Wat Arun, Temple of The Dawn (Bangkok, Thailand)
Wat Arun or Temple of The Dawn is one of the famous temples of Bangkok. Take a ferry down the Chao Phraya River and see the massive buddhist monument standing tall among the clouds. Wat Arun is really a masterpiece, and my favorite site in Bangkok.

3 BEST TEMPLES IN BANGKOK THAILAND - Wat Arun, Wat Pho, Grand Palace
We were on a mission to visit the 3 best temples in Bangkok Thailand and we found them! Taking the Chao Phraya Express Boat is an easy way to visit both Wat Arun and Wat Pho which are two of the most beautiful Thailand Temples in the entire country!
One of the most popular Bangkok tourist places, the Grand Palace was a little more difficult to find. We didn’t end up making it in time to enter. We decided to come back the next day and we were finally able to explore the Grand Palace Thailand. We were shocked at how many other people were exploring it too! The Grand Palace was filled with the most tourists we have ever seen.
Our favorite Bangkok Temple was hands down Wat Arun Temple, otherwise known as the Temple of the Dawn. It is one of the only temples in Bangkok left that you can climb on. We got lucky while visiting Wat Arun because there weren’t that many tourists there.
A quick boat ride across the Chao Phraya River led us to another Buddhist Temple, Wat Pho or Temple of the Reclining Buddha. The Reclining Buddha is one of the most iconic figures in all of Bangkok Thailand and we were happy to see it. Wat Pho was pretty busy with tourists, but it was an incredible experience to finally see the Reclining Buddha.
In our opinion, the 3 Best Temples in Bangkok Thailand are:
1. Wat Arun - Temple of the Dawn (100 Baht entrance fee)
2. Grand Palace - (500 Baht entrance fee) Incredibly impressive, although expensive and too many tourists
3. Wat Pho - Temple of the Reclining Buddha (100 Baht entrance fee)

Visiting Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn), Bangkok, Thailand HD
Wat Arun (Thai: วัดอรุณ, Thai pronunciation: [wát ʔarun], Temple of Dawn) is a Buddhist temple (wat) in the Bangkok Yai district of Bangkok, Thailand, on the Thonburi west bank of the Chao Phraya River. The temple derives its name from the Hindu god Aruna, often personified as the radiations of the rising sun and full name of the temple is given by Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan (วัดอรุณราชวรารามราชวรมหาวิหาร). Wat Arun is among the best known of Thailand's landmarks and the first light of the morning reflects off the surface of the temple with pearly iridescence. Although the temple had existed since at least the seventeenth century, its distinctive prang (spires) were built in the early nineteenth century during the reign of King Rama II.
A Buddhist temple had existed at the site of Wat Arun since the time of the Ayutthaya Kingdom. It was then known as Wat Makok, after the village of Bang Makok in which it was situated. (Makok is the Thai name for the Spondias pinnata plant) According to the historian Prince Damrong Rajanubhab, the temple was shown in French maps during the reign of King Narai (1656--1688). The temple was renamed Wat Chaeng by King Taksin when he established his new capital of Thonburi near the temple, following the fall of Ayutthaya. It is believed that Taksin vowed to restore the temple after passing it at dawn. The temple enshrined the Emerald Buddha image before it was transferred to Wat Phra Kaew on the river's eastern bank in 1785. The temple was located in grounds of the royal palace during Taksin's reign, before his successor, Rama I, moved the palace to the other side of the river. It was abandoned for a long period of time until Rama II, who restored the temple and extended the pagoda to 70m.

Wat Arun (Thai: วัดอรุณ, Temple of the Dawn) is a Buddhist temple (wat) in the Bangkok Yai district of Bangkok, Thailand, on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. The full name of the temple is Wat Arunratchawararam Ratchaworamahawihan (วัดอรุณราชวรารามราชวรมหาวิหาร).
The outstanding feature of Wat Arun is its central prang (Khmer-style tower). It may be named Temple of the Dawn because the first light of morning reflects off the surface of the temple with a pearly iridescence. Steep steps lead to the two terraces. The height is reported by different sources as between 66,80 m and 86 m. The corners are surrounded by 4 smaller satellite prangs. The prangs are decorated by seashells and bits of porcelain which had previously been used as ballast by boats coming to Bangkok from China.
The central prang is topped with a seven-pronged trident, referred to by many sources as the trident of Shiva.[1]
Around the base of the prangs are various figures of ancient Chinese soldiers and animals. Over the second terrace are four statues of the Hindu god Indra riding on Erawan.
At the riverside are 6 pavilions (sala) in Chinese style. The pavilions are made of green granite and contain landing bridges.
Next to the prangs is the Ordination Hall with the Niramitr Buddha image supposedly designed by King Rama II. The front entrance of the Ordination Hall has a roof with a central spire, decorated in coloured ceramic and stuccowork sheated in coloured china. There are 2 demons, or temple guardian figures in front.
The central prang symbolizes Mount Meru of the Indian cosmology. The satellite prangs are devoted to the wind god Phra Phai.
The demons (Thai: Yaksha) at the entranceway to the ubosot are from the Ramakien. The white figure is named Sahassa Deja and the green one is known as Thotsakan, the Demon Rāvana from Ramayana.
Most of the tour packages around Bangkok offer a stop at Wat Arun, and it is an easy place to access by public transport. For the foreigners, the temple charges an entrance fee of THB 50 (as of June 2009).

Wat Arun Bangkok
The legendary Wat Arun or the Temple of Dawn in Bangkok is everyone's favorite. It is situated across Chao Phraya River. To get to Wat Arun, you must ferry a small boat. It's a small canal boat and you just have to pay 5 baht for the boat ticket you can get it near the pier. Just hop on the boat and when the boat is filled with passengers then the boat will move and make it's way to the other bank of the river. It's hardly a 5 minute boat ride.
I am from Pakistan, I love traveling and I have traveled to many countries..but my most favorite country is Thailand and then comes the Philippines, there are more 7 thousands beautiful, exotic and tropical islands in the Philippines. The White Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun) Bangkok Thailand
Marikris en co visit Wat Arun, also known as The Temple of Dawn This temple is a short boat trip across the river from the Grand Palace on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River Bangkok Thailand.
The temple derives its name from the Hindu god Aruna. The main feature of Wat Arun is its central prang (Khmer-style tower) which is encrusted with colourful porcelain.
At the time of writing the boat/ferry was only 4 baht per person and takes only 10 minutes to cross the river. You pay at the ferry terminal prior to boarding. The ferry terminal is a very short walk from the Reclining Buddha which is co-located in the same area as the Grand Palace.
This is another very popular must do tourist destination in Bangkok. The Temple of Dawn looks very different from day to night so recommend you visit during the day to climb the temple and view at night whilst cruising the Chao Phraya River.
