Just like every state in the USA, there’s good and a lotta bad. The goal today is to talk about the worst places you could live in Texas. These are the places that just about everyone here would agree are pretty crummy.
In order to determine which are the worst places in Texas, we just had to look at ‘worst’ things. That means statistics like crime, poverty and bad schools. The type of stuff most Texans tend to avoid.
So, grab some BBQ and throw on your boots as we mosey on through the worst places you can live in the state of Texas.
Killeen We begin our journey along the worst places you can live in Texas in the small city of Killeen, just off of I-35 west of Temple.
Our next stop along our worst Texas tour brings us to Cleveland Texas. This is a much smaller place - the population is only around 7,000 people. Cleveland is along I-69 northeast of Houston.
Okay, so we’re going to take a quick stop in our 8th worst place you can live in Texas, Hutchins. Here in Hutchins, things aren’t very good. This teeny little city of 5,200 people is just outside the Dallas belt line.
But for now, it’s time to move on to our 7th worst place to live in Texas, El Paso. For things to do, there is more than in the other cities we’ve mentioned so far. Of course, there’s a university here, and some mountains to hike in. And you can go to Juarez for a thrill. Does having more 99 cent stores than anywhere else on earth count for something?
Our next stop along our worst place to live in Texas tour stops in Donna. This little city of 15,000 is located Donna, located at the far southeastern tip of the state, between McAllen and Brownsville.
We’re halfway through our tour of the most worstest cities to live in the entire state of Texas and we’re going to stop in number 5, Humble. Like Houston, Humble is a case of the haves and have nots. It has a low economic outlook and significantly high number of convenience and discount stores.
Our fourth worst place to live in the state of Texas is none other than Port Arthur. Here, home prices are the 16th lowest in Texas, and the unemployment rate is in the top 10%.
Hey now. We’re in the top three worst places you can live in Texas, as we come to Robstown. A ton of people are out of work here - more than 8%. Average home price in Texas is $151k. Robstown’s is $50k.
Who’s our runner up as the worst place in Texas? Bellmead is. Do they even have a Whataburger here?
The worst place to live in Texas is Southeast Houston after dark.

First Day of Federal Prison
First Day of Federal Prison
Justin Paperny discusses the {First Day of Federal Prison}.
#firstdayinfederalprison
GeoffMousseau: Hi, this is Geoff Mousseau with White Collar Vice. We’re here today with Justin Paperny. The reason we’re here today is because this is a significant day for Justin. It was eight years ago, today, that Justin began his prison sentence. So, we’re going to talk today about that first day, and what it’s like and what can you expect. Now, Justin, tell us did you self-surrender?
{First Day of Federal Prison}
Justin Paperny: I did, I self-surrendered. My mom and brother drove me up I 5 into Bakersfield. I lived in Los Angeles and I self-surrendered to TAFT federal prison camp the 20th of April in 2008. I was due to get there. My letter said get there at 2 o’clock; I got there several hours earlier around 10 or 11 o’clock and my journey begin, or continue I should say.
{First Day of Federal Prison}
Geoff Mousseau: So, did you have a last meal on your way up?
Justin Paperny: I did. I surrendered fat, bloated and miserable and angry, and we stopped at this, Carl's Jr. is sort of my last meal. And I have this bacon double cheeseburger, and I was sick and coffee and I just didn’t feel great. So, yes.
{First Day of Federal Prison}
Geoff Mousseau:: Well, what did you do to prepare? I didn't do much, as I've written about I was in denial a bit, and really unwilling to embrace the reality of the situation of it and really unwilling to embrace the reality of the situation that I was going to jail. And, I had eight weeks to surrender and prior to that I was just so fixated on how I felt my life was coming apart; I shouldn't have been prosecuted; I should have been handled civilly not criminally. So, I purposely didn't prepare knowing that would make matters worse. It would have been just too much work to sit down at a computer, to read, to prepare, to study, whatever. So, I went in blind someone in my family made one call to the prison to find out what I could surrender with, said that I could come with shoes and a watch, so of course I went out and I bought the most expensive running watch and running shoes thinking that I could surrender with them, but very little preparations.
{First Day of Federal Prison}
Geoff Mousseau: Did you surrender directly to the camp itself?
Justin Paperny: Good question. I surrendered to the low security prison which is adjacent to the camp. So, to go to TAFT, you go this long dusty road and then you drive into the, you see this big sign, you know TAFT correctional complex and you go down this dirt road and you see the barbed wire, the razor coil, and a huge tract, and I was thinking like wow, this is where I’m actually going to live. And I didn’t even know, because I was so unprepared that eventually I’d be moved over to the satellite camp, but I surrendered and checked in and processed at the low security prison.

Behind Bars: The World’s Toughest Prisons - Dallas County Jail, Texas, USA (Eps.2)
The Dallas County Jail in Texas - a supersized facility with beds for 7,100 inmates. There, inmates brought in for anything from minor crime to serial killing await their court dates. Up to 300 new arrivals come in per day. The biggest threat in the prison? Turf wars. With the surplus of inmates, there is less space to divide up between them, leading to relentless gang warfare.

How Dollar Stores Really Make Their Money
Every year, dollar stores see higher and higher earnings, but how can a store that seems like it's giving things away turn itself into a multi-billion-dollar enterprise? The answer is simple: that dollar isn't always the great deal it appears to be. Here are their secrets.
Whether times are good or bad, you can still count on people to flock to dollar stores because they have the one thing everyone loves: convenience. Sales for Dollar General are always on the upswing, with the chain seeing an increase of 3.7 percent between 2017 and 2018, regardless of the state of the economy. Take it from Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos, who had this to say about their regular customers:
We have seen no sign of trade out or trade up from our core customers. Even in a good economy, [they are] still looking for value and convenience.
So, basically, no matter how much money people have, they still want something that bigger grocery stores can't give them. Dollar stores are not just convenient because their items are cheaper, but also because there seems to be one on every corner — and that makes them perfect for a quick fill-in trip between your weekly grocery runs. These stores are also typically smaller than the ones in a big chain like Walmart, which means that you can usually get in and out with your emergency bag of dog food, a handful of snacks, or supplies for your kid's art project in just a couple of minutes. The fact that most people are on to this, means dollar stores are always making money — even if customers buy just a few things.
