San Antonio to Austin
It's time for Chapter 4 to start and we were so excited and exhausted. Luckily, when we got back to Boerne Boat and RV Storage the Beaver was right where we left her, safe and sound.
We pulled her out and immediately got on the road to head toward McKinney Falls State Park. What a beautiful place.
Then we headed over to Austin, TX to our first meet-up at the Brewtorium, where we got to hang out with You, Me & the RV, Changing Lanes and a whole bunch of their followers. It was so fun to meet people we follow along with and so many other like minded folks. It was a great time. Then we were off to get settled in the Best RV Park in Austin, Pecan Grove RV Park. From there we got a lot of work done at the Austin RV Show, got my new bike put together, met up with subscribers, went to Barton Springs Pool, ate great food at Chuy's TexMex and road our bikes for miles and miles on the wonderful Austin bike trails. We even ran into the amazing 'Forever Bicycles' sculpture.

His Obsession Almost Consumed the Country: Washington Gone Crazy (2004)
Michael Jay Ybarra (September 28, 1966 – June 30, 2012) was an American journalist, author and adventurer. About the book:
He was a non-fiction writer whose work appeared in various national publications. In 2004 his book Washington Gone Crazy: Senator Pat McCarran and the Great American Communist Hunt won the D.B. Hardeman Prize. It is an important historical work on McCarthyism. As the extreme sports correspondent for the Wall Street Journal, Ybarra wrote articles about outdoor adventure, providing the genre with a wider audience than it typically receives.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, Ybarra graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1990 with a B.A. in political science. It was during his undergraduate years at UCLA that he started writing professionally for the Los Angeles Times followed by the Chicago Tribune. During his brief stint at the Chicago Tribune he interviewed future President Barack Obama.[2] After graduating from UCLA Ybarra moved to Washington, DC where he wrote for the Washington Post. He left when he decided to further his education. In 1992 he graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Master's in political science.
Ybarra had a 25 year career as a journalist and author. He wrote for: the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Washington Post, the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. A prolific and diverse writer, he also contributed articles to The New Republic, Upside, CIO Decisions and Alpinist magazines. The piece he wrote for the Washington Post, Activists Attest to Romania's Idea of Democracy was entered into the Congressional Record at the request of Senator Ted Kennedy. His story about Hurricane Katrina The Long Road Back for CIO Decisions magazine won a National Azbee Gold Award from ASBPE (American Society of Business Publication Editors) and a Bronze Tabbie Award for feature article. Ybarra reported on a wide variety of topics and people such as: President Obama, Pulitzer-prize winning author Michael Chabon,[3] Patagonia founder/climber Yvon Chouinard, novelist Norman Mailer,[4] historian Arthur Schlesinger Jr, veteran climber Fred Beckey[5] and television personality Bill Maher.[6] He was the author of Washington Gone Crazy: Senator Pat McCarran and the Great American Communist Hunt (Steerforth Press).
In the early 1990s Ybarra began working for the Wall Street Journal as a staff reporter in the Journal's San Francisco bureau. It was during this period that Ybarra started researching and writing Washington Gone Crazy. The book was published by Steerforth in 2004 to much critical acclaim. Author, professor and CBS News commentator Douglas Brinkley wrote of the book Esteemed scholar Michael J. Ybarra's Washington Gone Crazy-based on extensive new archival research-offers a fair-minded, and ultimately devastating, portrait of Nevada's notorious Cold Warrior. A truly landmark study. It was a finalist for The Los Angeles Times Book Prize,[7] The New York Times Book Review listed the biography among the 100 Notable Books of the Year[8] and was shortlisted for the Ambassador Book Award in American Studies. Washington Gone Crazy won the D.B. Hardeman Prize for the best book on Congress from the Lyndon B. Johnson Foundation.[9] Award committee member Dr. H.W. Brands, the Dickson, Allen, Anderson Centennial Professor of History at The University of Texas at Austin, said Ybarra's work is that rare book which has something really new to say on an old subject. In popular culture, Washington Gone Crazy is mentioned on the History Channel's Pawn Stars in the episode Take A Seat. A digital version of Washington Gone Crazy, featuring an introduction by Sam Tanenhaus, a former editor of The New York Times Book Review, is slated to be released in 2015.
While on a trip to Peru in 2004, Ybarra took his first climbing lessons. He subsequently became an avid climber and adventurer. Ybarra traveled widely climbing, hiking and kayaking in such places as: Nepal, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Switzerland, Italy, Thailand, Mexico, Canada, Alaska, Montana, Utah and the Sierra Nevada. From 2007 until his death in 2012, Ybarra chronicled his adventures for the Wall Street Journal as its extreme sports correspondent publishing more than 30 pieces.

