JCP 2014 Group 124, Husky Romi Wolf Sanctuary Project
Our project took place in Reitz in the Free State of South Africa. The biggest thing that we learnt from this project is how effective a good team is regardless of the work and never to give up on yourself and most importantly each other. This. This was a project of the Community-Based Project of the Faculty Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology of the University of Pretoria. For more information:

Meet the Coywolf: A New Hybrid Carnivore Roams the City | MetroFocus
Chances are you've never seen a wolf-coyote hybrid called the coywolf but it has arrived in New York. Meet the Coywolf, the latest documentary from PBS' Nature series, premiering on January 22 at 8pm on PBS stations nationwide, introduces us to the elusive canines. They originated in eastern Canada and are now emerging in New York City and on Long Island. Two wildlife biologists featured in the program, Mark Weckel of the American Museum of Natural History and Christopher Nagy of Mianus River Gorge Preserve, join Pi Roman to talk about tracking the hybrid species as part of their Gotham Coyote Project.

MIDNIGHTSKYWOLF - Wolf Mountain Sanctuary 2017
MIDNIGHTSKYWOLF - Wolf Mountain Sanctuary 2017
The wolf is one the most (wrongly) maligned and hated creatures since the beginning of time.
People envision the wolf as a blood thirsty vicious killer that wipes out herds of cattle and consumes small children, when, in actuality, these beliefs couldn't be further from the truth.
Not only do wolves fit NONE of the popular stereotypes, their gentle temperament and sophisticated social structuring merit our admiration. A wolf will only resort to preying on domestic stock when its natural prey (moose, caribou, and deer) have been eliminated from their natural range.
Wolves serve a great ecological role by preying mostly on the weak and/or diseased animals in a herd, leaving the younger, healthier animals to become breeding stock, which ultimately produces much stronger herds.
WHY SAVE THE WOLF?
Look at them: they are so noble, so beautiful. The wolf, as well as other endangered species, are ecological indicators. It is by studying these species and learning how to preserve them that we learn the main factors affecting our environment.
Perhaps in so doing, we will learn undiscovered ways to benefit mankind!
Unfortunately, there are those who deny the wolf's place in the ecosystem. Wolves are gunned down from airplanes and snowmobiles (which some consider sport). Sometimes the fur is taken; however, more often than not, the animal is simply left to decay.
The wolf is poisoned en masse, trapped by leg-hold traps, used as adornments for the idle rich.
Today, the wolf's range is limited to Alaska, Canada, the upper Midwest, and in Yellowstone National Park. Some of the YNP wolves have traveled into adjoining states, which allow hunters to kill wolves on sight and for little to no reason. In the 1930's, there were approximately 50,000 wolves roaming the North American continent. By the 1940's, that number had been decreased to 1,000. Today, mostly because of conservation efforts, there are approximately 3,000 wild wolves on the entire continent. They have made a small comeback, but because of the recent delisted from the Endangered Species Act, wolves are once again under attack.
Wolf lovers need to band together and do all we can to help them. TIME IS RUNNING OUT!
Only you can save the wolf from extinction. Proper management procedures must be put into action.
Won't you join us in the wolf's campaign?
Please help the wolves any way you can: sign all petitions you can to stop the wholesale slaughter of wolves and donate to organizations focused on protecting the wolf!
Thank you!
People Who Accidentally Adopted Monsters
Subscribe for weekly wacky videos and learn interesting facts about the world with awesome top 10 lists and other amazing videos.
8. A French Ferret
A retired man in Argentina felt he needed some pets for companionship. He was able to contact a seller who offered 2 toy poodles for just $150 in total. That’s a steal considering most toy poodles cost closer to $1,000. He took his new pet dogs home but then started to notice something funny about them. Eventually, he found out that his pets were not poodles nor were they dogs. They were ferrets! Pet sellers that give out ferrets as dogs are more commonplace than you think. Ferrets marketed as dogs are typically administered steroids at birth so that they grow larger. They’re then given a little hairdo to make them look more like poodles or Chihuahuas.
7. The Feisty Kinkajou
Kinkajous are endemic to rainforests so unless you know you can replicate that environment in your home, it’s best not to own a kinkajou. If you have money like Paris Hilton does, then maybe you do have the means to take care of a kinkajou. American heiress Paris Hilton famously owned a chihuahua named Tinkerbell, but she also reportedly owns a kinkajou. Kinkajous are sometimes called honey bears, but that name doesn't mean they're sweet. Kinkajous are prone to biting and scratching their owners. A bite from a kinkajou could result in a Kingella potus bacterial infection, causing symptoms like high fevers, stomach pains, and more. These small rainforest mammals are related to animals like raccoons and ring-tailed lemurs. By this point, you know these kinds of animals don’t make the greatest human companions.
6. The Oldest Monsters
When you first purchase a baby turtle or tortoise, they are quite small. They’re light enough to lift with one hand and small enough to fit in a palm, too. Turtles and tortoises have incredibly long lifespans, living up to 130 years at the most. That means when you adopt one of these shelled-reptiles as a pet, you have a companion for life. Leonardo DiCaprio owns one, too. He bought an African spurred tortoise in 2010. At the time of his purchase, the tortoise only weighed 38 pounds or 17.2 kilograms, which means it’s probably young since adult tortoises of this type can weigh up to 200 pounds or 90 kilograms.
5. Rock N’ Roll Wallaby
It seems rockstars love their strange, exotic pets. Did you know that Elvis was once gifted a wallaby as a pet? He wasn’t fond of cats, though he had a penchant for more unusual pets like monkeys, peacocks, and pigs, so it was only natural that he’d own a wallaby. All these animals lived at his Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee. Eventually, Elvis donated the wallaby to the Memphis Zoo. Wallabies are difficult to take care of, and giving it to the zoo was the right move on Elvis’s part. Since they are not domesticated, wallabies cannot be housetrained. They are nocturnal, so living with a wallaby may keep you up all night.
4. The Big Cats
According to Live Science, there are more tigers owns as pets then there are in the wild. You would think it’s illegal in most places to own tigers, but in a big place like Texas, there are no laws that state you can’t have an exotic pet. About 7,000 tigers live as pets in the United States and 2,000 of those tigers live in Texas. Three of those Texan tigers belong to Bill Rathburn. Rathburn says his wife went out and bought 3 tiger cubs without him knowing. The couple kept the tigers and now they’re fully grown 600-pound or 272.15-kilogram beasts.
3. The Next Kardashian
The Kardashian-Jenner clan is enormous. Kris Jenner is the mother of 6 children, not counting her former step-kids and her grandkids. In 2009, she had a temporary family member named Suzy. Suzy...was a chimp. Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney were tired of their mother telling them she wanted grandchildren. To play a prank on their mom-ager (pronounced like manager), the sisters purchased a female chimp and gave it to their mother to take care of. If you watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians, you probably remember this episode.
2. The Incredible Pitbull
Pit Bulls don’t have the best reputation. Many think they’re violent, aggressive dogs, but a dog’s behavior depends on the owners. Dogs have varying personalities and levels of intelligence. If you have a pit bull, it’s going to be aggressive if you train it to be aggressive. Those ignorant of how friendly and smart pit bulls can be will likely shrink in fear if they ever encounter a pitbull like Hulk. Owned by trainer Marlon Grannon of Dark Dynasty K9, Hulk may be massive, but he’s proved to behave amiably. This giant dog weighs 175 pounds or 79 kilograms. When he was a newborn, he wasn’t any bigger than this pit bull puppy!

