Good truck driver behaviour in the Sydney CBD
A few months ago, I had a close call with a truck doing a delivery to a Barangaroo work site, and since then, I've been very careful around trucks on this section of Sussex St/Hickson road. However, in this case, the driver was very sensible and they had a simple but effective safety system - a cut out in the lower part of the door so they could see a low mounted mirror providing visibility up the side of the truck. But having a safe truck is only part of the puzzle - the main thing is having a driver with a safe mindset behind the wheel. This driver was good - this is how truck driving in the CBD should be done. Calmly, patiently and safely.
Byangee Walls, Budawangs-Morton Nat Park-4K
The Budawangs Mountain Range in Morton National Park has some of the best sites for hiking in NSW & Byangee Walls climb is one of the classic day walks. It has a mixture of rock scrambling & rope assisted passages to reach it's plateau where it has dominating views over the Clyde Valley Gorge, Pigeon House & Talaterang Mountain although it's dwarfed by the nearby imposing & aptly named The Castle 840 mts high.
On the 19/20 th of October 2019 six members of Canberra Explorers walking group led by Simon Hickey walked up to Byangee Walls & camped overnight.Starting at the Long Gully camping ground we immediately crossed the Yadboro River & walked up the fire trail for 2.4 kms & gained 350 mts in elevation to reach the base of the Castle & a miriad of caves. Cathedral Cave with some spectacular large tree ferns provided a good spot for a break, then onto the Arch that gave us a great view of the NW of Byangee Walls towering above us.We skirted around the base of Byangee Walls until we came to a gully with a series of scrambling sections, some rope assisted & the third one a hole in the rock called the chimney brings you up to the plateau & magnificent views.
Mordialloc to Ballarat
Tuesday 10th of September 2019. Starting in Mordialloc southbound on the Nepean Highway going through the shopping precinct. Turning right at the roundabout onto Beach Road. Inbound through Melbourne's Bayside suburbs, Mordialloc, Parkdale, Mentone, Beaumauris, Black Rock, Hampton, Sandringham, Brighton, Gardenvale, Elsternwick, Elwood, St.Kilda, Middle Park, Albert Park, Port Melbourne and onto the Westgate Bridge.
Westgate Bridge and Princes Highway to the Western RingRoad then Western Freeway to Ballarat.
W8 class tram - Test run on Plenty Road 26/4/19
On a Friday night just before midnight, Melbourne W8 class No.928 is seen running on the Route 86 through Reservoir and Preston. It had just been on a test run out to the terminus at Bundoora, and was returning to Preston Workshops. This tram had spent the past year in Bendigo being converted from a SW6 to a W8 class, and was being tested before re-entering service. It originally entered service in 1947. W class normally only operate the City Circle service, and seeing them out in the suburbs like this is very rare.