Things to Do in Nevada: My Top Outdoor Activities in Reno and Lake Tahoe
We start our Reno Experience 20 minutes outside the city on one of the peaks of Sierra Nevada. Here, we join Tahoe Adventure Company for a snowshoe tour for some of the most epic views of Lake Tahoe. Next, we head to Diamond Peak Ski Resort which has some of the most scenic ski runs I’ve ever experienced. Make sure to ride the Crystal Express run to the bottom. It’s a long easy trail with stunning views of Lake Tahoe juxtaposed against the snowy peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Located less than an hour drive from Reno, it is easy to spend a day skiing Diamond Peak before heading back to Reno, which has more lodging and dining options, come evening. The small city hosts a range of hotels including Circus Circus and the Eldorado.
And while many people associate Reno mostly with casinos, there is actually quite lot more to do here than gamble. You’ll notice right away, driving down the main drag, that there’s also a giant climbing wall. At 164 feet it is the world’s largest manmade wall of its kind and is part of the just opened Basecamp rock climbing gym, which also has a 7,000-square-foot indoor component inside the Whitney Peak Hotel. If you’re looking for indoor kid friendly amenities, look no further than Nevada Discovery Museum. It features a number of fun interactive exhibitions including Nevada Stories, Under the Stars and Inside Out an Anatomy Experience.
Back on Virginia Street, there is plenty more entertainment. You don't want to miss eating at Kingpai inside the Circus Circus, which is a 24 hour all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant on the weekends. After mosey on down to the Eldorado, where you can grab a drink at the Roxy, a jazz and martini bar inside with awesome happy hour specials. The music is fantastic and the jazz piano player takes songs by request and also sings his own sets. Try the chocolate martini or if you prefer a different spirit, The Kentucky is great for bourbon drinkers. Before you know it, the sun has set on Downtown Reno, closing out the perfect day in this city.

Scottish cyclist travels around the world in 195 days
SHOTLIST

2. Various of Mark Beaumont cycling around the Arc
3. Beaumont being greeted by supporters
4. Beaumont walking by trailed by press
5. Pan from press to Beaumont posing on the bike in front of Arc de Triomph
6. SOUNDBITE (English) Mark Beaumont, Cyclist:
The route which I've just taken around the world is based on the Guinness criteria because this was for the Guinness World Record. I had to cycle 18,000 miles and I've done 18,400. I had to pass through two points on the opposite sides of the world which were Madrid and Wellington in New Zealand. And apart from that I could really set my own route and it was up to me to find the fastest way around the world. And that is not easy trying to get through the Middle East and Asia and Southeast Asia and these places. You know some of the great adventures are through there but they are not built for race cycling so I went through Europe, through Turkey around Pakistan, India down through Southeast Asia across Australia up New Zealand across the United States and I've just come from Lisbon in Portugal back up to Paris.

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Mark Beaumont, Cyclist:
When I first set out to do this, years ago, it was a very sort of personal challenge and I never ever expected a finale like this or any of the press or other benefits. The charities, the schools, the educational side, all the support from friends and family and what they've taken from it is a scale which is just unbelievable for me and I take a lot from that. I took a lot of strength, when I was finding it really tough and you know it is quite lonely on the road for long long sections, you know weeks and weeks without speaking to people, from the fact that I knew that there were so many people watching what I was doing and watching that yellow dot on the GPS map.

10. SOUNDBITE: (English) Mark Beaumont, Cyclist:
I've absolutely loved it but I mean there is no easy one hundred miles and I've just done 195 days on the road so I mean I am very much looking forward to not getting on the bike tomorrow.

STORYLINE:
After cycling around the world in 195 days, Mark Beaumont says he's ready for a day off.
The 25-year-old Scottish cyclist arrived in Paris on Friday at the end of a journey he hopes will set a new world record for the fastest cycling trip around the globe once it is evaluated.
There is no easy one hundred miles, Beaumont said. And I've just done 195 days on the road, so I mean, I am very much looking forward to not getting on the bike tomorrow.
Beaumont started his journey back in August 2007 and passed through twenty countries as he circled the globe.
He cycled 18,400 miles (29,611 kilometres) on a path that took him across Europe, Asia and the United States.
I had to pass through two points on the opposite sides of the world which were Madrid and Wellington in New Zealand. And apart from that I could really set my own route and it was up to me to find the fastest route around the world. And that is not easy trying to get through the Middle East and Asia and Southeast Asia and these places, he told the press in Paris.
Beaumont said the challenge wasn't easy, but it paid off to know people around the world were following his progress.
When I first set out to do this, years ago, it was a very sort of personal challenge and I never ever expected a finale like this or any of the press or other benefits, he said.
Amarilis Espinoza, a spokeswoman for Guinness World Records, said the group was aware of Beaumont's attempt and was awaiting documentation from him.
