« Carnets d'Egypte » est une invitation a la découverte de la vie quotidienne en Egypte aujourd'hui.
Au Caire, on dort un peu le jour et un peu la nuit ; le reste du temps permet de participer à l'activité continuelle de la ville, moins bruyante la nuit que le jour quand la circulation connaît son accalmie quotidienne.
Raafat, chauffeur de taxi, charge les touristes devant le Musée du Caire. Ancien policier, il a des facilités que nombre de ses collègues n'ont pas : c'est un excellent guide de jour. Il finit ses journées assez tôt, fume une chicha près de la mosquée d'Hussein et rentre à la maison surveiller les devoirs de ses 3 enfants.
Zina, venue avec ses parents de Nubie, connaît plus la nuit ; elle va dans les cafés vêtue de belles robes et d'un encensoir d'argent ...
Égypte, au fil du Nil - Échappées belles
En Egypte, qu'elle découvre au fil de son fleuve nourricier, Sophie Jovillard pose ses valises dans une dahabiya, un voilier d'antan qui la mène aux pyramides, dans la vallée du Nil puis au Caire, la ville qui ne dort jamais. Elle part à la rencontre de la population, afin de comprendre comment vivent les Egyptiens aujourd'hui, se plongeant dans les paradoxes de ce beau pays que chantait Dalida, ce pays dont la vitrine touristique s'est fissurée il y a quelques années, et qui peine à rebondir.

EGYPT TRAVEL VLOG | SLEEPING IN SAHARA DESERT 2018
We were literally on another planet driving through the Sahara desert of Egypt and sleeping in the middle of the White desert, it is a unique experience we highly recommend if you visit Egypt in 2018.
We went through the Black dessert, the White desert and Crystal mountains where you get the feeling of being on Mars or another planet. When we were sleeping in the desert Mars was actually really close to Earth so we had this amazing chance to see it in the best condition.
Travelling to Egypt and especially to the desert was a bit challenging for safety questions but we quickly realized that everything runs smoothly and we didn't encounter any safety problems. If you want to travel to Egypt in 2018 we definitely recommend it, it is cheap, full of culture and a beautiful red sea and there is less tourists right now.

Cette partie du Caire est le plus ancien quartier de la ville. La forteresse de Babylone, construite par les Romains, s'est transformée très tôt en enclave chrétienne et juive. Ce quartier renferme la synagogue Ben Ezra, fondée en 1115, et comptait une vingtaine d'églises dont il n'en subsiste que cinq dont, notamment : l'église suspendue consacrée à la Vierge, probablement l'église chrétienne la plus ancienne en Égypte, datant du ive siècle, l'église Saint-Serge construite à la fin du ive siècle au-dessus d'une crypte où la sainte Famille se serait réfugiée lors de la fuite en Égypte et l'église Sainte-Barbara, du nom d'une jeune fille martyrisée pour avoir essayé de convertir son père au christianisme, reconstruite au xie siècle. Les églises ne se distinguent pas par leur ornementation extérieure mais par un intérieur très riche.

Standing right in front of the #Sphinx and #GizaPyramids, it feels unbelievable, looking at them and I wonder how all these were built back in the ancient time, how strong the Egyptian Empire was back then.
I rented a room at #GuardianGuestHouse with a room and rooftop of the pyramids view, it was insane, I wake up in the morning and look out the window, seeing the world wonder in such a close distance. How wonderful life can be! Everyday, I bring a cup of coffee to the rooftop, sitting there and wait for sunset, it's definitely one the best moments of my life.
#Cairo, on the other hand, it's another massive city, not that clean to be honest, but it has very strong moslem culture with beautiful mosque everywhere. #CairoCitadel is beautiful, flooded with tourists everyday visiting it and from there, since it is located at a higher ground, you get a bird's eye view of the city. Apart from the citadel, there are police and military museums which are worth visiting.
Sleeper train is the best choice to go to the south, for a foreigner, officially that's the only option but you can purchase a local train which is way less comfortable, without a flat bed, which I don't recommend for a journey of 12 to 14 hours to #Luxor or #Aswan. The sleeper train, costs you USD80, you get a flat bed to sleep comfortably in a shared cabin with a private sink, a shared toilets and you will be served dinner as soon as the train leaves, and a continental breakfast with coffee and tea before arriving at your destination. I had a wonderful experience in the train, after dinner, I got changed and had a great night of sleep, waking up 8-9 hours later, enjoyed my breakfast and I am already in the south of Egypt, to begin my exploration.
#AbuSimbel is another 4 hours on the road from Aswan, but it is worth the long journey, being there looking at it, it put me into complete silence with so much of excitement inside, incredibly impressive. Even more when you know the whole temple has been moved to the current location because it was completely under the water 50 years ago with the rise of water level. They dismantled the whole temple into blocks, moved and put them all back together again, like a puzzle.
After Aswan, I took a 3.5 hours local train north to Luxor. This is the city that has the most Egyptian temples and tombs, like Aswan, it is also located by the Nile river. Weather in this 2 cities are very dry, often you get to see sunny and clear blue sky, which is perfect for watching sunset, sailing on the felucca.
The details of the Egyptian carvings on the wall of the temples and tombs, telling so much of stories and I realize history is so great because it made the presence, and it will shape the future.

The Grand Egyptian Museum
The big news for tourism in Egypt is the massive new “Grand Egyptian Museum” being built in Giza at the great pyramids. The GEM, as it’s already called, will open in the next year. It’s far bigger than any museum I’ve ever seen and my Egyptian friends assure me there’s more than enough ancient artifacts to fill it. Any tourist coming to Egypt in 2021 will likely go here, see all the statues, and then hop a shuttle train to the great pyramids at Giza. Judging by the immensity of this construction site, I’d say the pharaohs would approve.

Avec ses 19 millions d'habitants, la capitale égyptienne s'impose comme la plus grande ville d'afrique et du monde arabe. A côté de la mégapole moderne, sur le plateau de Gizeh, se dressent Mykerinos, Kephren et ... Khéops, la plus grande des pyramides et la première merveille du monde. Tombeaux millénaires pointant vers l'infini, ces montagnes érigées par l'homme portent les noms des pharaons qu'elles devaient abriter pour l'éternité.
