Best Motorcycle Ride Texas Davis Mountains Scenic Motorcycle Roads Video
Best motorcycle ride through the Davis Mountains near Fort Davis Texas. Highway 17 scenic route. Davis Mountains State Park. The best riding in this area is about 20 miles North out of Fort Hood and then turn around and enjoy the view the other direction back to Hwy 118 Northwest. Hwy 118 is best about fifteen miles out. It's a horseshoe shaped ride instead of a loop but the flat plains past the Davis Mountains can get a little boring ;) Don't miss the Rattlesnake and Reptile Museum in Fort Davis for a quick thrill.

The cottonmouth, also know as water moccasin, is an opportunistic feeder. Its diet includes mammals, birds, amphibians, fish, snakes, small turtles and small alligators. These snake do not hesitate to prey on venomous like rattlesnakes or copperheads. Cannibalism is a frequent occurrence between this species as well as the feeding on carrion. But in general its diet consists of fish and frogs. Fish are captured by cornering them in shallow water, usually against the bank or under logs. They take advantage when bodies of water begin to dry up in the summer or early fall and gorge themselves on the resulting high concentrations of fish and tadpoles.
Frogs and small birds are seized and held until movement stopped. Larger prey will be approached in a more cautious manner; a rapid strike will be executed after which the snake withdraws. Young individuals have yellowish or greenish tail tips and engage in caudal luring. The tail tip is wriggled to lure prey, such as frogs and lizards, within striking distance. These video was filmed by Heiko Kiera aka Ojatro in Florida 2012.

Living with Fire: Wildlife & Wildfires
Southern California’s fire ecology is unlike that of anywhere else in the United States. Fire control strategies developed for mountain forests don’t have the same results here. So can science help uncover new answers to help Southern California communities manage and live with wildfires? This 10 minute film showcases ongoing USGS research supporting agencies on the frontlines of fire management.
Like earthquakes, southern California wildfires can’t be prevented -- but the risks they pose to our communities and landscapes can be managed. USGS scientists hope to increase our understanding of wildfire factors. The resulting research can assist managers and planners in finding solutions to reduce the risk of home and habitat loss -- and help southern California truly learn to live with fire.
