Where is CARP? Kagoshima City's streets view at Terukuni Shrine (7 February 2015)
I made a visit to Terukuni Shrine.
The shrine is located at the center of Kagoshima City.
Many beautiful carps are swimming the river along the street.
(Terukuni Shrine)
The shrine worships Mt. Nariakira Shimazu.
He is the 11th lords of Shimazu family.
He made great contribution to the modenization of Japan during Meiji Restoration.
(Rokugatsudo Festival)
The festival is celebrated on 16th June of lunar calendar.
The festivals are held at the every shrine of Kagoshima Prefecture, but the Terukuni Shrine's festival is the biggest and the most vigorous.
Many lanterns are decorated at the garden of shrines.
In my childhood, I made many pictures of lanterns used in the festival. I usually draw Dragon Ball which is my most favorite cartoon.

Inventor of Japan's National Flag HINOMARU (7 February 2015, Terukuni Shrine)
Do you know who invented Japanese controversial flag HINOMARU?
This is the inventor of Japanese flag. His name is Mr. Nariakira Shimazu. Shimazu Family has ruled Kagoshima Prefecture until Meiji Restoration in 1868.
His statue is located at the side of Terukuni Shrine which worships Nariakira as the God.
When is Japanese flag made?
I had thought that Japan had used the flag from ancient times, but the national flag was made in 19th centuries.
Nariakira was the 28th lord of the Satsuma Domain (old name of Kagoshima Prefecture) and he is the first person to use the flag on the ship as Japanese national flag.
I am very proud that the inventor of Japanese flag is from Kagoshima Prefecture!
Mark of Japanese Ship!
Ships of every country has their national flag which stands for their nationalities.
In 1854, the US forced Japan to end national isolation policy and start to trades with the US.
Nariakira put Hinomaru flags on his ships in order to distinguish his ships from those of other countries in 1853.
The old Japanese military government recognized the necessity of the national flag and decided to use Hinomaru as Japan's flag.
If Nariakira was not born, what would be the Japanese flag like? I can hardly imagine!
What kind of person is Nariakira?
All lords of Satsuma Province has been good rulers without any big problems in history. But Nariakira was one of the best rulers produced by Shimazu family.
When Japan opens itself to the world in 1854, many people hate to study western countries but he was an exception.
Nariakira was eager to study Western cultures in order to build a strong country so that Japan would not be colonized by western countries.
Even if many people are opposed to his idea, but he never gave up and made great contributions to modernization of Japan (He died of diseases before Meiji Restoration though).
I want to learn his spirit of enterprise!
Japanese CARPs, relaxing, colorful and beautiful (Pond at Terukuni Shrine)
JAPANESE CARPS
You will find many colorful Japanese carps swimming in the river in Japan.
When watching them, you will feel very relaxed and comfortable.
Please give them a designated food because they are very easy to get diseased.
JAPANESE CUISINE
Sashimi and soup of Carps are nutritious and delicious.
They are popular Japanese foods.
I feel sorry for them a little bit, though...

Kagoshima City - Japan - Sakurajima - Gourmet Street - Hokke Hotel
Living in the Shadows of a Volcano
Kagoshima City is the administrative, economic, and cultural center of Kagoshima Prefecture and is a castle town dating back to the 14th century. The city and its suburbs are located on the northeastern part of Satsuma Peninsula and face the Kagoshima Bay, which is more commonly known as Kinko Bay.
The smoking Sakurajima centered in Kinko Bay is one of the main symbols of Kagoshima Prefecture. Throughout history Sakurajima (4 km from central Kagoshima City) has been the site of multiple massive eruptions and continues to be one of the most well-known active volcanos in the world. Sakurajima was originally an isolated island however, as a result of the eruption of 1914, the island was joined to the adjacent Osumi Peninsula. The leva fields can still be seen on the island as testament to the history of the volcano's eruptions. - Japan Tourism
