Hollyhock's 19-Foot Dandelion and the Artist Behind It All
Newland’s Hollyhock community is now home to another flower: Auri Agoseris, “the illuminated one,” a 19-foot tall dandelion. This kinetic metal sculpture was commissioned as custom artwork for the community by artist Mark Baltes. The whimsical metal sculpture is designed to delight adults and children alike with its representation of a dandelion blown and scattering its plumes and seeds into the wind. Baltes fabricated the sculpture with premium materials, primarily stainless steel and aluminum, and designed it to be durable, beautiful and engaging. Auri Agoseris was installed on Friday, Feb. 10 using a lift to support the sculpture’s weight and height. It is a companion piece to Aero Agoseris, which towers 15 feet above the Jim Hall Foothills Learning Center in Boise, Idaho.
Mark Baltes is a professional artist and designer whose studio, Landmark Impressions, specializes in porcelain enamel artwork, public art and kinetic sculptures. A long-time resident of Boise and educated at Boise State University, he has more than 39 years of experience working in the arts field. His public art often demonstrates his love of community, as seen in “Penny Postcard – A Hometown Greeting” and the Oregon Trail Kiosks.
Auri Agoseris represents Hollyhock’s commitment to “Artful Living” and its celebration of beauty through art in its parks and community programming.

Dallas, a modern metropolis in north Texas, is a commercial and cultural hub of the region. Downtown’s Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza commemorates the site of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963. In the Arts District, the Dallas Museum of Art and the Crow Collection of Asian Art cover thousands of years of art. The sleek Nasher Sculpture Center showcases contemporary sculpture.
Dallas is the largest and most populated city in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, which is also referred to as DFW, North Texas, or The Metroplex. Located in the north central portion of the state, The Metroplex is the most populated area in Texas. The City of Dallas by itself is the third most populated in the state behind Houston and San Antonio. DFW is home to the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League, and you'll regularly be reminded of The Metroplex's mass enthusiasm for the team. With more shopping centers per capita than any other city in the US, Dallas is also known as a shopper's paradise.
Dallas is Texas' most mythical city, with a past and present rich in the stuff that American legends are made of. The 'Big D' is famous for its contributions to popular culture – notably the Cowboys and their cheerleaders, and Dallas, the TV series that once was a worldwide symbol of the USA. An upscale ethos makes for a vaunted dining and shopping scene, where the more conspicuous your consumption, the better.

Established in 1967, named the Museum of Biblical Art in 1999, the MBA, is an art museum in Dallas, Texas that is unlike any museum in the world. It has a simple mission: To display art with a Biblical theme. Nothing of its size exists in the United States, making it a treasure trove for art enthusiasts. Diverse types of art are exhibited including bronze sculpture installations, drawings, fine prints, and oil paintings. Specialized galleries have been created for Biblical Archaeology, Jewish Art, Religious Architecture, Israeli Art, African American Art and Hispanic Art.
The Museum is a cultural crossroads, utilizing art for tolerance and understanding reflected in the various archaeological exhibits and decorative art from Israel and the Holy Land. The MBA's vision encompasses the classical arts with a call to beauty which emphasizes the Biblical figurative art illustrating the narratives of the Bible and a call to the study of classical Greco-Roman art, archaeology and architecture.

Residential development challenges the concept of American suburban living

What we wanted to do is make sure it had an eclectic look that doesn't look like that sameness as you're walking on the street again encouraging people to get outside. So whether it's a Victorian romantic like this first one here, a colonial revival in our second series or the Mediterranean, you can see there is a great look they all blend together, but they are all distinctly unique.

We bought into the vision of what it was going to be and just fell in love from the start.

LEAD IN
A new residential development in Texas challenges the concept of American suburban living.
The houses in Newman village all have unique styles and are built around a sculpture park.
STORYLINE
When talking about American suburbs, most people will think of neat streets, white picket fences and identical houses.
But Mike Carter has had a different vision.
The sales manager came up with a more unconventional concept for Newman village, in the Dallas suburb of Frisco.
Like in this house, which, according to Mike, surprises most people: As you open up you think you're going inside but you walk into a grand courtyard outdoor living area.
Newman village is based on promoting community life by creating social spaces.
The entire neighbourhood is build around a park filled with sculptures and art.
Mike Carter explains that they looked at great communities around the country, we looked at what's happening in Europe and even how they do business in Europe, and it's not meet at the Starbucks, it's meet at a certain fountain or a certain sculpture and talking.

Dallas is home to one of the countries most impressive skylines. And where better to see it than from... ...Reunion tower. The tower is home to the GeO-deck, where you can get a full 360 degree view of the entire city of Dallas. There are dozens of massive interactive touch screens that help you navigate and identify the many notable buildings and public spaces of the city. If you aren't scared of heights, you can peer out for miles on the outer rim of the GeO-deck. The Perot Museum of Nature and Science houses a wide range of awe inspiring displays to brain teasing interactive exhibits. Whether it's dinosaurs, the cosmos, robots, or the physics of sports, there is something for everyone to play and learn about. With exception to special temporary exhibits, the Dallas Museum of Art is free of charge for visitors to appreciate. History buffs will love The 6th Floor Museum as it commemorates the assassination of President John F Kennedy from the actual building where the shooting took place. With 66 acres of beautifully landscaped flowerbeds, manicured lawns, and elegant water features the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden is a favorite for a pleasant outdoor stroll or catching that perfect photo. The Dallas World Aquarium is more than just fish. Here you can see sloths, monkeys, exotic birds, and even a manatee! The exhibits are laid out in a very natural format which makes you feel like you are in the jungle with the animals. The variety of sea creatures still incredible and few places make you feel as close to nature as you do here. Haven't have enough animals?
