Civil disobedience at governor's mansion for Kenneth Foster
About 200 members of Kenneth Foster's family, friends, and supporters rallied today in Austin to demand that Governor Rick Perry hear the Foster family's pleas for clemency.
In a dramatic turn, six activists sat down to block the gates of the Governor's mansion in a physical demonstration of solidarity with Foster's non-cooperation with the criminal justice system. In June 2000, a dozen activists were arrested during a similar protest of the execution of Gary Graham (a.k.a. Shaka Sankofa).
In the face of the State's unwillingness to engage the Foster family and other supporters, the crowd spread out across the street, blocking traffic for forty-five minutes.

Abbott lauds Texas congressional delegation for landing Harvey funding
WASHINGTON —
Gov. Greg Abbott capped off his five-day trip to the nation’s capital Tuesday by meeting with the Texas congressional delegation, thanking them for securing further disaster relief funding that the state can use to recover from Hurricane Harvey — though he cautioned that Texas will need more federal assistance.
Congress earlier this month approved $89.3 billion in relief for Texas and other states affected by natural disasters. “It provides resources we need to begin the projects that are so desperately needed,” Abbott told reporters after meeting with many of Texas’ 36 U.S. House members.
Late last year, Abbott rebuked the Texas members of Congress for not doing enough to fund the amounts the state needed to recover from Harvey, a Category 4 hurricane that struck the state six months ago.

There were no hard feelings this time, as Abbott said that he had met privately with President Donald Trump and Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney, and other members of the Cabinet, to press for more assistance for Texas.
“Right now my request to the Texas delegation is to collaborate with me and my office and the three agencies — FEMA, HUD, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers — to make sure this process continues at a very fast pace,” said Abbott.
U.S. Rep. Bruce Babin, R-Woodville, said, “This is a $150 billion disaster. We’ve got a ways to go.”
U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, said, “This was very bipartisan. Everybody feels good that it turned out well.”
As for the president, Abbott said he appealed to Trump’s “self-described vision of being the builder president,” in rebuilding Texas in the aftermath of the storm.
Abbott was in the nation’s capital during the mid-winter meeting of the National Governors Association. Texas is not a member of the association — a policy that goes back to then-Gov. Rick Perry who said the dues were too high — but Abbott attends events held by the Republican Governors Association.
But maybe there’s a thaw: Abbott told the American-Statesman after a charm offensive by National Governors Association Chairman Brian Sandoval, Republican governor of Nevada, that he was willing to take another look.
“Sure, we’ll consider it. They charge Texas a disproportionate cost. Gov. Perry left the membership of the NGA for cost purposes. If the cost was more fair and reasonable, that is something we might consider.”
According to the association, Texas’ dues, based on population, would be $176,200 a year and executive director and CEO Scott Pattison is so eager to have Texas re-join that he said he would waive the fees for the first year. “We’d love to have his participation,” Pattison said.
As long as Texas does not belong, the association cannot hold committee or staff meetings in the Lone Star State.
“We want to go to Austin; we want to go to Dallas; we want to go to San Antonio,” Pattison said.

Veteran of the Month Ceremony Hosted by Governor Brian Sandoval
My Angel Cafe captured Nevada's Honorable Governor Brian Sandoval on May 28, 2015 in the Front lobby of the Grant Sawyer Building, during the Veteran of the Month for June, 2015 Ceremony. We were there to see the Honorable Purple Heart Vietnam Veteran, Chuck N. Baker honored!
Mr. Baker is truly an outstanding Veteran. He is a multi-talented communicator; a seasoned and truly talented Journalist, a book author and; most recently, a film maker who has produced a compelling documentary about our beloved VETERANS who return home after active duty and, like Chuck, forge sucessful lives becoming a asset and a blessing to these Great United States!
On one of his last shows, he spoke about the on-line Veterans Advocacy Course he was taking to enhance the mega contributions he already makes to his beloved peers! Mr. Chuck N. Baker is the founder and former owner of Nevada's popular military veterans publication, The Veterans Reporter News.
This multi-talented Veteran can be found at most Veteran's Events in our Valley. He has served as a news reporter and anchor on Las Vegas ONE all-new television. Mr. Baker recently ended the hosting of his Veterans Reporter News Show on KLAV-AM because he is so much in demand that he will be broadcast from six Lotus Broadcasting Stations as of this June 2015. Turn your radios on at Seven A.M. on Sundays, just move the dial and you should find your favorite Raido Show Host!
Chuck N. Baker has produced many, many great--all of them great radio shows. My Angel Cafe was indeed honored to be a guest of his show on February 19th, 2015.. In the hour with Chuck N. Baker, he took time to give Glory to God as he shared with his listeners in six states, thousands of Veterans, the peace-poem, I Saw His Face. Letters from Governors and Mayors about this globally read verse can be found on the internet. The poem has been carried in three parades, one of them being the Veteran's Parade.
Mr. Baker served in the U.S. Army. He was an editor and a writer fo the post New Paper at Fort Riley, Kansas. He later served with the 1st Infantry Division where he received the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Purple Heart, as well as a promotion to the rank of Specialist Four. It is likely that I may have had the opportunity to enjoy Chuck's work at Fort Riley, Kansas becaused I worked as a Federal Secretary on the base during the ealy 70's. It's wonderful to know that he has been providing his great writing and speaking gifts to many people in many different places! Congratulations to Chuck N. Baker.
There is a beautiful moment in the video when Both Chuck's beatutiful wife, Linda and their Son, Nicholas join him in front of the gathered audience. My Angel Cafe had the honor of speaking to Chuck's Son, who is a U.S. Marine! We will soon bring that too you!!!
Following the Ceremony, we gifted Mr. Baker with a large copy of I Saw His Face.
This poem was gifted on March 27th, 2015 to Chief of Staff, Mary Considine, Fisher House Foundation for the Fisher House!
