banks of Alaknanda River.It is a holy town for Hindus in chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It is the most important religious sites among the Chardham. Dwarka, Jagannath Puri, and Rameshwaram are the other three religious sites among the Chardham. The town got its name from the holy temple of Badrinath. Badrinath is situated 301km north of Rishikesh. It is situated in the background of Nilkantha Peak (6560 metres) and between the Nar and Narayana mountain range.
According to a legend, Adi Shankara found a image of Lord Badrinarayan made of black stone (Saligram) in Alaknanda river. He initially kept it in a cave near Tapt kund or hot spring which was later shifted by king of Garhwal to the present temple in 16th century. The hot spring still exists near this temple and taking bath in it keeps a very important religious significance. It is a place sacred to Vishnu, particularly in Vishnu's dual form of Nara-Narayana. Its reference is also given in Hindu Scriptures. This place is full of Bael fruit i.e, Badri or 'Ber' in hindi. According to a another legend Vishnu meditated here for couple of hundered years. Godess Lakshmi gave shelter to him for all those years while he was doing meditation. She later turned into a Badri herself and her Lord was thus known as Badrinath. Another legend is when Godess Ganga was about to descend on earth for the welfare of humanity, it was split into two parts, with Alaknanda one of them so that the mother earth could withstand her force.

Gopeshwar appears to have been major temple site located about 10km. away from Chamoli on the way to Ukhimath. The presence of some twenty-one amalasaraka of different sizes found within the compound of the main temple suggesting the existence of many more temple at the site while now only a few temple survived. The main temple locally known as Gopinath/Rudranath is dedicated to Siva, the object of worship being a svayambhu-linga. It is built in Nagara style with a Latina sikhara. Triratha on plan and elevation its sikhara is adorned with chaitya motif all over, hence termed as jala sikhara in architectural canons. Some of these chaitya motifs are adorned with bhadramukhas. The chandrasala of its tall sukanasa shows Siva in his Nataraja form.
