Tennessee Aquarium - 20th Anniversary
The Tennessee Aquarium launched Chattanooga's renaissance when it first opened as the world's largest freshwater aquarium in 1992. The initial community investment continues to pay dividends in tourism, education and conservation. The non-profit Aquarium generates 77.4 million dollars in annual economic impact from visitors. More than two million students have been served by the Aquarium's award-winning education department. Another 366,000 students have been reached by outreach educators. And the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute, TNACI, works throughout the region to restore species and protect habitat.
The Aquarium has had a profound impact on this region. Join us to ensure the next 20 years are as bright as the Aquarium's remarkable past.

Lake Sturgeon Release in Chattanooga, TN
The Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute and biologists from Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency released some large lake sturgeon into the Tennessee River. They were helped by Ivy Academy students who not only learned about these gentle river giants, they also discovered how protecting freshwater resources helps preserve the Gulf of Mexico downstream from Chattanooga. The lake sturgeon is listed as endangered within Tennessee waters. To date, more than 108,000 sturgeon have been reintroduced to this part of their historic range.
