The Temple of Eshmun is an ancient place of worship dedicated to Eshmun, the Phoenician god of healing. It is located near the Awali river, 2 kilometres northeast of Sidon in southwestern Lebanon. The site was occupied from the 7th century BC to the 8th century AD, suggesting an integrated relationship with the nearby city of Sidon.Although originally constructed by Sidonian king Eshmunazar II in the Achaemenid era to celebrate the city's recovered wealth and stature, the temple complex was greatly expanded by Bodashtart, Yatan-milk and later monarchs.

The Conservation Project of the Mosaics of Eshmun, Saida, Lebanon
13th ICCM Conference Barcelona 2017 ¦ Video Session
Special Mention to the video of Myriam Ziadé (Directorate General of Antiquities, Lebanon)
The Eshmun archaeological site is located in southern Lebanon. It was constructed in the VIIth century B.C., and was continuously occupied till the Byzantine period, VIth century A.D. Eshmun holds a particular archaeological importance since it is the best preserved Phoenician site in Lebanon.
The site is also well known for its mosaics, still conserved in situ for the majority. These remarkable mosaics reflect the talent of skilled craftsmen. The finesse in the execution using different materials from various sizes, in addition to the unique motifs represented, add to the site a major value which should be enhanced and protected.
This project reflects the huge challenge of protecting the exposed mosaics and controlling the current situation of decay. The deterioration of the mosaics on site is active and fast, and urgent interventions are needed immediately. The lack of consolidation works is badly affecting the pavements leading to the loss of the tesserae and eventually the mosaics.
The preservation of these mosaics in their archaeological context will improve the understanding of their historical significance, and consequently will emphasize on the appreciation of the site as a whole.

Day Trip from Beirut to Tyre and Sidon Lebanon
Woke up bright and early this morning to visit southern Tyre and Sidon by public transport. It was quite easy and straight forward but all together it made for a very long and hot day trip from Beirut. I first visited Tyre, to visit the Roman Ruins of the Necropolis and Hippodrome and went downtown Tyre for the harbour ruins.
After a quick kebab at the old port, I returned by bus to Sidon to visit the Castle of Sidon and the Souk. By taxi, I reached the unknown Temple of Echmoun. Finally, one last bus and taxi to make it back to Beirut. Here is a little video of my day. Let me know what you think!

Baal Esmoun
Houda Henniche - Rana Abou Mjir
Old Souk of Sidon (Lebanon), is a historical vaulted market stretching between the Sea Castle and the Castle of St. Louis, inside this souk and around it, everything seems like a huge bazaar, there's a remarkable mechanism of order. Everyone knows his role, everybody is doing his job. Even the people passing by know exactly what to do and where to go. The children playing in a public space near the mosque give an image of peaceable life of Sidon. Everything goes exactly as it is suppose to. One can even imagine the souk hundreds of years ago with the same mechanism

Echmoun-Tempel (Libanon) 2017

Lebanon under Roman rule(part 2)
Lebanon under Roman rule relates to the Roman control of actual Lebanon, that lasted from 64 BC to the Arab invasions.
all the Roman Temples, with a very similar design: they show the golden era of Roman rule in Lebanon. one of the best examples of Roman Temples can be seen in Lebanon. The ruins of Baalbeck are worldwide reminiscence of Roman arquitecture at its best. The Roman temple sites in Lebanon can be divided into three main groups. First, there is the group in the Bekaa valley north of the Beyrut-Damascus road. Second, there is the group in the area south of the same road, including the Wadi Taym and the western flank of Mount Hermon. Third, the group in the area west of a line drawn along the ridge of Mount Lebanon
The Phoenicians King Hiram
See information and links in my descriptions
The Phoenicians King Hiram
It seems that King Hiram needed Solomon to provide food for them and it also appears this particular person may have been an Israelite. It appears both his wealth and Solomons were dependant upon their relationship. Solomon referred to him as (brother). This all makes perfect sense as you see everyone suffering Except Norther Egypt, Israel, and the Phoenicians of Tyre. All who grew wealthy in a time of drought and internal conflicts etc. in the Mediterranian. It is proven that they suffered under a drought at this time as well as other disasters. Egypt, Israel, and the Phonecians all say and show they were at peace and were not attacked from outsiders during this period. Which corresponds with the chaos in surrounding civilizations. There is an outside source for King Hiram as well that is outside the bible. The tomb in Lebanon for him is not his tomb that was constructed much later in history. These Phoenicians at that time were a mixed group and appeared as large amount of Canaan and even Israel among several other groups. They were a unique group in their willingness to adapt to and absorb other cultures.
