TERA HERITAGE VILAGE OF KUTCH
The 500-year old Tera village in Abdasa taluka of Kutch has now been declared as heritage village by the Government of India. Built by Bhayats, the ruling family of Kutch, Tera has been declared a heritage village, solely for its priceless culture and unique architecture. The Jain temples of Tera are one of the five pilgrimages of Kutch called Nani Panchtirth. Besides, the temples of Goddess Mosheswari and goddess Ashapura are also famous.

भारत सरकारने देशातील पहीला ऐतिहासिक गाव ज्याला घोषित केले ते म्हणजेच कच्छ जिल्ह्य़ातील तेरा गाव.
याच गावात 17 व्या शतकातील किल्ला म्हणजेच तेरा किल्ला.
तेरा किल्ला सद्य स्थितीत 2 प्रवेशद्वार समोरील बुरूज चांगल्या स्थितीत आहेत. दरवाजे कवाड हि उत्तम आहेत.
किल्याचा आत मधे ढासळत चाललेले वाडे व खुप अवशेष दिसुन येतात.
आत मधे निगा न राखण्याने गवत माजले आहे. जनावरांचा गोठा दिसतो तसेच काही भागात अतिक्रमण झाले आहे.
किल्ला सर्व बाजूने तटबंधी आहे.
प्रवेशद्वार बुरूजावर जाण्यास पायऱ्या आहेत. परंतु झाडी खूप आहे.
ईतिहास:
ईतिहासात कच्छच्या राजानी त्याच्या भावामधे दिलेली
तेरा हे एक जहांगीर होती. कच्छ मधील सर्वात मोठी जहांगीर असल्यानेच या जहांगीर मधे एकूण 41 गावे होती.
देशाजी 1 (1718_1741) याच्या राजवटीत, तेरा जहांगीर ही राव रायधन याच्या एका मुलाला देण्यात आली.
पुढे (1741_1760) मधे राव लखाजी 1 याच्या कालावधीत, तेरा जहांगीर प्रमुखाने कच्छच्या राजा विरूद्ध उठाव केला.
राव लखाजी याने तेरा प्रमुखाला पकडण्यासाठी, तेरा गाव , किल्ला परिसर उध्वस्त करण्यासाठी सैन्य पाठवले.
परिणामत तेरा प्रमुखाने शरणागत पत्करून पुन्हा लखाजी सोबत प्रामाणिक राहण्याची शपथ घेतली.
1740 मधे किल्ल्याचे जे नुकसान झाले, त्यात भर रणकच्छ मधे 1819 मधे झालेल्या भूकंपाने घातली.
देशाजी 2 याच्या कालावधीत किल्ल्याचे पुन्हा बांधकाम करण्यात आले.

There are many Historical and Pre-Historical places in Kutch. God has showered amazing natural beauty on this land. Tera Village is the at the Top in consideration of other villages of Abdasa. “Tera” is declared First Heritage Village of Kutch by Central Govt. and Govt. of Gujarat jointly. This village is supposedly 800 to 1000 years old. The great and artistic entry-door of fort is the centre of attraction for Artique lovers. In the village of Tera there are Wall paintings of Kamagiri style. These paintings are one hundred thirty years old and they are centre of attraction for the tourist and visitors. These painting and pictures are mainly based on Episode of Ramayan. All these beautiful and artistic sculptures, paintings and pictures justify the Heritage Village category of the Tera Village. Over and above these, thirty to forty ancient temples are situated around the village of Tera. In these, Modeshwari Mataji Temple, Jain Temple are more than 350 years old.
There are many peculiarities of the region of Kutch. One of the said peculiarities is the Handi -Craft of Kutch. The art and craft of Kutchi people is like traditional heritage. The village “Tera” is famous for it’s Bhandhnis. This art has been awarded Eleven National Awards and Three Merit Certificates from Central Government. Each and every lane, house and family with each and every human beings of Tera Village inhale art & craft and produce unique artistic handicrafts and many other things. It is just their birth right.
Tera Village was felicitated and honored as Jagir. There were fifty two small villages under this Jagir of Tera Village. Before 150 years, British Govt. had established five post offices in the region of Kutch. One of these five old post offices is still situated in the village of Tera.

The idol in the temple is believed to be installed by King Samprati. The workmanship of the nine peaks in this sacred place is very popular. This temple complex has 9 shikhars, one main temple and 6 small temples. In the temple complex there is Narendra Gyanmandir which is a spiritual art gallery. The glass artwork done inside the rang mandap of the temple is very attractive. For the pilgrims there are facilities made such as dharamshala and bhojnalaya which provides saatvik food.

He is the earliest Jain leader born around 872 –772 BCE for whom there is reasonable evidence of having been a historical figure. Parshvanatha was born on the tenth day of the dark half of the month of Paush to King Asvasena and Queen Vama of Benaras and belonged to the Ikshvaku dynasty. He assumed and began to practice the twelve basic vows of the adult Jain householder when he reached the age of eight.
At the age of thirty Parshvanatha renounced the world to become a monk. He meditated for eighty-four days before attaining Kevala Jnana. He achieved moksha at the age of one hundred atop Shikharji, which is known today as the Parasnath Hills after him. Parshvanatha was called purisādāṇīya meaning beloved of men, a name which shows that he must have been a genial personality. He remains beloved among Jains.

Ludie and The Pottery Village of Khavada, Little Rann of Kutch, India
Ludie/Ludya and Khavada are two villages that require permits to visit. Both close to the border of Pakistan. Ludie was the first village in the Little Rann of Kutch that we actually saw lots of tourists. Six others!
The main attraction for us was their small houses beautifully decorated on the outsides. Known for woodwork, there was nothing of interest and we moved along to Khavada.
I can stand for hours watching potters create an item of beauty out of a lump of clay. The thought of carrying a pottery jug around for the next two weeks deterred me from buying. Otherwise, it would be sitting in my house this very minute.

Village in the desolate Rann of Kutch, Gujarat
Hindu and Muslim structures in a harsh landscape in the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat. The huge Gujarati bulls with their massive horns emerge from their pen. An old structure that seems to be a bund for a water catchment still stands in the desolate landscape while Prosopis juliflora or Vilayati keekar seems to have taken over some of the landscape. The exotic Mesquite is a bit of a nuisance as it can survive easily and kills off local flora.

Kutch is a district of Gujarat state in western India. Covering an area of 45,652 km², it is the largest district of India.
Kutch literally means something which intermittently becomes wet and dry; a large part of this district is known as Rann of Kutch which is shallow wetland which submerges in water during the rainy season and becomes dry during other seasons. The same word is also used in the languages of Sanskrit origin for a tortoise. The Rann is famous for its marshy salt flats which become snow white after the shallow water dries up each season before the monsoon rains.
The district is also famous for ecologically important Banni grasslands with their seasonal marshy wetlands which form the outer belt of the Rann of Kutch.
Kutch District is surrounded by the Gulf of Kutch and the Arabian Sea in south and west, while northern and eastern parts are surrounded by the Great and Little Rann (seasonal wetlands) of Kutch. When there were not many dams built on its rivers, the Rann of Kutch remained wetlands for a large part of the year. Even today, the region remains wet for a significant part of year. The district had a population of 1,583,500 of which 30% were urban as of 2001. Motor vehicles registered in Kutch district have their registration Number starting with GJ-12.
