Section 11: Turret 37a to Chollerford
We pick up the trail once more from the lay-by at Deafley Rigg on the Military Road, taking the path that eventually becomes the Pennine Way as it leaves Hadrian's Wall on its journey north. Pass the old lime kiln and joining the old Roman road, the military way, near Turret 37a.
Our first stop is over Housestead Crags to the old Roman fort now known as Housesteads. Continuing along the wall we head over King's Hill and Sewingshields Crags before leaving the wall temporary to visit the field where once stood Sewingshields Castle to tell the tale of King Arthur's tomb. There is another enigma in this vicinity but that is for a future video.
Returning to the Wall we continue the trail eastwards pass the site of an old temple and another fort. Eventually we drop down to the Roman fort of Chesters with it is well preserved bath house and museum of Roman altars. We finish our journey at nearby Chollerford and head to the pub for a deserved pint and dinner at Humshaugh. Afterwards for an added bonus we visit the remains of the Roman bridge on the far side of the North Tyne.
To be continued...

#Hadrian's Wall 2013 Newcastle to Carlisle UK England. U.N. Walk Path
888.948.6006
Chris Spicher and Gary Cothran touch the North Sea in East England and begin the walk West, along the Tyne, into Heddon on the Wall. Visit takes them to the Roman City of Colbridge.
Hadrians Wall - part 4 - Port Gate to Brocolitia
After meeting at Brocolitia there was a short transfer to the start of the walk at Port Gate.
The first section of this days walk treated us with some lovely views of the Simonside Hills away to the North before you drop down to Chollerford, passing the lovely church at Heavenfield on your way.
After crossing the River North Tyne at Chollerford we gradually rose up, passing Chesters Roman Fort and then following some 'true wall'. This is how everybody imagines wall walking to be with the wall on one side and stunning views.
We will then reached the location of Brocoltia Temple, a third-century mithraeum outside the Carrowburgh Fort. It was the largest of such buildings to occupy the site. Worship of Mithras (a cult orginating in Persia) and the Sun God was popular with the Romans.
Hadrian's Wall (Roman Wall) Aerial Video Cinematic HD
Filmed on the DJI spark on 27th December '17 at 3 locations in the County of Northumberland, England. The first location is Walltown Craggs, the second is The Temple of Mithras and the third is near Corbridge. My first attempt at a cinematic video capturing the scale of the fortifications, If anyone has any suggestions of areas I could film in the north of England let me know in the comments. I checked on the app 'Drone Assist' for airspace rules in the locations and they came up clear as I was out of range of the RAF base North if the wall. The music is taken from the TV show 'Game of Thrones' and is quite fitting as inspiration for 'The Wall' was taken from Hadrian's Wall.