Police Dog Attacks Woman Outside Her Home
An innocent woman was attacked by a police dog outside her own home. Desiree Collins was taking out the trash when the leashed K-9 latched onto her arm while on the hunt for a suspect. So what did Collins do to provoke Gabe the German shepherd? Nothing, according to police. Collins, 52, has filed a lawsuit against the officer, claiming the dog's leash was too long. The department has since apologized and the officer in charge of Gabe was suspended for one day.

Dog Calmly Playing With Kids After Cop Shoots Himself Trying To Kill it
A California deputy accidentally shot himself while trying to kill a dog that he said was threatening his life on Wednesday, but video captured by a local television station later showed the animal much smaller than reported and peacefully playing with children.
According to a Riverside County sheriff's spokesperson, the deputy was serving an eviction notice at around 2 p.m. on Wednesday when a large dog tried to attack him, KCAL reported.
A dog came at the deputy in an aggressive manner, Deputy Armando Munoz said, according to The Press-Enterprise. The deputy, (attempting to defend himself) pulled his service weapon, shot one round, and injured himself in the leg.
He's OK. He has non life-threatening injuries.
Munoz said that the dog's aggressive behavior ended when it was startled by the gunfire.
When KNBC film crews arrived on the scene later on Wednesday, they found a medium-sized pit bull — named Precious — confined to a pen, and calmly playing with several children. The dog's owner admitted that it had been barking when the officer arrived.
Animal Services did not take the dog into custody because there was no evidence it or the owner had done anything wrong.
Watch the video from KNBC, broadcast April 16, 2014.
