Teton Raptor Center Golden Eagle
Falcon wearing POV camera flying high over Jackson Hole Wyoming
This is a male Gyrfalcon x Peregrine falcon hybrid flying high over Wilson, Wyoming. He was part of the 2012 falcon-cam hack project at Teton Raptor Center. He was trained by their Program Director, Jason Jones, for hack. Hack denotes a type of training where the falcons are trained to return each day to a location, rather than a person. He could be released each morning, fly anywhere he wanted, and then return to the chambers each evening. This type of training has been used to train hunting falcons, falconry birds, for ages. The novel part of the project involved the cameras they each carried. This falcon was wearing an HD POV camera on his back as he flew each day. From the view of a falcon, we can see the amazing views of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. In this video it is interesting to note that the winds were 20+ mph at ground level, considerably more up high, and this falcon was able to rise over 3000 feet into the sky in a matter of less than 20 minutes. This falcon was placed out each day for over 8 weeks. This falcon was brought to the Teton Raptor Center for the hack project and then will be sent to a falconry home at the end of summer.

Lyrics:
Wild Wild West, Jim West, desperado, rough rider
No you don't want nada
None of this, gun in this, brotha runnin this,
Buffalo soldier, look it's like I told ya
Any damsel that's in distress
Be out of that dress when she meet Jim West
Rough neck so go check the law and abide
Watch your step with flex and get a hole in your side
Swallow your pride, don't let your lip react,
You don't wanna see my hand where my hip be at,
With all of this, from the start of this,
Runnin the game, James West tamin the west so remember the name
Now who ya gonna call?
We going straight to (when I roll into the) the Wild Wild West (when I stroll into the)
We going straight to (when I bounce into the) the Wild Wild West
We going straight to the Wild Wild West
We going straight to the Wild Wild West

After spending the early afternoon perching on the trees and power lines around the edge of the elk prairie, the Great Gray Owl moved into the field for a series of quick hunting attempts as the voles became more active late in the day.
